Aside from Collingwood, who is the equivalent of WC in this debate, which MCG tenant is selling out the G? Once the Eagles are even mediocre again that ground will sell out 13 times a year minimum unlike the G which is a sell out maybe 4 to 5 times outside finals. Or are you suggesting the practical exercise would be to reduce the seating capacity of the G in the next redevelopment because the Dees and Hawks like Fremantle can’t sell it out? The economics of an upgraded Optus stack better than a 100,000 capacity MCG.

One of the reasons they went with 60 rather than 80 is they worked out they could make more from being smaller with higher prices.

They could sell it out pretty easily if that was their goal, but profit maximisation is. They charge double the price of the G for General Admission tickets and their ticketing method means that you can't plan early assuming you'll get GA tickets when they do go on sale.

"The economics"? Get your hand off it Sco. How could you possibly be placed to come up with that conclusion? So many variables of which you(and I) would have no idea. Construction costs, the numbers behind opening stadia on lesser capacity days, etc. etc.

FWIW, the sheer number of events held at the MCG over any given year dwarves any kind of comparison with a WA stadium.

WCE were against the 80,000 proposal because they calculated it was better to have a smaller stadium with higher priced entry.

100%. Avoids contact, plays for free and sits on outside. Doesn’t work when his team not winning uncontested footy easily. Soon as clubs tighten up the hawks loose ball he’s going to struggle just like he did Fri

Bruest they seem to prefer him in the sub role and he's at the end of his career.
Moore and Watson I'll give.
Macdonald I'm not sure he is a small forward, but maybe playing there because of the midfield depth.

it’s one of those things where the the sizzle is valued over the sausage, an over the top goal celebration gets your picture in the paper and gives the impression that your game was better than it actually was.
