The players you consider a solid group of key forwards aren't playing key forward.

Doesn't mean that they won't ultimately be developed as KPF's. I'd guess that even some of the Cat's and Hawk's KPF's have had their time in defence or in the ruck. Kelly only moved back into defence a few weeks ago because we lost Roughy, Dean and Murphy. Someone had to play there.

Begg prior to being drafted was playing predominantly KPF with occasional stints in the ruck. He was seen as also having KPD capacity.

I think it's good for McMahon to play some defence. Doesn't deny him a future role as a KPF.

You also said you didn't think AJ was a KPF, more a 3rd tall. I don't see it. He's the same or similar size to others like Gunstan and Riewoldt. Showed today he's got the capacity to play the role. As I understand it, he was playing predominantly KPF in the SANFL.

Even Dean has played KPF before being drafted.

Way too early to be making definitive calls on these kids. That's why we use the word "developing".

Johnson isn’t a kid. But I think he will be a player so it’s a moot point I guess.

Begg and McMahon wait and see I guess but McMahon has looked miles off it from reports and begs playing Ruck…

Gunston is not in Reiwoldts league and imo is more suited as a 3rd tall.

We're not a marking team. We're an uncontested, running game team.
I don't think the running game reduces marking, but us looking to get numbers to the fall of the ball, rather than looking to separate the forwards and thus defenders does. I like the style though.

McMahon has looked OK so far this year. Decent prospect, but it's not going to be soon. If he can put on weight, he's pretty likely. But who knows on that front.

Have you not seen North. They'll need a fair few more teams to be decimated by covid to not "win" it.
Yeah norfs a shoe in for the spoon.

Pretty explosive mid prospect tipped for #1 atm too massive leap and sprint times. To go with Horne that will set the midfield up for well over a decade.

Doubt Port will stay poor all year.

Essendon looking like a clap trap mess atm as well likely bottom 5 to coming there way.

GC and Crows will be bot 6.

Freo bottom half of ladder too.

Have to re evaluate our finish position to end of last season I thought bottom 5 for sure but after seeing the last 3 weeks we will be pushing the top 8 I reckon. Is that a good thing long term when in year 2 of a rebuild? (obviously it is short term as it means winning more then losing) that’s debatable. I don’t believe you lose a winning culture in. Season or two takes a while for that to set in people panick too much.

I don't subscribe to the winning culture point of view either as I think a clubs mindset can reset in a single off season. However my view is that players develop better in a stable successful team, so much of the draft advantage you get from being crap is lost through development slowing through being crap.

Yeah I see your point for mine it depends on how long you stay down 2 years imo is fine and normal, anything past 2 and that is when issues happen. Last year and this year would of made ideal 1-2 punch then focus on rising year 3. But it is what it is winning always feels good.

Can really begin to see the kids coming through and who they are replacing.

I think we should see whether Matthew Kennedy at Carlton is contracted for another year or not. He was placed on the rookie list a year or so ago, and if I'm not mistaken, that means he is a free agent. 24 year old shouldn't cost much and may be another quality midfield cog.

I think Essendon will bounce back but not make the 8.
It's a long season and I can see our guys slowing down. Particularly given we are playing a highly intense game.
Still think we can come away with 8/9 wins and finish around 12th.

North don't need another midfielder. On top of JHF, they picked up Phillips last season at 3, and have LDU, Tarryn Thomas, Simpkin etc who can all run through there.
Given there are a few key position forwards/backs to be had probably around 5-20, maybe they would look to trade pick 1 for another top 10 pick and a late teen pick.

He would, though. Because he's starring.

Paddy Dow is the Lipinski product we should look into. Fits our demographic needs really well.

I’m not sold on Dow. He is small with terrible disposal.

How much will the Blues be able to offer Kennedy? Maybe competing with another club for his services could drive the contract up.

But wouldn’t cost any draft picks

He only becomes a free agent if he isn't offered a senior list contract. If he's interested in leaving, they'll offer him a senior contract - good player.

Dow picked up another 30 disposals and 2 goals on the weekend.

He has also has been starved of opportunity under rubbish coaches/game plans. So he could easily be a worthwhile acquisition.

He is also 187cm, so that’s no exactly small.

I agree Kennedy would be superb. However the only way he is leaving Carlton to come to us is for ridiculous money. Which I would hope we avoid doing again…

Is Stoker playing again yet? I'd be watching him too.

It'll be a slow re-build if we keep finishing in the 9-10 positions, (or even in the eight).
Depends what stage we're in. The 2020 class is shaping to be really strong. There's some talent in that that is easily Top 10. Henry and Ginnivan the standouts so far.

The real standouts from 2020 for me have been Jake Bowey, Oliver Henry, Nik Cox, Logan McDonald, Beau McCreery, Heath Chapman, Errol Gulden, Jack Ginnivan and James Rowe. And I think it's indicative when Collingwood have 2. Macrae, Poulter and McInnes are too early to tell. If I were redrafting that class, I'd be taking McDonald with the Number 1 pick.
