Delusional.

Collingwood have proven they don't put in the work when it comes to the big names like Geelong and Richmond.

We just think they are from Vic and supported Collingwood so why wouldn't they join us.

I think this has largely been a function of our cap situation. It's widely reported we were nowhere near Richmonds offer for Lynch. That was because our cap was maxed out. If we have money to make an inticing offer then things change. We just made a tough call on Grundy and I think it is to better position ourselves for these opportunities.

It would be nice if our star players decided to stay for unders for team success like they did at Geelong/Hawthorn ect.... rather than forcing us to give top dollar every time.

Treloar decided to take a hit to help the club out and didn't work out well for him, so maybe the players aren't too keen now.

Some have (Sidebottom). Others have held us to ransom (Grundy). We should have let those players go then. Then there are some really poor recruitment decisions (Beams, Wells, Mayne). It's all contributed to the cap situation. It's now looking like it's been corrected. Time will tell.

No.
I honestly believe we’ll get McDonald, Cadman and draft Moir Duursma and Reid

Not sure why you’re judging the current footy dept on the previous ones efforts. GW was able to procure several big names from other clubs in his time at Hawthorn, not sure why working for Collingwood would change that.

Also, fwiw, Neil Balme put a power of work in to Tom Lynch while at Collingwood. We then stupidly pushed him out the door to Richmond, and he took his groundwork with Tom with him. Rest is history. Heard that from multiple sources.

Imagine the end of 2020 cap debacle if we had have also had Tim Lynch's salary on our books...

Was waiting for this response. Couldn’t have said it better.

Incorrect, he decided to move money back... he had 5x900k left

We wouldn’t have signed Beams and we probably just don’t re-sign Grundy then so could have worked out in our favour. Tom Lynch’s deal isn’t also back ended isn’t it? So the cap debacle gets pushed down the line as well.

If we’d added Lynch, it means we wouldn’t have gotten rid of Balme, which means we wouldn’t have had hurricane Gubby come in and recruit Mayne and Wells on excessive contracts, and we likely wouldn’t have hired Ned Guy. For all we know we could possibly have had Treloar and Lynch on our list for the last few years if not for an extremely poor “captains” decision by a certain president to bring in Allen.
The recruitment of Lynch would have meant we could have avoided bringing back Beams too…

Yes. I suspect Gubby played a big part in screwing the cap. But he was gone by the time Lynch was available as a FA. Who knows what would have happened in the 2019 season if Lynch had have chosen us and not the tigesat end of 2018, but our cap would have been right royally screwed.

Perhaps so but if his presence tipped the balance in the GF it could have given us the flag.

I'm not saying it should have happened but it's something to consider - if only in hindsight.

As I tried to say, there’s no way to really know, given the circumstances for us to bring Lynch over would have had to have been significantly different than what they were. Sliding doors and all that. I certainly think that Balme wouldn’t have contemplated giving the likes of Phillips $600k per year, or bumping up Stephensons contract even after he was done for gambling.

The stink Gubby created lingered for quite some time.
I think we have finally just about rid ourselves of the last remnants of the stench.

Me. Nobody in the league would have been near our level and the premiership would have been quite the cakewalk
