I’m a massive Jack Graham fan, hope we have a real crack. He is only 24, runs all day, generally a great finisher. Seems to be a real leader, hence was in the running to be captain. If we have any interest in Mitchell, I hope they change their focus to Graham. I really don’t want Mitchell, does nothing for me might get 50 disposals but how many are to advantage.

Please Pies get this done. Appears this year is going to be a trade frenzy. I’m guessing he’ll most likely go home. Again he would slot in beautifully in our side.

Mcstay is not a ruck, Fiorini is not costing 900k like treloar, hill is comprely different player to Henry and has nothing to do with if Henry leaves, which if he does, we will get another first to use. Roughead has retired. None of those comparisons make any sense whatsoever. What kids are ready? Adams is chronically injured, we are lacking mids even is if he plays, Rougheads done, we have no full back, if Moore gets injured it’s even worse. Don’t say dean. He hasn’t played a single game and may never. Not to mention none of these players are costing anything in trade, which means we can draft more kids.
If you read my post I was simply responding to a poster that was also making poor comparisons between McStay and Begg, Fiorini and C.Brown, Hill and T Brown etc. Saying they were an upgrade. I'm just making the counterpoint that our list goes backwards if weve traded out Grundy, Henry, Treloar etc and get those guys in instead.

I don’t think anyone would argue we’ve lost talent etc, but Grundy and treloar are solely based on bad contracts. It is what it is. Many heads have rolled because of those decisions. Henry isn’t being pushed out, if he wants to go, we get a pick and move on. Most of this is outside of wrights control, he’s just trying to steady a ship that’s been off course for some time. There’s going to be some rough weather along the way

McStay in particular at $650k as a 27yo (turning 28 next season) makes me vomit into my mouth a little.

for those that seem somehow bullish about him I wonder if they have checked his record, as it certainly doesn't point to him being worth anything close to that amount of coin as a KPF solution for us for the next 3 or 4 or 5 years or whatever he is looking for.

I sincerely hope we're not just going back to the phase of paying whoever whatever they ask because they're the only players we can bring in at positions of need, because I thought we were done with that now.
I love how McStay’s salary keeps going up 😂

This is where I disagree with you, regarding profile. I believe no profile can cover all the aspects or criteria for a future AFL player (and not every club have the same set of criterias for their profile). Carlton obviously saw something in Cripps that didn't cover Collingwood's profile, as they were really, really keen on him. The idea that Collingwood's profile is the be all and end all is quite arrogant.

For me their is something wrong with Collingwood's process. I think the whole recruiting process needs to be reviewed. And I didn't like seeing the tweet about Rendall making fun of Carlton's draft pick in 2013, he showed no humility, and that sort of arrogance inevitability bites you in the butt, which it did big time.
When you look at the recruiting failures of Carlton around the time they picked Cripps, they have been wholly criticised. eg Silvagni's fascination with picking up GWS players, who've then failed.

So to suggest that somehow their excellent processes identified Cripps, does not stack up to scrutiny, given the more numerous failures.
Cripps could just have been luck, because I don't see how it could have been process.

They're only unrealistic if Collingwood aren't prepared to keep him.

Brodie Grundy is worth at a minimum a first round selection.

Teams who poach AA players pay them accordingly typically more then original club to poach them. If they want him they take on his pay.

Obviously it's not a matter of if they can fit him in, as if the options you listed are on the table then they can take on the whole contract.

If not we keep him which imo is a better result then anything else.

Pies are pretty much the only team that cap space is considered as compensation to water draft compensation.

And it's because we allowed ourselves to bent over previously.

I wholly agree with your last sentence. We got ourselves into this mess. There’s nobody else to blame and we’re continuing to pay a price to fix it.

One thing though. You keep referring to Grundy as an AA player. How many seasons ago was that? I think even Grundy’s biggest supporters would agree that in recent times he has been a shadow of his former best. And now he’s had PCL and stress fracture injuries too.

Continuing to refer to him as an AA player and expecting top tier compensation because of it is unrealistic. On the same basis you could say that Sidey and Pendles are both AA players and we all know that their trade values are close to zero at this late stage of their careers.

The Carlton recruiting department have improved considerably, I'm guess they've had many years of high draft picks to learn. In contrast the Collingwood recruiting department have gone backwards. At the moment Collingwood have all the pieces of being a great side except for our ability to recognise and find future AA grade players. This is why I don't get why some still rate Hine.

How did we make 10 PF's in 20 years if our recruiting is as bad as you insist?

On Grundy dealings with Dees, my guess is that we’ve proposed something like:

(A) Dees pay full salary and we receive a 3rd round pick

(B) We contribute say $150K pa (x5 years) and receive a 2nd round pick

(C) We contribute say $300K pa (x5 years) and receive a 1st round pick

Of these scenarios, I hope we end up with option (A).

I would take (C) everyday of the week if its the final piece of the puzzle to land Cadman or similarly Top 5 pick, with AA potential.

Can someone who isn't part of the Jonbe Ignore Club, inform him as to the meaning of infer?

Our 2010-12 side was vastly different to our 2017-19 side which is vastly different to our 2022 side. We've has 3 competing teams over 12 years. People will still say we're not recruiting well enough and need to take Carltons approach off, being terrible for 20.
There are gaps in our recruiting yes, especially around key forwards. Even still, it was reported that the club had a crack at Lynch and Cameron. You can only pick from what's available.

20 years? I'm talking about the last 10 years. The 2000's the recruiting was very good.

I think it's that arrogance why we have gone backwards in the recruiting department. Yeah it was just a fluke for Carlton, Collingwood has the best recruiting department, no need to learn and improve, we are just so good, blah blah blah.

look who we had coaching in that 10 year period, it says a lot that Mcrae can come in and take that side from 17th to a prelim with just the addition of one kid, yes i know he is a star.

we underperformed under Buckleys coaching, just a fact. he inherited a great squad and its no coincidence that after Longmuire left at the end of 2018 , we fell away very quickly

recruiting has been fine from what was available, trades and contracts on the other hand, left a lot to be desired
