Grundy would be picked as first ruck in almost every club in the comp. Except Melbourne. That’s his first problem. Melbourne thinking that he and/or Gawn could perform a different role compounded the error.

His manager is surely working out a new home for him. It won’t be us.

Likely true at $600k, clearly not at $900k as he wasn't bowled over with offers when he became available for very little draft capital

I think Carmichael, Macrae and Draper need to stay

If you think about it we have pick 18, 32, 72, 90 for this draft, yes you can trade draft picks and future picks but we don't have a lot to work with.

Personally hope Mitch Edwards or Archer Reid is at our first pick and if you look at this draft it isn't midfield heavy and we eventually need to address our developing tall's or you take the best midfielder like Allen in last years draft.

Come 2024 if we do go after Ben King or Naughton it will cost a lot of $$$ and draft capital if they choose Collingwood.

Am hearing from a good family friend of jhye Clark has apparently told Geelong he won't sign another contract and wants to be traded to Collingwood
He's out of contract next year. So one to watch.
Understandable- he lives on the other side of Geelong so it’s 81km to Melb rather than 80km that upset Ollie
Let’s give them a second rounder if we have one lying around at the end of trade week
I feel really sorry for Ollie every time he plays in Melbourne. It's a long way home.

They’re both in quite s**t form
At least Grundy has an excuse in that he’s a square block that Melbourne are trying to shove in to a round hole.

I don’t think it’s any coincidence that he was looking a million bucks earlier in the year when Gawn was injured and he assumed the number 1 ruck mantle and has looked dogshite ever since Gawn returned.

I imagine we'll take the winner of the 20m sprint at the combine in addition to the best available talent. The only time we've seemed to draft for needs is in 2020, when our whole list was rebuilding. McMahon, for example, only got picked because he we needed forwards.

Yeah, both Gawn & Grundy have played their best football when they have been on their own I reckon

Payback for Ollie's stance and we get a genuine young mid who wants to come home to Melbourne and play with his beloved team he followed growing up.
Sounds familiar Catter's.....
Make it happen Pies.

They can hardball, though and will. He's part of their future.
Yep, after one year blokes will be as hard to get as any other contracted bloke, but we rarely saw blokes leave after their first contract. I think last year was the beginning of a poaching market for that group.

no. the knocks are accurate
hes ok, in the way jesse white was

I've watched a fair bit of him this year and he seems to be fine both with leg speed (for a tall forward) on the lead and in the air, won a nice 1v1 aerial contest vs Aliir Aliir early on and ended up kicking 4.1 despite somewhat limited opportunities due to GWS being handed a bit of a flogging by Port.

H looks solid, but he's not an upgrade on Checkers or McStay and can't ruck, so he doesn't improve us in the short term. Currently playing seniors, can't see why he'd move to us, where he'd probably start in the reserves.

The question is where will we find someone who does tick all of those boxes?

I don't think it's a big issue in the short term. I like McStay and Mihocek as a combo. Ideally we need another decent forward who can chop out in the ruck - maybe it will be be Krueger. I'd love us to draft someone for the future though.

Agreed, I was thinking of Riccardi as more of a "post-Mihocek / assuming Kreuger doesn't make the cut option" for a couple of years further down the track but the timing probably isn't right for him or us right now.

There's a lot of talk in this thread about getting a decent forward-ruck in but where are they going to come from? I've checked out every other list for potential targets and there really isn't that gettable "unicorn" forward-ruck type who fits the bill on anyone's list at the moment for one reason or another, unless you want to tip our hat into the ring for Esava and try to turn him back into a forward (or at least a swingman)?
