Grundy is a salary dump, take what you get. Bit rude of Melbourne I agree, but it is what it is
We must demand full price on Henry
Yeah we’re pushing him out the door so I’m not quibbling over those upgrades when 16 to 7 is in the offing for Henry! I expect though the plan is 16 to 13 and 13 to 7 plus 25 for 27…

Just take what we can get for Grundy and be done with it.
We dont want him here so in the long term is where the benefits will be had.

They'll be crying anyway next year when they realise how far off the perch he has fallen.

Grundy is gone - the only thing we don't know is if and how much of his salary we have to kick in.
If the Dees are paying it all I would take 27 as long as that is enough for Mitchell.
And yes - I would straight swap Grundy for Mitchell every day of the week.
Looks like Henry will be bound for the PSD as his bad manager has basically burned his bridge at the Pies.

ie with Grundy we're selling and there seems to be a buyer - with Henry, Geelong are the shy bidder, we're the adoptive parent and Oliver seems to want to find his biological parents

Best outcome for the Grundy situation is a trade that totally clears his contract - that is the last domino standing with our cap issues.
I tend to agree that the better deal would be the one that clears his salary totally. We will probably get a pick good enough for Mitchell anyway. Wright, Fly and co obviously see our future sans Grundy, so lets just build the best team we can and bring home next year's flag.

My take on the Henry trade:
1. He decided firmly to leave Collingwood for Geelong over the bye round this year. (Of this I'm pretty sure!).
2. After he did so, his heart wasn't in it and his form fell away drastically.
3. Fly and the coaching team realised this after a couple more rounds and sent him packing to the Twos, telling him to improve his defensive pressure and particularly his tackling.
4. He really couldn't be stuffed and was probably a little bitter that AJ had leapfrogged him into the best 22.
5. His form in the VFL was mediocre and his tackle count actually went backward.
6. Geelong really, really want him (but they're playing the classic cool 'Oh we're not bothered' hand at the moment).
7. Fly & GW secretly want him gone (they're close to playing the 'required player' card though) .........
8. A deal gets done on our terms to trade him to the Cats, because GW doesn't blink.

I'm not knocking Ollie's character, nor his talent. It is what it is. No judgement passed.
Not disagreeing with you but regarding Point 5, is this what happened? I don't watch VFL so I'm keen on your view

Personally I hope so too.
I got kicked out of the Geelong board simply because I said that Collingwood wanted a first rounder. Can't wait till Maynard lines up on him next year
Of all the different boards, the Cats seem to be the most precious and very fast to kick oppo posters out. They will not tolerate a different view point. I thought this was the reason we have these forums - some robust debate.

No it doesn’t. It has the value of pick 25 and 38. Stop using ******* points to value trades when we don’t need points. It’s asinine.

Seriously… *.
By looking at the numerical value of points we harvest from a trade, they can be traded to teams who need points or used to move up the order or used to trade into next year's draft. It's getting to stage of accepting the numerical value of Pick 12 in terms of points or sending Henry off to the PSD/ND and watching as a team takes him for free. I know which one I'd prefer.

That's not true. His manager said that Collingwood had done nothing wrong.

I can see that Ollie will be welcomed back into the fold if the trade doesn't happen.

I can understand the desire to get something back for Henry over nothing

But justifying it as getting points does not result in getting a good player or good pick.

Even the Richmond board is not as bad. And I can honestly say that I didn't verbally assault anyone. Not even after I was told to go back to my own board with all the other "ferals".
Meh

I think most players decide their position during the bye round. He certainly would have been pissed to have been dropped when we started qualifying for finals. Nothing worse than watching as AJ play really well just before and squeeze you out. Adding to it, Henry witnessed his brother win a flag. For his childhood team. With players he's mates with. It would have sealed the deal.

Fly and the coaching team want Henry but can tell his heart is not in playing for the Pies. It's so weird because he's close with a number of the players.

A deal will likely not get done on our terms. Way the reports are going, there's a chance it falls through and we get 12 months to inflate his value.

I did see a quote from his manager that he would sign another contract at the Pies.
But that may have been on Fox - so maybe I relied on that too much.

In other words what you are saying is he's immature and his manager has done him no favours at all.

This isn't super rules, he's a pro footballer, he's not going to mope around because he can't get to Geelong. It's simple, we want him or we lose him on our terms, buy him a violin if it helps

The way cats fans are carrying on I hope they don’t plan on coming to our board and gloating, they will be in for a rude awakening if they do. I can’t wait for a young uncontracted player to want out of geelong that they rate and hope if they get Clark it’s him in 2 years asking to come to us, I’d say a third rounder should get it done
