It was the stupidest trade. Why so many picks for pick 25? Esp the future 2nd.
It’s one of the most bizarre trades I can remember. It feels like they tried to pull a Melbourne with a close enough is good enough mentality, but they were 5 picks short of that…

Adding the 2nd rounder felt a bit like insurance against us asking for the future 1st because it stops them trading it under the rules. There's a lesson there for them if the Ollie deal falls over which is looking likely.

There are a couple of trades at other clubs I wish we'd had some interest in. Logue for a 2nd rounder and Setterfield for a 4th round pick swap both look value and fitted our needs.

Hard pass on Logue. Murphy is the exact same player on significantly less money. Setterfield might offer some value for Essendon.

AmericanMustard I suspect that’s a troll account so I wouldn’t bother, but he’s not going the draft. You can always tell by the managers and journos. Pickers came out strongly on the weekend over Dunkley, but nothing’s been said about Henry in association with it because they all know there’s no chance he gets to Geelong via the draft.

Maybe they were just trying to have only pick 25 left for a trade to force Collingwood into accepting it.
So GW should just insist that they need to give us a 1st round pick or no deal.

Been scratching my head over this since the mega trade dropped yesterday.

JHF pick 1, 17 games in 2022, dropped twice
Henry pick 17, 15 games in 2022, dropped twice.

Both players shown glimpses of star potential but nothing to suggest either will fully reach it, both been dropped multiple times to work on flaws in their game. However...

JHFs value has increased by an entire extra first round pick essentially, and according many, Henry's value has decreased by 11 draft positions.

I just cannot, for the life of me justify that big a gap in value off 2 games difference in exposed form?

Now look at the Press - Pies to keep Grundy if the Dees don't up the offer - GW has played them perfectly. :)
Dees go from upper hand to panic stations.
Take note Geelong.
So good to see GW's plan come together.
Never doubt a great negotiator.
Has anything really changed?

We wanted a top 20 for Grundy and a 1st rounder for Ollie.

This isnt a Treloar style fire sale, where we need to offload Grundy.

However, new coaching group obviously think Grundy's 900k+ could be better spent elsewhere (dont spend that much on a ruck).

So still think we will move him on to help us land Mitchell, a player the coaches believe will be a better use of resources.

Not sure how Dees are panic stations? They just got (IMHO) a great return for Jackson.

Looking at the list spots wise, we can't get both Mitchell and Firoini and keep Ollie. AFL site now not sure Fiorini may happen, could this because they expect Ollie to now stay? And we wouldn't have the list spots required.

This also means we have to delist both Madgen and Poulter.

To open up another spot, we could delist and rookie a contracted player?
Think we would be ok but we would only be able to take 2 picks in the Draft.

GW lead negotiator but ain't doing it on his own.

He will be updating Fly and Paul Licuria almost hourly - it's a club thing not a GW thing (unlike previous regime).

The big change is - Who is the Dees backup for Gawn now ?

I think Wilson is staying as we got special permission to move him to the rookie list?

I'd assumed that was for this year only, like other third-year rookies who were allowed a fourth year on the rookie list.

I'd missed this statement from the AFL though, which is good for Tom if we want to keep him:

Due to COVID throughout 2020 and 2021, the disruption to development, and long-term injury, the AFL has advised Collingwood that they can re-list Tom Wilson as a Category-B rookie in 2023 for one year should no other club select him in the 2022 NAB National Draft.

What that means is that we will be delisting him prior to the National Draft and then automatically regaining him as a Cat B rookie for one more year (if we choose to and he isn't selected by another team in the National Draft), so that's good for Tom and good for us as it frees up the extra senior list spot for the National Draft he otherwise would have had to take up if we extended him under normal circumstances.

If Ollie ends up nominating for the draft, what do we think he would nominate as his required length of contract and wage?

Sent from my iPhone using BigFooty.com
Cats are not going to pay more than Norf, Dawks or Bumbers
If he puts more than a year on it he won’t be able to get to cats in the future

North traded out JHF (pick1) and current pick 1.

To end up with pick 2, 3 some picks in the 40s and a future first.

North could have traded out pick 1 last year when they were going to draft JHF and received a much better draft hand than what they just received! And they also downgraded pick 1 again!

Sure did and a massive headache if Gawn goes down . . .
