I can't see JDG leaving for anything but money, which to me rules out him moving in a trade, as that would require us matching the money. The only FAs who have moved in a trade have been go home players, or compo protection trades - I can't see that changing. There'd need to be a big falling out.
If we can afford to recruit McStay we can afford to match any offer for JDG.

think Griffin Logue would be a better option and only 24
But really we should be looking for 200cm 100 kg 21-25 year old candidates to contrast what we have
Mitch Lewis > Elliot Himmelberg both out of contract would be my priority

Definitely would take Mitch Lewis, he is bordering on being a super star of the comp....

Murphy’s breakout form is making the need for a player like Logue a little less important. Murph has come from the clouds and if he remains fit, could be the long-term third tall defender
Yes. The only real way to do the rebuild is to draft a few, buy a few and develop a few.

We need a few top players from our younger brigade (inc future third round picks).

I think if Ben McKay becomes available we have a good hard crack, and then our defence could stack up as the best or near it

B: Howe - McKay - Murphy
HB: Maynard - Moore - Quaynor
Noble and Pendlebury to support.

Murphy is playing Rougheads role. Perhaps ideally he plays Howe's? I think we still need a key defender or third tall. Logue or Highmore would be great.

Yep, loving what Murphy is doing. Long term Howe replacement.

We desperately need a #1 KPD.

Murphy will be our long term Howe replacement in that 3rd tall role.

We need a #1 or #2 KPD, what Roughy was doing. Moore having a less accountable role so he can intercept is ideal.

6th in B&F, coming into his best years. What would North want - I’m assuming it’s more than second round like Kreuger and Lipinski?

Still need two quality forwards and an inside mid …. plus replacements over next three years for Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Howe, Elliot, Mihocek.

I’m thinking three from high draft picks, three trade in and three astute development.

What about Dean
Yet to be seen. Wish him all the best, hope he becomes a great player. But depth in KP spots in essential, and competition for spots is important for growth. Another ~200cm KPD can't be bad.

Yep we do. I'd add another. Ideally Logue as a full back. I also like Highmore as a third tall.
Highmore is a handy player. Contract expires at the end of this year, if he's delisted, I'd take him for free.

Ruscoe is a bit of a derp, but he showed a bit playing as a 3rd tall. What is he now, 193cm, 194cm? He's contracted and worth pursuing with for now.

I agree, it would also release Moore and Howe more. The flexibilty Moore could bring our side is still untapped. I still think he would a great Ruck/Forward, or even on a wing at times. There is also Kelly coming through

Ben McKay is the key to North's backline, the great hope for their rebuild. He'll be their most expensive player when it's time to extend. Too pricey.

I’ve been big on trying to bring Highmore across but I’m wondering at the moment if he’d be in front of Murphy. I’d still do the deal because I have doubts on Murphy from a durability perspective. But I’ve gotta say I’ve been so impressed with Murphy the last month.

A tall defender to support Moore and allow him to be more aggressive whilst also allowing Howe to play smaller and Murphy to retain that third tall role is what we need. Such a shame Dean got injured at the time as 13 games into him right now could have been handy.

It looks awfully tall on paper to me. Could be good, but could also perhaps not be so good.

Swing Moore forward? ;)

Cost is an issue. We don’t really have tradable depth and North wont want future picks. I want to head to the draft this year, but if we play finals and have a pick outside the top 10, should we trade to improve the team immediately?

We’ll have a good idea of our biggest need come the end of the season. I still think it’s an inside mid short term, and obviously key position players long term. We’re a much better team than I thought, as evidenced by our form against the top 6. If we feel we have the list to have a crack at a flag, I’d love to trade for an inside mid like Hopper.

Shame we can’t have them all

That is the difficulty. If we are to draft a top prospect each year we can’t be using our top pick on the trade. Somehow we need to manage both, unless our young talent pleasantly surprise us with their development.

One top player a year won’t even cover the retirees.

Fingers crossed Carmichael becomes that inside mid then we add more pieces as we go along

Why would Lewis come to us?
  • He's in a developing team like us
  • He'll be well paid
  • Probably get a good amount of years
  • Respected by the club that drafted him
Unless a KPP is at an interstate team and wants to come "home", wants a lot more money, or is in a local team that looks like being ordinary for many years, they tend to stay where they are.
