Collingwood storm into top spot.

Gee I don't know, maybe not tie a game with a bottom 4 team only 3 weeks ago?
And you wonder why we're sceptical?

Great win today but still a lot of water to go under the bridge with not the best performance in recent finals series.

Stop dropping games they should win against bottom 8 sides?

The Pies will beat a top side, be the talk of the town (and Harry O'Brien will be interviewed/photographed/launch some thing) and then lose to a bottom team the next week. Same same as always...

As Invig said, we haven't lost to a bottom 8 side this season. Geelong just lost to Adelaide last night, and you're using the Melbourne draw from a few weeks ago? We had a draw, we didn't lose. That should be viewed as a positive that a side is capable of salvaging something when being pressured so intensely.

Opposition supporters like you guys are pathetic, and it is pointless to reply because you aren't content. Your arguments are the same as me saying Geelong are shyte because they lost to Hawthorn in '08 and NM are shyte because they didn't win 7 flags in the '90s. Stupid logic.

Pies are on top of the ladder after Round 16, and not for the first time this season, they've beaten one of their fellow flag competitors, defeated every other top 8 challenger, including the Doggies, twice, and are storming into the finals capable of defeating any side in the AFL, when they're playing at their best. Thus, they're flag favourites with the Cats and St Kilda. Its that simple.

...Didn't we lose to brisbane? I thought they were bottom 8.

...All the good teams drop games, Im just happy to be one of the teams with a chance to win this season.

Lost to Brisbane lads.

Although, that said, it doesn't make the comment said before any less cringeworthy.

Exactly, keep it in perspective pies fans........ you will fall very very hard when you have such high expectations and come up short. Not saying you will, but IF you do, your expectations will hurt you ;)

Yep....Better off finishing near last most years like the Dees... That way there is no pressure, no expectation.

If we cross next time a lot of things should be different; Riewoldt will be in better nick, Dal Santo playing, Cloke and Maxwell playing. Fairly significant differences, but balanced differences. I'm sure the energy levels between the sides won't be as wide as they were today.
Good win, hardest draw in the league and we're on top after 16. Not bad.

To be fair, as a nuetral supporter watching the match, the umpiring against saint kilda after half time was atrocious. Case in point Luke Ball in the thrid. Run from the center circle to the edge of the center square and get tackled. Luke just dropped the ball, did not make an attempt to handball/kick and the unpire called play on, which results in a goal. I saw this dropping the ball in at least 5 instances after half time, none of them payed against the collingwood player. Meanwhile, a asaint kilda player takes 2 steps, gets tackled and is pinged. The consistency of the umpires today were atrocious towards St. Kilda.

the umpiring was atrocious today, i agree. how many goals were stkilda gifted (if they could convert from point blank range). stkilda were only in the game because the umpires were egging them on. in an instance within 20 seconds, where a cwood player was pinged, THEN a stkilda played caught doing "the same exact thing" got away with.. then yeh, i agree. it was atrocious.
overall collingwood outplayed stkilda all day, and whatever you say about the umpiring, the result looked preety positive on stkilda. and they played as though it was a 10 + goal belting.. so 48, isnt as bad.

Says the team that got done by Adelaide? You absolute Amoeba...

Get ready for a week of Collingwood related back pages of the paper. Collingwood can do it!
Interviews with anyone past who ever played for Collingwood who can speak english.
Feature on Daisy Thomas and how he is a champion now.
Harry O'Brien will write a column/get photographed somewhere
Mike Sheahan will write an article on how Collingwood are the real deal.
Nick Maxwell will be interviewed (I assume he is still captain no?)

Then they lose next week and back to the beginning. :thumbsu:
This is the shit that makes me worry :(

Also worrying, is when threads like this pop up after we've won a H&A match. Was a great win today but seriously, to all Collingwood supporters out there, let's not start sucking each others dicks just yet. There's still six rounds to go and then that thing called finals, you know that series at the end of the season which we haven't been able to succeed in, the last 8 times we've participated in it.

Keep a ****ing lid on it.

What would be the point of waiting until after the finals to discuss whether we're premiership contenders? Do you believe me starting this thread has changed out chances of success in September? There's nothing wrong with threads like these. That's what this place is for.

There are some Collingwood supporters on here that see the sense in keeping a lid on it, it's a sensible approach.

Being on the top of the ladder in July doesn't guarantee anything more than giving yourself your best opportunity to play in finals....

So incredibly hard to make a GF, let alone win them.

Well done Collingwood. A very very important game for yoyur club today and your boys played marvellous football. I actually couldn't really dfault your performance. Yer, we played badly but only because you MADE us play badly. Great pressure, great attack and great win. Well done.

I'm hoping this game will put some of the animosity between St Kilda and Collingwood fans behind us but I know that's wishful thinking because there will be idiots who still want to bait and fight and crap.

Not me though. No arguments here. Comprehensively outplayed today and you thoroughly deserve to be on top of the ladder.

Well said....nice to get some balanced opinion after such a loss, respect earned in my books:thumbsu:

I'll be honest - I was pretty feral towards your team throughout the game today as I watched it but only because from a St Kilda perspective it was a very frustrating game to watch. So amny silly things, little errors and unaccountable actions that just hurt us today. Collingwood was able to capitalise on these acts too.

But I think i've given credit to every opposition who has beaten us this year. Just because I have an intense hatred for your team doesn't mean I won't do the same... ;)

Whats the matter with people on here. Collingwood fans are allowed to be happy. They beat one of the best teams of the competition comfortably when so many ruled them out, and not only that went into top spot. Yes Flags arent won in July, but then again, being a soulless worrying idiot isn't what makes a supporter either. Its passion and excitement and whatnot, and no one should fault magpie supporters for feeling that.

Exactly, enjoy the win and don't listen to the idiots that try to downplay it or anthing. Fact is, you're top of the ladder, in great form and I have to say right now, must be considered a great contender for the Premiership in 2010.

2 posters above me. +1 reps to you. :)

crowd was unbelievable today i was near the cheer squad everytime st.kilda got a point there was a mass cheer, booes to milne was great and be honest every team does it to him but thats the loudest ive heard it directed at him. when we got goals.. crowd went insane, awesome feeling.
was anyone there when Ball took a mark in the backline in the dying minutes... even that cheer was loud.

One of the best wins i have attended (even tho i only saw the last qtr)

Nothing wrong with gettting excited beating a top 2 team in the last half of the season putting you on top spot people.
