I think a future second for Hill sounds about right. That makes it a likely pick at around 30.

I think he was originally around Pick 24 and hasn't really improved in four years. Is uncontracted, moving for personal reasons, and just a had a pretty big health scare. Around Pick 30 sounds fair, but fair as in the sort of way a really generous club would help out another club, and for some reason that's often us. In my mind i can envisage a situation where Hill nominates a different club in the exact same circumstances and gets traded for barely anything.

Looking forward to watching
Fiorini comes with pick 25?

Well it's their next pick in line currently if pick 7 gets sent off with Bowes.

Doubt the AFL will let their pet project send off this years and next year's first round pick unless they get something outstanding back from Adelaide for Rankine. To be honest Rankine to the Crows is probably the only reason the AFL are "comfortable" with the Suns doing another salary dump trade + pick 7 with Bowes because they're likely to get at least that early first round pick back anyway.

Can't see Fiorini coming with a first round pick given he is by far the better performed of the two players and is on $200k less per year at least if reports are correct.

Every year we discuss players and it's declared that we should get them for a really cheap price. Everyone agrees. Then we whinge about getting bent over when they go for more. I'll be gutted if we pay more than a third rounder, and a late third rounder at that, as that's his agreed price on this board.

Sorry but future second for Hill and future third for Frampton is pathetic if true.

FFS Frampton was about to be delisted.

Agreed, Frampton is in junk pick give-a-bloke-you-don't-want-a-chance-at-another-club territory. Probably gets cut when push comes to shove before final list lodgements.

He's a depth player only at Adelaide (who are shit) and will come across at the same level as a depth player hoping to compete for a spot in our (much stronger) AFL backline for us.

If he was a younger up and coming player being held out of the AFL squad by circumstance / being overstocked at the KPD positions then yeah maybe you'd look at something a bit earlier, but he's not so we shouldn't.

I think some people aren’t counting culture into their calculations when thinking about trade scenarios. 1 + 1 doesn’t necessarily equal 2 this trade period. McRae has earns the right to set a standard after his first year and if players aren’t willing to meet that standards there needs to be consequences otherwise those standards mean nothing. I mean this specifically in regards to Grundy and de Goey (possibly Henry).

Reading the tea leaves, Grundy isn’t willing to sacrifice for the group and so will be made an example of, regardless of the short term pain. De Goey may be in the same basket (but I think he will sign). While I share the frustration about our recent history of list management I think McRae gets a free hit this year and we need to factor this into our calculations when thinking about trade value.

I love big footy trading.

Players wants in: packets of chips and some belly button lint will do, get it done ez

Player wants out: your house, wife, dog, first born and liver or you can gtfa
Pretty accurate, except you forgot to call the bloke who wants out a weak traitorous prick and the bloke who wants in a legend with great character.

I will be expecting JDG, in 72 hours or less now, to announce he is exploring his free agency rights. The club won't budge, and neither will the DeGoey camp.
Now the club needs to workout how it can get the best deal out of this situation.
Never thought we could lose DeGoey, Grundy and Henry in one trade period. After a fantastic season, the trade period could be an absolute disaster.
Keep in mind the last thing De Goey wants to do is leave his mates at the Pies.

I fully expect he will be desperate to find a compromise with the club.

My point was I have not heard that GC were to offer up pick 25 as you posted or any pick for that matter in the Fiorini trade.
The contract for Bowes is significantly more (over a mill more) and as such warrants the dump & the carrot that is pick 7

His club rates him. Last year he wanted out and no trade was done because they wanted a first round pick.

Forget what you think he's worth based on X,y and z. All that matters is what GWS and Collingwood think he's worth. And frankly, he's built for our game style. We're keen and have chased him two years in a row. We'll pay up. I think he'll be worth a decent price

Except that doesn’t work, why would Brisbane accept anything other than what the AFL would give them through compo…5 years at 650k suggests a first rounder to me.

So I’m guessing if Degoey doesn’t sign (but he will and has already agreed to) the we either let McStay go or loose out free agency compo for Degoey. I hope it’s the former in this scenario.
I SERIOUSLY doubt those figures for McStay are accurate.

I agree. He'll sign. But it looks like he's being surprisingly smart, and letting his manager and hopefully a lawyer ensure he doesn't get screwed with a shit contract.

I agree with you SR36.

The AFLPA are not impressed with the clauses the club has added to the player contract either.

Irrespective of De Goey’s prior indiscretions, he is within his rights to keep us honest re behavioural clauses in his contract.

I think we’ll find this trade period, with the amount of players rumoured to be coming in, and their perceived low-ish trade value. We will aim to keep and utilise our first in the draft, only then using the absolute minimum selections required to fulfil the AFL’s National Draft rules.

Hopefully any decent picks we receive for; Grundy, Henry, DG etc. are turned into future picks for 2023. For what it’s worth, I don’t think Henry or DG are leaving.

Further, we can always look at trading back in, if someone we identify as a steal/slider, as long as we have the list flexibility.

I know the 2 paragraphs above seem counter intuitive, but I’d still rather bank picks for next year, rather than hope that someone we possibly rate slides.

With this philosophy, I think we can afford to be a little generous in our offerings from our 2022 and even our 2023 trade stock - as long as we have a definitive plan for our 2023 picks in relation to the machinations of this years trade period.

I think / I hope, GW and Collingwood have a cunning plan, and at the end of the day we surprise a few people in how this year plays out!

Lol you’re such a tool. ROFL and LMFAO

That is the dumbest scenario I’ve ever heard of. Why not just trade for their first pick with our third rounders and a pick from next year. Package the two first rounders and move up the order.
When has what you have described ever happened?! 5 years at 600 is still end of first compo!
You should tell that to Richmond who lost Ellis for 5x $600k to CG and received band 3 compo.

The suggestion of using our first for Mitchell is from twitter, and would involve giving our first for their second. Was presented as a decent deal because we are only giving up a third rounder equivalent. The pitfalls of using draft points as reference outside of matching bids.
Not sure where that is on Twitter (nor do I really care) but that is probably the worst deal I’ve seen for Tom Mitchell

Can't do that either. Once a club matches an FA contract they sign that contract with the player. Nice try though.

Didn’t GWS match on Cameron and end up trading him for three first rounders? Didn’t Adelaide match on Dangerfield years ago with similar outcome?

Correct, although I don't believe the Dangerfield one was ever lodged as a Free Agency request.

Both parties just knew it was happening, why it was happening and knew the compensation they'd receive wasn't going to be nearly enough to cover Dangerfield as a player.

In hindsight though, Adelaide should've made Geelong pay up way more than they did!
