If we end up with two first rounders this year, we should pick two talls unless an absolute standout mid slips to us. Keeler and Lemmey were tipped too 5-10 12 months ago. Unless they appear as Jared Branders, I’d go with both of them.

We have brought in McRae, Reef, Carmichael, Ali pink ski and Daicos who we all expect to be midfielders- possibly even Draper and Harrison. we are looking to bring in Mitchell, Hill and Fiorini.

What a pleasant change if we actually used a first round pick to select someone young, talented, current and sprightly chap, rather than a pre-retiree type who should be coming our way for a discount price. Being in the draft is like sitting round the tree with the family at xmas, and there's a pleasure in knowing that a present commensurate with your standing in the family awaits you, that it wasn't swapped out to allow extra cash for your birthday present. There's nothing duller than a draft night where your team's early rounds are being bid by rival teams.
You mean like last year when we got Daicos or 2020 when we got Henry and McCrae or 2018 when we got Quaynor or 2017 when we got Stephenson or 2014 when we got Degoey and Moore or 2013 when we Sharenberg and Freeman or 2012 when we got Grundy and Kennedy or basically every year except for the one Beams and two Treloar years?

The first round pick for Mitchell would be based on them paying a good portion of his salary, it would be just a starting point, we won't need to use our first pick for Mitchell, we will get him for a future second and hawthorn have interest in Poulter. We will probably have another first for henry and grundy. The draft is a compromised piece of AFL shit and at our first pick it's a lottery. When you consider the players being delisted and what's cuming in so far we are already stronger

Poulter is garbage... WHE is an important link player and Kellys second half of VFL during the year was impressive.

No clue.

Pull your head in, you played footy at the same level he has?

He’s still only 19, showed plenty last year and didn’t have a strong year this year, but he has plenty of talent. Whether that ever comes out enough is the question.

We didn't have a first round pick when we got Daicos!

I think you'll find his papers were stamped early this year when it was obvious that he didn't suit our new style of play. He was unable to be effective in the VFL playing our new game style. He was more suited to the Buckley style which rendered him excess to our needs.

I sort of agree, but people referring to young kids as ‘garbage’ need to take a hike

It does, though. Matching is only concerned with financial terms. It's been asked on Reddit, too.
Who answered it?

It wouldn't surprise me if you were right and they hadn't worded things very well. But let's just say it does go down the free agency route and Collingwood match but insist on clauses that he doesn't want to sign on to- won't he be able to not sign and just nominate for the draft - stipulating a standard contract. Thus rendering our matching pointless. We can't force behavioural clauses on him through the matching process - he either agrees to them, we change them or he plays somewhere else next year.

If we match the offer, we would have to match the complete saints offer. I don't think we can match and then put other demands on the contract. To be honest I have no idea but I could be wrong

Richmond were fuming about that but you are right it was the same contract as what they say McStay is getting. it could of been they didn’t want to give them too much coming off a flag for all we know. it will be a toss up between Band 2 and Band 3 for McStay. Brisbane won’t know so won’t they just acceot McStay is leaving as a FA and hope for the best. Just hope McStay signs as a FA on Friday and then all the talk on us trading for McStay can stop because it just won’t happen. The other thing to consider from our point of view is it is a late 1st rounder for JDG and not like last year which would have been pick 3 so don’t think we will be as desperate to take McStay out of the FA equation.
I agree it could go either way. My point was though that it’s not fait accompli that Brisbane get band 2 for McStay.

Many believe the AFL will scrap the medi-sub rule as it's essentially useless with clubs clearly abusing the rules to get fresh legs on ie: Cam Guthrie coming off with a hamstring injury in the GF? Sure. But there's been plenty of these cases... with cramp being a reason.

It seems as though the AFL next year might go with a 5 man interchange. With many clubs I believe looking to beef up their midfield depth. It's an interesting watch, to see what clubs plan to do with the extra spot.

Yes.
Cameron could have elected to stay with GWS and Dangerfield with Adelaide however both wanted to leave.
In De Goey’s case, he doesn’t want to leave and would stay.
Cameron constantly maintained that his preference was to stay at GWS but they lowballed him. Once he made the decision to accept Geelong’s offer, he kept his word to them, because that’s what people do. Once a player commits to a move, they don’t pull out of that commitment even with a matched offer, it just doesn’t happen.

There was some murmurs about us being interested in Aarts. Would be a nothing pick, but probably worthwhile.

I reckon McRae and Leppitsch would recognise the importance of building decent depth. Even if they are only break in case of emergency players.

I wouldn’t mind going for Sydney Stack for the same reason.

Our depth is still pretty bad at the moment beyond the top 24 or so players.

Correct, although I don't believe the Dangerfield one was ever lodged as a Free Agency request.

Both parties just knew it was happening, why it was happening and knew the compensation they'd receive wasn't going to be nearly enough to cover Dangerfield as a player.

In hindsight though, Adelaide should've made Geelong pay up way more than they did!
But I think everyone is missing the point.. Cameron & Danger WANTED to change clubs, so even if the offers were matched, they still wanted to go, so a trade was organised.
DeGoey DOESN’T want to go, so if the offer from another club (without behaviour clauses) is matched by the Pies, there is no trade.. DeGoey signs the contract and stays. If not, he leaves as a free agent, and we get whatever the AFL give us as compo..
