Trent Dumont would be a good get as an Unrestricted Free Agent on base/rookie salary. Thoughts Knightmare

  • Probably a B grade player (half a tier worse than Adams), but would still be best 22 for us, and our 3rd best midfielder behind Adams and Pendlebury. In addition to keeping Crisp and Maynard down back to maintain our defensive structure
  • Dumont is also a big bodied defensive midfielder who is able to support Adams on the inside, but also keep opposition midfielders accountable, which facilitates Pendles as that offensive mid and potentially increasing his durability (Pendles currently plays that role)
  • Still only 26! And just came off a career best season as a pure inside midfielder, recently pushed out of the midfield due to Cunnington and Anderson returning from injury. Simpkin and Thomas developing further. As well as recent recruits in Powell and Phillips
I think as a mature inside mid with strong physicality, he will provide valuable support that will help us transition to a future midfield of N Daicos, J Daicos, R Mcinnis, F Macrae, etc.

Bigfooty Collingwood supporters have an outrageously unfair perspective on John Noble, in the main.

He was drafted midseason as a hit and hope like all midseason draftees are.

He's played over 30 out of a possible 36 games. Show me another midseason pickup from any team who has been as often selected.

He's been promoted from the back pocket to the back flank and then the wing.

He's flourished in each new role to the extent that he's been encouraged to broaden his horizons.

He's been exposed, as I remember it, in one game in a way any short player could be, and Caleb Daniel has had it done to him. It was up to the coach in both circumstances to solve the problem, not the undersized player.

He is so obviously a part of our future plans and the haters need to get over this fact.

I'd agree with it if he wasn't so scared of getting physical.

I hate player bashing. And Noble cops more than his share. I think he's pretty close to best 22 at the moment. He may be pushed out at some stage but you can't knock his contribution thus far.

Dumont was good a couple of years ago but has dropped off these past couple of years. 2018/2019 were his two good seasons, with his best play coming on a wing.

I don't see his role quite the same though. He's more outside than inside and not a big body. I don't see a particular need for him or reason for adding.

If you're after a big body, Cam Ellis-Yolmen is that delisted free agent and short term not a horrible solution for a club looking to protect a younger inside group lacking that big body. He's not just good, but elite for contested possessions, ground ball gets and pressure acts for his career and very good for tackles. He's a specialist, but put him at stoppages and let him be that big body, and missing out on Dunstan as a free agent, Ellis-Yolmen is of the delisted free agents that next best option down the list.

You know what? I haven't thought of this guy for a while. But yes, I reckon he could be a good short term solution. He really is that bull we need and quite capable at that. Not a horrible thought at all.

Anyone who has watched Ellis Yolmen in the last 18 months would realise his career is cooked and not worth touching.

Dream scenario is Daicos and Dib from the draft (+ future picks).

Constable, Dumont and Brander on rookie salary via FA/DFA.

In addition to Kreuger, Lipinski
from trades.

That's 5 players from other clubs who weren't in their best 22. You need better dreams.

I really like Jack Lonie with a late pick he is the only one I would look at.

Out of sight, out of mind as Brisbane haven't played him this year.

Only the three VFL games. Averaged 31d and 7t, 7m, so he's still playing good football.

He's one of those underutilised piece who can play. There aren't a lot of situations I necessarily would recommend him for, but I can't say I'd be signing the likes of Noble/Madgen/Wilson ahead of him.

Noble I reckon would be better off trying to revert to a small crumbing forward. I think that may have been his role at SANFL level.

Nope he was playing of half back / on the wing in the SANFL I think you'll find, pretty much the same role he plays for us.

I think he's got a bit of a rep for not pushing as hard as he perhaps could on the training track and even in games. CEL should be an absolute monster at AFL level with his physical attributes and skills, but he just never quite makes the cut in terms of playing consistent AFL-quality football.

A bit like Sier.

This isn't even a seasonal highlight package, this is literally based off 1 single game.

Leek Alleer has genuine AA potential, backed by athleticism greater than Allir Allir and Nicnat... and he is being potentially overlooked in the 1st round because he is slightly older (19-20 as opposed to 18).

If after matching the Daicos bid, we can somehow package our next available pick (potentially 48) and future 3rd into a pick that allows us to instantly select Leek Alleer then I say that we do that straight away with no hesitation.

I'd even be happy to do pick 48 + all 3 future 3rds if it gets us a pick to take Alleer. This guy has more potential than 99% of the 18 year olds, and I wouldn't take anyone over him apart from Horne, Daicos, Darcy, Andrews and Callaghan. So essentially he is 6th on my list for a player who could slide to late in the 2nd round...

He seems to read the ball in flight well, and that leap!

Looks a likely player

Agree. I don't mind any of the signings individually. Noble should have been re-signed. Wilson being cat B is harmless. I don't mind Madge, so don't mind him being re-signed. But when you look at our collective list: having Madge, Wilson and Murphy all on the same list is ridiculous.

Hopefully Murphy gets it together in 2022
