I met Mackie once...came across as full of himself.

Always came across that way on field too.

Maybe their personnel changes have been overlooked a bit… Stephen Wells was always highly respected and trusted at the trade table. This is Mackies first time in the drivers seat. So far so bad.

Think it’s very predictable what their plan will be once they realise they will not be able to have 18 as well as 7.
Swap 18 for a mid to late 20s pick to get another 2nd rounder in 2023. Then swap future 1st for Bruhn.
If they can get a club to do this trade they will then try and pass on the late 20s pick to us. We say no then they say that pick and a pick about 40. Hope we still say no way.

We are likely to only go in with two or three live picks. Anything past the 27 we will likely get for Grundy will be worthless to us. So…. Nah….

If you are trading a player voluntarily after 2 years you have to worry about what the recruitment team is doing.
Not when it's pretty much the first time it's happened.

A player wants to leave. Doesn't have to be a drama or anyone's fault. Get fair value and it's really no big deal.

The last time a good young player left (Beams) we ended up way in front.

I’m not sure I’ve defended Henry once throughout the entire ordeal. But I think he needs some slack here mainly due to the fact this is his managers doing. Clearly the advice should have been “the move to Geelong is not on this year, stay at Collingwood”

Look at the signs
Mackie said value will be hard to reach
Mackie said the Henry camp pursued them
Wright said we desperately want to keep
We offered him one year deal
Every lever has been pulled “opportunity” “‘money” “the right environment” that bullshit article about how fun it is seeing Nick and Josh play together

But at the end of the day Geelong weren’t super interested, it’s shown by an offer of pick 38 which everyone knows isn’t enough, it’s not possible to get Bruhn, Henry and keep 7 and 18 this year yet the manager has gone ahead and put it on the public record that he wants to leave anyway.

Amateur at its finest, pick 38 does not move to 18 within a week, this won’t happen

Or could be that or it could be he's doing his best to deliver on instructions from Henry to get him home. That's what it feels like to me but who knows.

The Geelong stuff is interesting and clearly a result of GC wanting their 2023 2nd which prohibits them moving their 2023 1st. As it stands I can’t see how they get all three done without giving up 7 either to us in the Henry deal or to GWS involving Bruhn. I feel like we should be proactive with Henry to get first dibs on 7, but Geelong don’t even have it yet… Layers on layers!

I'd accept pick 7 and move on but Geelong won't offer it. If they offer pick 18 I wouldn't accept it.

If Henry stays he’ll request a trade in 12 months time. I hope we get a deal done as I couldn’t handle him playing for us next year. Pick 18 seems fair.

I know this is the majority view and not saying it’s right or wrong, but Papley was desperate to get to Carlton a few years ago & Swans stood their ground & he hasn’t looked back. It can turn. But I understand where everyone’s heads are at.

I know this is the majority view and not saying it's right or wrong, but Papley can eat shit for the rest of his days.

Players like Poulter make a lot more sense to the Suns than Long, etc. Long is a known quantity, probably fully developed, C grader. At least Poulter MIGHT (albeit probably not) develop into a good winger.
They needed some defence ready made player given Weller will be out for most of the year.
They would like his physicality too.

Jolly was the first one that came to mind for me but I didn’t mention him as the argument will be he wasn’t 30 , not that should make any difference. If the concern is the list is getting too old then put Mitchell on and take Madge off as he is slightly older than Mitchell.

Tom Hickey is at his 4th club and elevated his team into a GF. Turned 30 before the 2021 season, his 1st at the swans.

Stood out a bit.
