Collingwood set new home attendance record

In other words, 30 years ago when we achieved something we had big crowds, since then we've been shit and have had shit crowds accordingly.

I'm not quite sure how many supporters we lost in that period of time to successful clubs such as Essendon, Carlton and Hawthorn, but I'm going to hide behind sleeping giant status.

Is that correct?

We didn't lose supporters. They are out there and they'll be back soon and you will know about it. Anyone who has knowledge and isn't scared of the sleeping giant will admit it

Based on?

Attendances, membership, TV ratings anything?

Richmond were the only Victorian club not to have a Friday Night game this year, they are also just one of 3 clubs that don't have a major sponsor for next season yet

Well done Pies. Great effort. It will be awesome when the Big 4 are in the finals together. The sleeping Giant of Richmond will wake up soon. Here's my prediction for the Big 4 in the next 3 years

2009
Finalists
Collingwood-average crowd of 58,000
Carlton-average crowd of 53,000
Richmond-average crowd of 51,000
Non Finalists
Essendon-average crowd of 47,000

2010
Finalists
Collingwood-average crowd of 59,000
Richmond-average crowd of 55,000
Carlton-average crowd of 54,000
Essendon-average crowd of 50,000

2011
Finalists
Collingwood-average crowd of 60,000
Richmond-average crowd of 58,000
Carlton-average crowd of 56,000
Essendon-average crowd of 52,000

I know what the sleeping giant is capable of. Get ready for it

lol. Richmond out drawing Essendon?

Richmond cant even outdraw Essendon despite finishing higher up on the ladder in 3 of the past 4 seasons.

Collingwood
Essendon
Carlton

With just an ounce of finals succes you'll see. It won't wake up fully until a 2nd consecutive finals series though. Many Tiger fans need alot of convincing this time around :thumbsu:

Did we finish higher that you last year? NO
We finished last. So you should average better crowds than us since 2005. You've only played 500 finals since 1982. The fans owe the club plenty and don't expect failure like Tiger fans. We'll crush your attendance record in 2 years :)

Richmond are suburban clubs with deep roots in its suburban heartland with a passionate following. That's about it.

What arrogance to suggest Richmond will outdraw Carlton and Essendon in 2009 and beyond. Richmond are marginally ahead of Hawthorn and well behind Carlton and Essendon - behind Collingwood as the powers in Victoria.

Another dreadful Richmond home crowd on a sunny saturday afternoon at the MCG - a game in which the finals dream was alive - 24,000. A true reflection of Richmonds inferior supporter base relative to the other big 3. Just like the poor crowd of 42,000 that went to the Dome to see the Tigers play Geelong only a month ago. And don't blame lack of on field success. Yesterday's game Vs Fremantle was a telling crowd on a big day for Richmond - it proved they are a fair way off the pace as genuine superpower status in Victoria - in drawing power at least.

Keep ignoring our lack of success. You really have no clue and you'll see in a couple years what i'm talking about. We'll be up there with the Pies and blow the Bombers records away. You'll be adding 10,000 to our crowds by then and you all secretly know it :thumbsu:

What arrogance to suggest Richmond will outdraw Carlton and Essendon in 2009 and beyond. Whilst fighting for a finals birth to the bitter end, Richmond will finish over 100,000 spectators behind both Carlton and Essendon at the end of 22 rounds. Richmond are marginally ahead of Hawthorn and well behind Carlton and Essendon - behind Collingwood as the powers in Victoria.

Further proof the Richmond Football Club have a long way to go was the fact they are looking at a new major sponsor from 2009. On a day when Essendon signed up Samsung to the largest sponsorship in AFL club history, it was revealled that Richmond were back in the pack among a group of Vic clubs struggling for the remains in the corporate world. Whilst on one hand Essendon confirmed its status as owning the most lucrative AFL guernsay in the AFL - Richmond were still ringing Samsung hoping to join the race... Samsung chose Essendon. Such is strength of Essendons brand over Richmond. One club a national superpower, the other a suburban battler.

Richmond are a suburban club with deep roots in its suburban heartland with a passionate following. They are not a national superpower with the likes of Collingwood, Carlton or Essendon.

Richmond have a very long way to go.. Not just in crowds, but also in the professionalism and proactivity of its administration and commercial operations.

As I say, in 2 years you'll see. I should know what our supporter base is capable of and it will out do the Bomber and Blues. I think it's arrogant of you to completely ignore the difference in success for you club and our club and to laugh that we only got 42,000 against Geelong. You are so far off knowing what little success we've had. You've probably over 60 finals compared to our 6 in that time and you expect a better % of our fans to show up to games than you guys? The Bombers and Blues have the extra blockbuster game (6 compared to 5) than us and that will gaurantee you an extra 50,000 alone. Not to mention the overhyped Anzac clash which will gaurantee 30,000 more than it should because of all the Anzac hype. That's 80,000 that has been given to you by the afl. We are almost level with Bombers now and this is comparing 60+= finals to 6. We'll overtake very soon. Imagine how far ahead we'd be if the Bombers missed the next 10 finals and we made the next 10 finals. Then the shoe would be on the other foot and you'd understand when only 20,000 show up to a game against freo and you wouldn't have a come back

Collingwood 14 MCG games.
Carlton 9 MCG games (after a 15th placed finish the year before).

Collingwood MCG average attendance: 64,996
Carlton MCG average attendance: 63,250

A whopping 1746 difference. Wow.

And thats with the joke of a fixture which sees us playing Hawthorn at the Telstra Dome.

Nice work AFL

Not a fair comparison.

Had Carlton played interstate sides like Fremantle and Port at the MCG like Collingwood have, your average would be alot less than than 63k at the G.

Same thing in reverse. Had we had the opportunity as Collingwood did to play sides like Hawthorn/Geelong at the MCG, our crowd figures would be higher. So I consider they virtually cancel each other out.

Richmond Sleeping Giant! lol! Richmong only got 24,000 against Fremantle. Sorry but Richmond are not even close to the Big 3!

The historical fact is that Richmond have been the top supported home side more than 50% of the time when qualifying for finals and this trend was as true at Punt Rd as at the G.

As recently as 2006 our home average was above essendons. as relatively recently as 1999 ourt home average was above yours. Over the past decade ( 1 finals appearance) we are number 3 in attendances more often than not.

the little Pies, blues bombers cabal likes to think otherwise but a successful Richmond outdraw them all most of the time. This Is historically factual and your dismissal of richmond is purely due to form. when we fire we will see as we have always done in the past.
