If you want a laugh Fox Sports has posted an article with predictions on some of the more high profile trades. And according to them we are going to receive pick 27 and 41 (a pick we already have) for Grundy and pick 47 (which St Kilda currently have).
Interesting article. Happy to be corrected if true, but 300k per year until 2025 probably isn’t a bad result for us pending on your belief of our list.

Assuming it’s correct of course and it means we’re paying post that

Essendon's moneyball recruitment is interesting. Part of moneyball is to target underrated stars that suit the style of play at a side, not just any old player who is out of contract like they are doing with Weid. They have considerable coin in their salary cap to pursue players who are less speculative and more proven.
It's why they are absolutely terrible.

"Falcons captain Jhye Clark has revealed his preferred landing spot at the AFL draft in November.

TOP draft hopeful Jhye Clark has revealed he’s is torn at the prospect of playing for Geelong or Collingwood as he edges closer to his AFL dream.

Clark, a Queenscliff product and Geelong Falcons midfielder, is expected to be taken early in next month’s NAB AFL Draft, with a host of clubs circling.

A Geelong local and a Pies fan, Clark admitted he has watched the trade period closely as the Cats and Collingwood try to move into the top 10 of the draft.

Both clubs are haggling over the price of former first-rounder Ollie Henry, who has requested a trade to Geelong to play alongside brother Jack.

The Cats are expected to secure pick 7 from Gold Coast as part of the Jack Bowes trade, with that selection to potentially be used to nab Clark.

The Magpies are also eager to improve their draft hand and move inside the top 10.

“It would be really exciting to end up at either Geelong or Collingwood,” Clark said. “Obviously being a local player here in Geelong, I have that connection with the fan base and there is a pretty cool feeling seeing Geelong guys playing for the Cats.

“Playing for the Pies would also be awesome, they’re the club I’ve supported all my life and I love watching them play. “Honestly though, I just want to be drafted anywhere, I’d love the chance to hear my voice get called out to go anywhere, I just want to realise that dream of being an AFL player.”

Despite Collingwood asking for pick 7 in trade negotiations for Henry, Geelong has committed to taking that selection to the draft, with it set to be the Cats’ earliest since drafting Joel Selwood.

Ironically, Clark has been compared to Selwood throughout his draft year, captaining both Geelong Falcons and Vic Country teams, and has been lauded for his leadership qualities.

Geelong’s selection at pick 7 will eventually become pick 8 after Brisbane match a bid on generational father-son talent Will Ashcroft, but Clark is likely to still be available.

Clark spent the weekend testing at the national combine, as well as meeting with club officials ahead of the draft in November.

He said he had not had any of the tough questions that usually get asked of players.

“There hasn’t been any curly sort of questions, they’ve all been pretty normal,” he said.

“Teams know what I bring on the field, so it’s more been on my character, the sort of teammate I want to be at a club and how I want to lead.

“I’m sure some of the other boys will have more interesting questions out of the day."

The Weed heading to Essendon has nothing to do with Moneyball, 1, he was a first round pick and 2, he hasn't played good footy so there is no hidden value and as for acquiring players who suit a playing style you'll have to tell me which chapter that was in.

Who else is offering up their early pick? I still can’t believe we didn’t take Gold Coasts Bowes offer!

Plenty of AFL players don't play for the team they followed as a kid, and don't seek a trade at the first opportunity to do so.
Otherwise, if that was the case, Pendles would be playing for Melbourne and Naughton would have requested a trade to Collingwood 2 years ago.

And I don't see why fans (from all clubs) can't be critical of losing a high draft pick after his initial contract. It's a significant investment for the club which is basically thrown out the window. Particularly when it's not exactly because the player was in a terrible environment and treated poorly.
Disappointed yes, but critical of the kid no.

Henry is not to blame for the situation he is in. He had no choice but to enter the draft if he wanted to pursue an AFL career. He had no choice where he was drafted. Now he has served his contract he is free to choose where he wants to ply his business.

Don’t blame the kid, blame the draft system.

He didn't imply that. Henry wants to live and play in Geelong. That's it. It's not immature, it's not juvenile. It's just his preference. There is a big difference in ducking over for dinner costing 2 hours drive compared 15 mins.
Move to the western suburbs take you 30-50 minutes…

Who are we eyeing off in free agency next year, must be somebody big otherwise all these salary dumps and not going for Bowes doesn’t make sense.

You’d want a high degree of confidence that you’ll get your man…trading our Treloar and Grundy are big moves! Passing on Pick 7 is also a big deal!

Who is it, or who are the options we are looking at?

Harry Makay.

Woops...... to late not trade Grundy now.

The Wright "low priority" and subsequent silence (on not only Mitchell but the trade period in general) is so far working wonders for us.

In years gone by it would've somehow evolved into Mitchell being a huge key target and the "Pies can't afford not to get this deal done" etc.

Also wonder if Frampton is just sitting on the back burner so we can say "player x just got traded for Pick y, why do you think he's worth Z?" market is determining his value.

Of course we need the Dunkley trade to happen before the Lobb deal happens before the Jackson deal happens AND THEN the Grundy trade might happen...

Wonder at what stage the AFL realises this and steps in to ensure the Dunkley deal isn't dragged out longer than it needs to be.

Until then, media speculation and back page news. Hmm

Screw Tom Mitchell, we should focus on getting Rhys Mathieson. He's the big bodied bull we've been looking for. We can't rely on Adams anymore. His body is breaking down. Mathieson should be at bargain basement price. Can't go wrong.
OK Rhys

I thought they still needed to secure a future 2nd for the Bowes trade?

Not sure how they'd do that without turning Rat in to one.

The Bowes deal is now confirmed as a future third rounder.

Reports are that we will get a pick in the late 30s-mid 40s for Ratugolea, which Port will obtain as part of the JHF/Rioli deals.
