I'm well aware I'll be alone in this...

But do we consider taking Franklin for a year if he's interested? Just hear me out for a second.

His body language (at least to me) shows he's frustrated in his form and the teams but he doesn't seem defeated? If his contract is up this year (is it?), do we get him into the club to train and maybe have Wadey and the team look over him and maybe rejuvenate him and change his body to play a half forward role as opposed to trying to make him the key forward?

Just spit balling, but it's something I'd consider if he's up for it. Maybe he'd be interested in having one last crack at a flag.
Would come at the cost of the rest of the team, bit like the Ronaldo to Manchester United thing.

He doesn’t fit our play style, doesn’t fit our team first mentality, is finished and would command big bucks. Massive trap so club would rightfully stay well away from that move.

Zero chance. Bud is cooked right now.

Maybe

Like I said, just spitballing

I think we can make him fit in myself, as long as he's not playing as the key forward. Reckon he could be a super damaging high half forward with us

You should spit out that spitball. Bud just produced the worst game of his career. He will be lucky to retain his spot this year.

Ok...that's fine

But that comment completely ignores the context of my post

It's not like I don't know Bud is out of form

He's not out of form, he's out of time.

You are barking mad if you think a 37yo Bud would be wanted by any club, as well as thinking that Bud(and Jesinta) would even think about living in Melbourne.

He wouldn't get a game in our team right now.

Let it go.

I think the balls up at the top of the square Saturday when he went to play on with 4 blokes right next to him might be the sign

Even setting aside the premium his name alone commands, he appears to have lost his athletic ability and most importantly his pace and stamina.

High half forward or wing is where I would play him too, but he's no longer up to it. Factor in that we play the majority of our home games at the MCG and there's just too much going against it.

Sydney have been able to extend his career somewhat as the SCG means he can stay at home more often than at other grounds. Our playing style and his age just aren't compatible.

Bud’s done, but let’s play it out a bit.

Does 2022 Bud get a look in at Collingwood in 2024? Absolutely, 52 goals from 23 matches a best of 6 and 4 or more in 4 matches is better than any individual within our best 22 will do, IMO.

Does 2023 Bud get a look in at Collingwood in 2024? Probably not, 7 goals from 6 matches is about on par with Johnson and McStay, but both of those two have spent time in the ruck.

Does 2024 Bud get a look in at Collingwood in 2024? Factoring in that he’s almost certain to be worse in 12 months time, no. With time in our system both Johnson and McStay will be better footballers than Bud in 2024 barring injury. He’s settled in Sydney so you’re probably talking a 3 year deal on serious coin (1 playing 2 coaching) to get him back to Melbourne.

It’s not happening.

And the fact we booed him all game last week probably makes it less likely. :tearsofjoy:

If he joins us, our fans won't boo him.. we are not Carlton... but while we are at it maybe we should make a play for Taylor Walker, and Phil Davis to prop up the back line....

Mitch Lewis would be a good get. Surely when Sammy blows the joint up completely he'll want out

I mean, we don't now what 2024 Bud would be after our High Performance team gets a hold of him

That was kinda the point that everyone is strangely ignoring.

Pendles is 34 and is playing almost as well as he ever has. Safe to say our HPT would have at least a little something to do with that. Surely it's not a coincidence that almost literally all our 30 plus players are playing well.

Howe (prior to injury)
Pendles
Steele
Cox

All playing well

So my post was positing a world where maybe our HPT gives Buddy a bit of a reno and he can manage to play one last decent season in a slightly adjusted role inside the best system going around.

Ben Brown would offer more and we don't need him either.

Your premise is based on an assumption which you are extrapolating to arrive at a predetermined conclusion.

Pendles' form has, for the most part of his career, remained constant. Buddy's form at 34 was also sustainable, however he is now 36 and looks to be in decline.

Cox is coming up to 100 games. He may be 32, however his body doesn't have the same AFL mileage on it that others his age do.

Both Howe and Sidey are 32 years old. The sample size for Howe is incredibly small and Steele's form has fluctuated throughout his career, regardless of his age.

All of the above suggests to me that you're assuming that the players' improvements this season are attributable in large part to our training regime. Maybe there's some contribution, however that's not proof that the same will hold true for Buddy, a player who is a full 2 years older than our oldest player and 4 years older than the rest you have mentioned.

Looking is ok. Attempting it would not be
What's this world coming to mate.
A friend came over with a poo eating video. (Boyz night) Around a dozen of us eating dinner when he put it up on the TV.
Vomit alert would not put justice to what we went through.
All for a laugh on his behalf
