This is a thread to vent/ramble about past Pies FA/Trade deals so it doesn’t clog up the actual thread, for all you Shoota cost too much people and the folks that still cant get over Ginni leaving nearly 12 months later
I changed the title, that ok?

I will start.

ScUlTz (sic) CoSt Us pIcK 10. (This is at the start or end of every post from certain posters)
WhOEvEvEr We PiCKeD wItH PiCK 10 WoULd hAvE PlAyEd 300 GaMeS aNd BeEn A sTaR. (Firstly it's not pick 10 it will be pick 13 on draft night which is not that far of Schultz's value and pick 13 averages about 100 games which is what hopefully Schultz will give us)
We all agree it was not a great trade but it's not a disaster. Losing pick 2 in 2021 was a disaster but I only complained a bit about that trade before and after it occurred. But the people who make that call were gone half way through that year anyway. I'm happy to argue that with the Schultz nuffies.

Not circular enough! Lemme try;

“I can’t believe we gave up pick 10 for a total spud like Schultz. We’re lucky it wasn’t an earlier pick, if we hadn’t traded for that small pressure forward from Fremantle… I forget his name but without him we would have finished even lower and had a top 5 pick. So getting him across was stupid. With a top 5 pick imagine who we could have gotten… maybe a small forward like Leigh Matthews but better.”

At the end of 2014 when we traded Dayne Beams to the Lions and in return we got a Brisbane fringe player who will most likely be delisted in 2 years time. Apparently he’s very injury prone as well.

I’m not ready to move on to the Schultz trade yet, I’m still smarting over missing out on plugger. Maybe in another decade.
No way. Plugger would have cost us the early picks that we got Ben Wilson and Chad Liddell with.

Has there ever been a better off season for recruiting for a club in an expansion year?

In: Lockett, Rocca (2), Grant (3), Roos (#1 PSD), Nicks (21), Micky O (40), Luff (74), Leo Barry (zone selection).

This thread won't work imo. No one wants to complain in a complaints thread it defeats the purpose of their complaints which is to annoy and feel self righteous.

Think it has more to do with people not raising points in here that have a reaction and response to it.

Ie someone states how good the draft is.
Next person states pitty we don't have any picks in it.
Next person states how it was a an expensive trade re Schultz.
Next person feels jilted on clubs/his behalf and attempts to rationalise the cost.
Next person comes in with a few facts of why he wasn't a need and we again have caved at trade.
Next person starts an argument of draft being a crap shoot and known players are better way.
Next person argues that it's also a poor way to do it over a long period. That balance is required.

Lot of snark in here for repeated arguing of points but I bet I could go find posts nearly all of you have made and contributed to keeping it going.

Cmon mate they had no idea that they'd be in the Houston race when that trade was made.

They even only entered it from all reports when Carlton shit the bed with its offer.

He is not Elliotts replacement. Imo they have very different games.
Don't need to have the same game to be a replacement. He's a small forward to replace Elliott. Like Elliott he is a strong pressure player, competes in the air and can also play up the ground.

Never said anything about the Houston trade being known in advance. If we had the pick Suns would be requiring it in the Houston trade.

Why is it that Collingwood never seem to win a trade deal? Schultz, Henry, Stephenson, Treloar, Grundy, Beams (trade back) to name a few......

The last was Pick 5, 25 and Crisp for Dayne Beams but that was cancelled out a few years later when Beams returned for 2 first rounders.

Schultz is 1 year into a 5 year contract. Can’t judge anything. Henry was out of contract, Stevo? We won that he’s terrible, Treloar and Grundy were known fire sales.

Crisp goes alright…., d Cameron? Hill?… lippa has been overall a good get for a pick in the 40’s.

l’d argue that stevo, grundy and treloar trades were a net win. It allowed us to add Mitchell, mcstay and hill, with frampton and Oleg cheaply it resulted in a flag.

Forest vs trees, sometimes you gotta give a bit to get a bit. Dodoro is famous for never taking a backward step, Essendon were rarely on the losing side of a trade, subsequently trades that would have improved them dont eventuate and they’ve largely drifted sideways.

So yea you can win every trade and stagnate or you can play the swings and roundabouts game and improve your list and hopefully flag like we did. I know what I prefer.
