But that's my point. How precious can you get? Blokes would give their right arm to be selected to play for Collingwood but Tay is not happy if not playing in his preferred position!
A lot blokes would probably give their right arm to play for Sydney as well. I think it’s pretty precious for supporters to complain about players leaving for better opportunities.

Would love to see Wright go in dry on Mackie.
Turning this Adams situation into a player like Holmes is what I'm hoping Wright can magic.
This is also my strong hope. I’m trying to will it into existence by thinking about it as frequently as possible.

Let’s indulge ourselves in the fantasy: we bring in Holmes, where do we play him? Who does he shuffle elsewhere/out?

I know Geelong had planned to turn him into a pacy insider, but mostly played him on a wing correct?

I'll get on board with that. Someone put up a picture of Holmes in a Pies jumper so we can visualise it better.
What is Holmes best position?
Go from there with the shuffling unless someone knows where we would have him positioned.

Well if he’s currently playing on a wing at Geelong, unless I got that wrong, we can set him up there. McRae has mentioned in the past we like to play 3 wingers for rotations, which have often been Daics, Sidey and Hosk. Safe to say our AA winger stays put, so perhaps Sides plays more a high forward flank role (pushing out Lipinski/or filling Adams old role) - or Hosk shuffles back where he’s played some of his best footy of late.

That’s the best I can do. Didn’t watch enough Cats games this year paying close enough attention to him, but I do know I definitely want him, and for Mackie to get well unders in exchange.

What’s this kid good at, don’t know much about him

Along with watching him a bit this year, I did some snooping on the Geelong board. Here’s the combined intel:

He’s lightning fast (won GF sprint) and many of them are touting him as their next captain. So leadership too.

Geelong predominantly play him as a pacy winger, with bursts as an inside mid. They seem to think that he’ll develop into a Danger-esque player when he puts on weight, bursting clear of packs with pace and power etc.

Good hands, foot skills just okay. Currently 20 years old and taken in the teens in the draft I believe. Parents are Olympian’s.

Seems like a good co-pilot candidate to develop alongside Nick and could impact immediately as that 3rd winger. Eventuallly moving into the midfield when some of our older brigade start to retire.

Pies have been in his ear for some time, but no idea if he’s receptive or not.

Thanks for that, I like skills because poor kicking costs games of football. So potentially not if his kicking is just ok.

Also did some investigation of my own, his manager says he’s happy at Geelong. Doubt they let a player they rate that highly go, they’re in a rebuild phase.

I don’t even think it is a guess to say Geelong isn’t letting a contracted Max Holmes go for less than our 2023 and 2024 FRPs.

Maybe I'm biased, but I just don't see where they have the better footballers. Even their two best midfielders, Petracca & Oliver have poor disposal efficiency, particularly Petracca's goal kicking accuracy.

And I think Dee's are sloppy, selfish & lazy.

And a total bunch of knobs 😆

I hope they totally implode over the next 12 months.

Couldn't imagine disliking another team as much as Carlton. But they're nearly pushing the Blues off the top of my list.
A Collingwood and Melbourne match... Melbourne will have more players in the top 7 talent wise who are in their prime years or on the up.... when you combine both teams. Pendles, Sidebottom would have been top 3 easily but are now past their prime...

You were his greatest fan for many years, much to the dismay of most of us. We certainly don't want him him now

I should clarify I was a fan of him on the expectation that he hadn't hit his peak yet and he would actually develop into a decent player. Just hasn't come on, injured often, etc.

Melbourne lost to Collingwood and Carlton (twice) in the last 6 weeks of the year. Come talk tough when you fix that up Steven otherwise I’d probably keep my mouth shut if I were them

Our window is now.
Hoping we have some irons in the fire because losing a best 22 player for a draft pick isn't ideal.

Top up time and deal with the lack of youth problem in a couple of seasons.

Need to go real hard for the back to back then Pendles, Sidey and Howe probably finish up.

I understand the best 22. But he’s not as irreplaceable as people make out.

1 final he has played in the last 6 just as a bit of food for thought.

Yeah he has goal assists and played a negating role. I don’t think it was pivotal to our success though as much as Tom Mitchell in the middle or a Bobby Hill with his pace.

Tays position in the team is replaceable easier than others. I get he wants longevity in the contract. But that’s not a team first mentality imo.

Edit: 2 out of 6 finals played

First time I have ever barracked for Carlscum in the SF

I mean Melbourne do have better football players on an individual level. But system, structure, leadership and pure athletes? They fall well short of this team and can only compete playing a stodgy defensive style.
I think if you assessed best 22 for each team, it would be pretty even apart from the Ruck where Gawn is a clear standout.

I did too but when they reality hit that they were going to win I changed to Melbourne

Nah. Watching Melbourne go out in straight sets filled me with so much joy - only a premiership for the Pies could have been better.

And here we are. :)

They have 9 players over 30 which is about the same as us.
