[Leather Poisoning]

Well guys I think that was the game we'd been waiting for.

We came out breathing fire.
We were challenged
We put the foot down again.
We won by (roughly) 10 goals.

Some real positives:
BUDDY! Now I know he still missed a few shots, but what gave me confidence was that he only SHANKED one. He hit the rest very sweetly, but missed by a small margin. He's got the swagger back!

Roughy and Buddy combo.
Never seen these two combine so often - was brilliant to see.

Mitchell, Lewis and Hodge
Been a while since we've had these three guys with 30+ touches. Sewell and Bateman are starting to hit form. (Note, bateman only needs 20 touches to influence a game because he kicks 3 times as often as he handballs.)

Browny is proving to be a VERY influential player.
Where ever this guy is, the opposition panics. It's difficult to swing momentum back your way, putting Brown in the backline for 5 minutes did this and all of a sudden WHACK.

Ellis continues to get better.
But geeezus man put on some weight! Another 28 touches. We gotta give this guy license to kick it more. Has found out how to create space for himself or the bloke he's passing to in EVERY contest. Huge asset.

Clarko swinging the changes
Blokes were all over the place tonight. He really mixed it up and showed that he's not just a stubborn Neil Craig type. Really got Buddy into the game well and early.

Croady and Gilham
Both played ripping games. Gilham got a bit cocky and even got a goal (anyone notice his one-on-one marking? Not bad!) Croad smashed cloke again. Hopefully the knee isn't too serious.

Dew and Rioli:
Dew is clearly our best crumber. Rioli our best small forward. Dew fed out some ripping handballs that set up goals tonight. Is this where he is most valuable?

Only negative:
Crawf and Willo just couldn't get into.


That was a real joy to watch.

Agree with you totally with everything else but Willo didn't get into it because our midfield was too busy kicking to Buddy. Quite a few times he would lead and present himself whilst being ignored in favour of Buddy.

Might want to add Stokes to that list too, the kid just didn't impress me at all tonight.

Don't worry about Dew's goal ... how 'bout his handball. And not the 20m one to Sewell running through CHF (even though it was poetic), the golden moment was the handball over the top away from the stoppage in the pocket to hit the runner breaking the 50 without breaking stride.

Almost as good as that handball of Hodge's. Amazing goal assist. No wonder the chicks love him. I love him too.

Afterthought ...

Before we get carried away with positives, Collingwood are deadset shite. Insipid performance from them last night too, but the list is ordinary.

To put their "cattle" issues into perspective:

Any one of Hodge, Franklin, Mitchell, Sewell, Roughead, Bateman, Croad, and Crawford (fit) would be the best player in their team.

Any one of Hodge, Mitchell, Sewell, Lewis, Bateman & Crawford would be their best midfielder.

At least half of their side last night would not get a gig in our best 22.

while I agree on your above points, The genuine excitement exhibited after his goal in the first few minutes, setup up the scence for the whole night.

Well done, he will be a key cog for our september push if he can remain fit.

Yeah, popular moment wasn't it. Never seen Willo celebrate a goal quite that hard before. Dewie's obviously a very popular man amonst the players.

It was great that he got the first goal. I had some Collingwood supporting mates giving me shit Friday arvo about how Dew's inclusion was about as telling as Lonie's. Can't wait 'til Monday when those emails head straight back where they came from ... with interest.

The footskills were a massive improvement. Impressed with the games of Ladson and Lewis last night. Also Tom Murphy did a couple of good things.

Thought we had the run of the umps too.

i think we really needed Dew and Crawf on the park ,you cant beat experience, even though Crawf didnt get a lot of it he was in the right spots and also directed blokes to the right spots. get a few games in a row for Dew and he will be a game breaker come finals.

tinnman, I thought Crawf was pretty poor last night. Can't think of too many that had poorer games. Will be better for the run, just hope this isn't the end of ti for him.

Good summary. I thought the reason willo didn't get into the game was because we were kicking long to him in a 1 on 1 contest against Harry O (who seemed a little stronger than Willo) rather than hitting Willo on the lead where he is best suited.

Then again I guess the focus was more on hitting buddy or roughy.

Always tough to see your team lose - good onya for appreciating Buddy's display all the same.

The pies definitely had a go in the middle two quarters. We got the jump early and finished well. A few seriously questionable coaching tactics from Malthouse did you guys no favours.
