Well at least it's not Xavier Campbell.

Thank god. I know someone who interviewed with him for a role in finance at Essendon who said he epitomised the Essendon drink your own bath water spirit. Very happy to have Ned - he seems pretty switched on and his relationship with Wright is a bonus. Good times at Collingwood. This is an exciting period.

  • A 50m penalty will no longer be paid if a player fakes a handball while behind the mark, drawing their opponent off their position.
  • Additionally, players have to make an immediate decision regarding the 5m protected area. When a player is penalised for giving away a free kick or loses a marking contest, they must stand the mark or immediately leave the protected area.
In the video below, Collingwood star Darcy Moore is not in the contest but opts to enter the protected area. He must stand the mark. The example below would now result in a 50m penalty as he has left the area after initially deciding to enter.

  • The third change will see players no longer given an alert by umpires at the 15-second mark of their set shot, instead receiving just a warning at 25 seconds. Players are allowed 30 seconds to start their set-shot approach.

Its common sense. Faking a handball should have always been play on.

So what happens if a player is going to dish off a handball to a teammate running past but sees he's about to be chased down so decides against it?

Well that isn’t a “fake”, is it?

Yeah. Gaurantee this one will cause some bad calls.

The other should probably be ok. If you choose to stand the mark you have to, can't start and then back out.

So will it be play-on if they fake the hand pass?

Contrary to the way your are all interpreting it, there is no mention in that article that a fake hand pass would lead to a play on call.

It just says no 50m penalty would be paid for the player leaving their mark due to a fake hand pass.

This would suggest the umpire would just call him back to the mark if it were a fake hand pass and there was no play on call.

I hope this is the case. Last year, the umpiring has focused too much on the player with the ball, and not enough on the player challenging them to do so fairly (think Ginnivan). Hopefully they just call them back to the mark and allow the person who won the ball to explore their options.

Couldn’t bring myself to click the video, too much vomitous nonsense about Geelong.
James Sicily expected to be Hawks new captain. Isn't he a complete knob? I would have thought that would be a disadvantageous trait for the role.
