True it’s rare but there are also very few instances where it’s a viable option also. I would think the AFL would prefer for the integrity of the system that would happen if NM wanted Lipinski

After all it’s an open draft and if a player puts themselves into it they should expect they can be picked up by a team other than the one of their choice and in that instance would be happy to go where they were picked.

I don’t think clubs would be unwilling to pull that trigger if the situation arises and nor should they. Lipinski says he has no gripe with the dogs but wants gametime . NM can offer that as well as us
Very balanced and touches all the right buttons GC.

However people are seldom so.

The way I see it pick 27, previously 22, hold little value for us (other than points) unless the Daicos bid comes in at 3+.

So trading it now, rather than frantically doing so in 5 mins on the night after a bid at 1, is sensible, if we believe there's a strong chance the Daicos bid won't slide. That's especially so as it's a two part deal. Split 27 and then consolidate later picks. We don't lose any points here, we possibly gain and the pick was never anything but points because we couldn't use it.

Another angle: holding an early pick like 22 or 27 can make it more likely for North to bid on Daicos. This is a competition, opposition teams should be looking to screw over rivals. Allowing us to keep pick 22 and then trade it off for a future second or even first, might be too generous. If our first pick is late 30s or early 40s, the screwage capacity is greatly diminished and the Roos may decide it's better to take the first pick glory.
I think this idea of screwing other clubs would be almost totally absent in the thought processes of clubs

These decisions aren’t made in a vacuum. If NM are more likely to bid based on the idea this worsens our position the net effect is other clubs, also their rivals, get a bit of a leg up. How this washes out would be impossible to predict but why you have done is potentially put yourself in a position where the other club, Collingwood in this case, would seek to return the favour. Not good business usually.

Why would North bid on Daicos when they know we will match the bid?

Agree, but the flipside is why would he deny the PSD possibility, regardless of whether Lipinski has given him the option? And why would Lipinski’s manager give him the option at this stage of negotiations?

To me all he said was its a possibilty, as it's what is going to drive the price down.
it’s not up to us, so GW has to say it’s a possibility all we can do is say to Lippa we will pick you up in the PSD if we can’t come to terms with Footscray and you’re still keen to leave. It comes with risk as it’s not certain he will get to our selection.

GW would have been a great cricketer with that straight bat.

Lippa will be a Magpie next year imho

Who would North take pick 1 in PSD?

After the reaming that Ned Guy allowed the Dogs to give us last year I’m all for getting Lipinski in the PSD as a very small amount of payback.
i Don’t think GW cares what happened last year, he’s a deal maker, he’s making moves and from where I see it, he’s going ok. it’s a game and the winners keep the emotion in check, some we’ll win some we lose, just need to win more Often.

If Lobb goes to GWS I can see Freo grabbing one of those WA KPF’s early on, maybe an Amiss.

I’m wondering if that does happen do they look at Cox as a cheap option to provide support for the next two years whilst Amiss develops?

According to GW there has been no interest in Cox so far. I think Lynch goes to the hawks and Cox stays on on a heavily reduced salary as ruck and ruck forward depth

It was mentioned by Jake Niall on the real footy podcast that Anna Betts "went into bat" with the club for Tyson Stengle.

So what happens if we trade pick 27 to Richmond for 38, 42, 47? Will we be able to make any selection in addition to Daicos/Dib?

We'd have 3066 points, assuming Daicos bid comes at pick 3, with discount we cough up 1787 points (using up 36, 38, 42, 43, 46), leaving us with 1279 points.

If we trade 55 & 58 for Lipinski, we'd still have 47 & 48 to make 2 selections? Am I missing something here?

We can't - Richmond just traded out 42 and 47 in the CCJ deal.

Why would North bid on Daicos when they know we will match the bid?
I really don’t think Norf will bid on either Daics or Darcy at pick 1. They are a struggler club and this is their first EVER pick 1. They’ll want to pick their shiny new toy in Horne as the legit 1 pick to show him off. Knocking back 3 firsts just confirms this.

Giants, on the other hand, will cornhole us with our own pick (2) and nom Daics. Take it to the bank.

Just to p*** us off because it’s Collingwood.

It doesn’t work like that. That only works in the imagination of Bigfooty posters.

North have been offered three first round picks to hand over Horne and a second round pick to the Crows. They have knocked it back. That shows where both clubs value him and how much North want him. He will be the number one pick.

Surely we will pick up one of the Hawk players , perhaps Gunston

Why would it be surely? We more than most have zero reason to be interested in any of them.

Tight cap? Tick.

In rebuilding mode? Tick.

Not contending for top 4 in the next 3-4 years minimum? Tick.

Acquiring a late-20's player on decent coin is something a finals / flag contender does, not a rebuilding team.

So has the first DFA window now closed? I was surprised that Tyson Stengle wasn't announced yet as a DFA signing.

I know that we are apparently out of the running but thought that he would have nominated either Essendon or Geelong by now.

I wonder if our opting out of the Stengle market had anything to do with us being linked to a deal involving the Dons future first.

Dons: "Hey GW we really like Stengle and we know you are into him, if your interest in him would happen to cool we can make it worthwhile for you!" ;)

Three players in our starting 22 who play a similar role including two not much younger than Gunston ? tick

Back Injury risk for a 30 year old ? Tick

Its the Dons future 2nd and I don’t think the DFA window has opened yet.

I'd happily take a "3rd tall" type if they are proven 50 goals a season forwards as Gunston has done. He's led Hawk's goalkicking in multiple season including in their premiership year. Sure we have Mihocek but Gunston would be such a massive upgrade on him it's not funny. Instead of a "3rd tall" type in Mihocek winning our goalkicking with 30 goals a year we could have a one year older AA quality Gunston lead our goalkicking with 50+ a year.

If we got Gunston, he would be our only A-grader in the forwardline and provide the leadership and standards of a triple premiership player. Mihocek doesn't come close to providing that.

I'm not suggesting we trade a first rounder for him. We don't need to. There's an unique opportunity this year to effectively give up some excess Daicos points equivalent to a couple of late 3rd/4th rd picks whilst still offering Hawks a mid 20s pick in a year that Hawks have publicly stated they want to improve their draft hand.

Not consistently kicked 50 per year.

People on BF have a hard on for him but he is not on the level of his generation genuine KPFs. Kennedy Reiwoldt etc

The problem is that those who really know, have daicos way ahead of JHF, norf know that daicos is clearly number one and will take him at 1. We would do the same thing, if you want the best player in the draft then you have to earn it. Happy to be wrong but I am sure they take daicos at one
