It's still less definitive than your statementI never said the promised to rookie list him, I said they will “ look to doing it”.
Which is more or less what they said.

I've asked a few people whether we have upgraded another rookie, just waiting on a reponse. To explain this the fact we had 3 rookie picks. And yet by our calculations we had 1 primary list spot avalable.Maybe Begg was promoted because he wasn’t allowed another year as rookie
And theoretically, 4 on the rookie list, which would mean we'd only have 2 rookie spots available.I've asked a few people whether we have upgraded another rookie, just waiting on a reponse. Just looking at the other players picked up in the 2021 mid-season rookie draft, there's been nothing said about any of Parnell (Adelaide), Lane (Brisbane), Boyd and Mirkov (Carlton), Heath and Sharman (St Kilda) and McAndrew (Sydney) being promoted to their club's primary list. On Wikipedia it says McEntee (Port Adelaide) has been elevated, but he's not on the list of 16 names Cal Twomey gave out a couple of days back.Maybe Begg was promoted because he wasn’t allowed another year as rookie
Wasn't it the 2021 MSD? there was no mid-season rookie draft in 2020 because of covid.Just looking at the other players picked up in the 2020 mid-season rookie draft, there's been nothing said about any of Parnell (Adelaide), Lane (Brisbane), Boyd and Mirkov (Carlton), Heath and Sharman (St Kilda) and McAndrew (Sydney) being promoted to their club's primary list. So I think it's very unlikely that we were forced to elevate Begg because the AFL ruled that his time on the rookie list was up. I do think it must have happened that we elevated him (or one of the others) simply to make up the numbers (to 36 on the main list).
Exactly. And they didn't they increase the amount of time a player could be on the rookie list due to the COVID interruptions?Wasn't it the 2021 MSD? there was no mid-season rookie draft in 2020 because of covid.
Yes, the MSD rookies for 2021 don't need to be upgraded as they have technically only been on the list for 2 and a half years. They will need to be upgraded next year though if they are to be retained beyond next season.Wasn't it the 2021 MSD? there was no mid-season rookie draft in 2020 because of covid.
Yes, that is indeed correct! I just looked at this page, and they have that draft under 2020, for some reason!: 2020 AFL Draft and Trade Period - DraftguruWasn't it the 2021 MSD? there was no mid-season rookie draft in 2020 because of covid.
Yeah, people haven't been sure on this topic because we did hear quite a while back that the AFL were going to make a decision on whether or not the players from that 2021 mid-season rookie draft were going to have to be upgraded this year, or whether they could remain rookies for another year. Nothing further on that came out, and it seems they did let them remain as rookies (which is how it should be), but nobody bothered telling us!Yes, the MSD rookies for 2021 don't need to be upgraded as they have technically only been on the list for 2 and a half years. It hasn’t. The most that’s been said is that they might allow him to train over the summer if there’s a spot available.Link to this information?
I don't believe this has been said by anyone at the club.
The interview with Craig Kelly last month didn't seem too optimistic around it, it felt like he would prefer Will to find somewhere else in a new environment. It hasn’t. The most that’s been said is that they might allow him to train over the summer if there’s a spot available.
Honestly the way it was written in the article after he was delisted it felt like they were trying to let him down gently without making any promises or commitments. If the club determines that there are 6 players they’d like to trial for those SSP spots then I doubt that Kelly will get a look in, because what are we going to find out about him that we don’t already know from the past 5 years?
His best chance is to try and impress at another clubs SSP training imo.

This is all I could find which discusses rookies & a potential extra year due to covid etc...Yeah, people haven't been sure on this topic because we did hear quite a while back that the AFL were going to make a decision on whether or not the players from that 2021 mid-season rookie draft were going to have to be upgraded this year, or whether they could remain rookies for another year. The covid rookie extensions are finished. It's just whether the AFL have extended the amount of time that midseason picks can be on the rookie list - it was 2 and a half seasons and clubs wanted it bumped to 3 and a half. This is all I could find which discusses rookies & a potential extra year due to covid etc...
AFL confirms 2022 list sizes, tweaks rule for rookies
Any players in their third season as a Category A or B rookie will be eligible to spend another season as a rookie in 2022www.afl.com.au
That was a one off, but they talked about the prospect earlier this year as a new rule for MSD's that could come into affect this year. Probably in the new CBA.This is all I could find which discusses rookies & a potential extra year due to covid etc...which could be why someone like Begg who was drafted in the 2021 MSD rookie draft gets an extra year as a rookie?

ROOKIE RULE IN MOTION
THE AFL is contemplating extending the length of time a mid-season recruit can spend on the rookie list, after receiving support from clubs in a recent survey.
Under the current rules, players are required to be promoted to the senior list after three years on the rookie list.
Players selected in the Mid-Season Rookie Draft are currently more vulnerable given they only have two full seasons to prove themselves – if they secure a deal beyond the initial six- or 18-month contract – after arriving halfway through their first season.
Hawthorn midfielder Jai Newcombe is the poster boy of the Mid-Season Rookie Draft and the best player taken from the 2021 class, but others from that draft – Collingwood ruckman Aiden Begg, Melbourne key defender Daniel Turner, West Coast forward Connor West – all face uncertain futures right now.
Increasing the length of time on the rookie list won't be limiting financially and will provide clubs with greater flexibility.
If this is approved as expected, Ash Johnson will remain on Collingwood's rookie list next year, along with Greater Western Sydney forward James Peatling. Both have contracts for 2024. Johnson is also contracted for 2025. Wade Derksen and Max Ramsden also secured two-year deals this year which could see them remain on the rookie list for the duration of those deals.
Clubs have also expressed views on transferring primary listed players seamlessly to the rookie list without having to delist them first and then select them in the Rookie Draft, while there is also a push for the delisted free agency window to be introduced earlier.
AFL player movement manager Ned Guy has given clubs until September 1 to complete the survey with some changes expected to be implemented swiftly. – Josh Gabelich
I just thought it may be why some players drafted during that period as a MSD rookie may have had that extra year as a rookie...?The covid rookie extensions are finished. So boring to have the words you say match up with the thing you're trying to convey.Boring semantics ..
Nah.BTW: Do you guys want next years FA/Trade & Draft discussion in one thread?
I think draft/prospects should be separate to FA/tradeBTW: Do you guys want next years FA/Trade & Draft discussion in one thread?
Keep goingSo boring to have the words you say match up with the thing you're trying to convey.
Utterly tiresome to make sense.
Maybe there’s no deadline yet and the club hasn’t decided which rookie gets the promotion? It would seem we’ve upgraded another rookie unless the list size rules have changed to allow us to go 35 and 7. You would think it would be either Begg or Carmichael. Given Dean’s injury issues and Steene’s rawness you wouldn’t expect either of them to be elevated at this stage. I just wish they’d announce it. Aside from wanting to know whoever it is deserves the same sort of announcement that Johnson and Markov got.
