A champion forces recognition by performance but lesser players pack their bags and move on . . .

Grundog was a great player before he got worked out but never a champion . . .

Being a champion is all about attitude.
He got worked out by his own in the bubble, he struggled because he’s not a champion as you pointed out.

That said, great player and he will be great for Melbourne but he has nobody to blame but himself. He could have taken a pay cut.

I think it’s easier for Pies fans to deal with losing Grundy if they can turn him into a villain. I don’t subscribe to that. Good luck Brodes, every week except vs Collingwood.

Feel the same way with regards to the Brown boys, McMahon, Seedsman etc, nothing but best wishes to the Boys

I felt for Brodie in the doco, but he handled it as well as he could given the circumstances. Was all done quite maturely. That's this industry. I won't boo him.

Be an idiot to boo someone who wanted to stay

Which makes me think we should have asked for more in our trade w Blues for 30
I think we did well out if the trade but they were the ones who wanted to move up
When we beat the Bloos in the Granny this year their future 2nd pick we acquired could be in the late 30's after academy & F/S's.
I rated both Cowan & Van Es & they went 30 & 31 in the draft
I was surprised there wasn't more interest from other clubs with Cowan still on the board.
I can only assume we may have someone in mind and need the future 2nd or just want it to provide options in the 2023 trade period.

I don’t think he’s villain, just think he’s enjoying the consequences of his own actions.

Consequences of his own actions? You're speaking as if he murdered someone.

Before he could sign that contract, Collingwood are the ones who typed it up and put it infront of him. Both parties played a part in what happened in the end. Both had some suffering as a result of it.

Move on.

Collingwood typed up several other far more reasonable contracts which he flat out rejected before they caved in to his demands and offered him that one. If he really loved the club that much, he wouldn’t have held out for the ludicrous terms he wanted.

I 100% agree with you. I'm just adding in that Collingwood as a club also have blood on their hands for whatever eventuated in the end. It wasn't a one way decision. You speak about "if" Brodie loved the club he would of signed for less. On the flip side "if" Collingwood had it's own best interests at heart, maybe we could of just stuck with a more reasonable contract offer. I see fault on both sides.

If Brodie was still in the same form as when he signed the contract, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Sometimes things just don't work out to plan. Shake hands and lets move on!

The crux of the matter is after he signed the contract his effectiveness nose dived massively.

Opposition sides found ways to negate his influence and he was at times a big passenger.

But the biggest lack in his game for me was lack of being able to be a marking target.

For whatever reasons his marking and lack of variety in ruck work were never addressed by either club or player.

So in the end it was probably inevitable.

Hope we're putting work into Tom De Koning. Would be perfect for us.
Strike at the heart of the scum.

His brother is at geelong.
I think we've seen this movie before lol
Ben Reid’s brother was at Sydney, etc, etc. I mean I could list all the players who have had siblings in the league who never ends up playing together, but I don’t have all day. Can guarantee though that it will be at least 3x longer than the list of brothers who traded to play together though.

Or could've taken a cut to stay last year. They do that at Geelong to get in more good players apparently, seems to work for them.

A villain and a dud, apparently.

Plus the De Konings are from the SE suburbs of Melbourne, not from Geelong region.

Or we could have done what good professional organisations do and that is determine our figures at re-signing, if he wants more then we trade for good return…not pick 25

It’s 79km from Princess Park, he’s ok to drive…

In a serious note, I think he’ll cost heaps in terms of trade and $$ so we’d just be transferring our Grundy cash issues to TDK (unless we think he’s out KPF of the future

“You have what is a really pure intent which starts when you walk in the door. You walk into a club as an 18-year-old and there's banners of Nathan Buckley, Peter Daicos ... and think that's where you want to be - you want to be on a banner and contribute meaningfully to the club.”

Yeah your intent was real pure when you demanded a 7 year 7 mil contract.

"I wanted to play 300 games for the club, this year has f----d me."

Just like when you ****ed the club by demanding that ridiculous contract.
BS.... The previous admin could have said no but they didn't. They could have said no to Beams but they didn't. They could have said no to Phillips, Stephenson and Cox too but didn't. Stop taking the easy option because it suits your narrative. Treloar does the right thing to help the club out and they screwed him over. This is all on the club.
