Would you give up our first for Taranto? I would.
It would probably take a bit more than that. Might require some of our army of third round picks and perhaps some 'steak knives'; we might be able to free up some list spots that way by offering GWS any or all of the two Brown brothers, Bianco etc.

However, to answer your question directly: yes, I'd do it gladly.

The one thing I wouldn't be happy about, though, would be if we had to give up JDG. The plan would be that we'd have both of them exchanging roles continually through the midfield and to the forward line in a kind of synchronised loop, (like an unstoppable chainsaw, slicing into the soft flesh of our hapless opponents!)

Oh it matters, McDonald is going nowhere so your trade scenario only exists in your own mind.
Not in my mind. Just something that was shared with me from someone inside the club hence classified as a rumour. Whether it happens or not is another thing. Was interested in what people think.

Sorry if your feelings were hurt that it wasn’t shared with you first.

Don’t apologise! All they bring to the table is shitting on any opinion they don’t agree with. Martin’s off to Sydney post 2022, that much is clear, so I’ll watch this space without getting too invested one way or the other.

Another concussion and he retires. He knows the risks, he wants to play - the AFL isn't the league that stops people from taking to the field. It's a mutual agreement. One more and he can retire. I'm not touching him. They play him in a much gentler position to prevent concussions from occurring. He'll never play inside mid and he finds space more often than contests. I do acknowledge and think your statement about the risk with every position is valid, but I believe this is one of those mutual agreements.
He's not been concussed since about 2017. He is arguably one of the lowest concussion risks in the league, because he is well aware of how he reacts, what the bad symptoms are for him, has a good doctor network for it etc. No way known he retires if he cops another one, unless it's a really bad j brown style one.

So he's gotten through 5 years of footy since then including time in the midfield.
I'm of the cautious school of thought think players like Paddy McCartin should not be playing AFL. It's something to be aware of and consider before investing in players.

If Brayshaw is such a big concussion risk why is he playing footy at all? I understand some positions come with higher risks but any position on the ground is going to be a big risk regardless. If concussion risk is there it's not something you can hide from on a footy field.
For the same reason McCartin continues, because they can. Footballers will only step away once they’re told to (ala Roughy). High level I’m more inclined to like Brayshaw than I was 3 months ago because of Sidebottom’s drop off, but $’s wise I just don’t see how it works. I think he heads west to team up with Andrew replacing Mundy in the midfield. They’ll make it work by trading out Lobb.

It's definitely something you'd need to consider. I think you'd lean heavily on the medical advice.

What do you think Brayshaw would cost? It'd be nice to find a ready made inside mid through trade or free agency. If we can replace a Brown with a player like Brayshaw (someone of that quality) that midfield is a different beast.

For Melbourne to retain him based on his 2022 and his age they’ll need to find at least $600k over 3, IMO. For us or Freo the “attraction” premium means you’re probably looking at $700k over 4 or 5. I’ve come around to the need for another big body around the contest I just can’t swing that deal considering he has no exposed form in the role.

Upgrading a Brown and filling that inside role is an ideal outcome, but I can’t readily identify someone I’d be keen to chase who we can make work under the salary. I’d love Warner or Rowbottom if they chase Martin or perhaps SPP if it’s on the cheap, but it’s really only Dunkley or Taranto that would improve us immediately and we’d have to move Grundy which is all Knightmare/ Madden type stuff.

Brayshaw doesn't really play inside mid now. More defence/wing. McCreery I think is an inside-mid beast.

Yeah I know that because I also follow football. I think there is opportunity for Brayshaw to return to his more natural position. He could be gettable as a free agent. He would be a good addition to our midfield group. The constraints there are obviously the outcomes of a medical, whether he'd be convinced to come and the contract considerations Sco identified.

I think we'd have or could find $6-700k. Whether we should spend it this way is another question. Brayshaw's played inside before and done well. I'd say it's his natural position

Have no problem with people floating ideas but it's when they attach its "from inside the club" or "I know someone on the board" and then finish with the the disclaimer, it might or might not happen. I don't believe you, simple as that.

Sometimes people share genuine stuff, things get thrown around behind doors all the time but they don't always come to fruition. The Martin to sydney trade will happen either way. Essendon want JDG and the only way Sydney get Martin is by losing another good player. This one will be a close watch.

If Lion doesn’t McStay, Pies could be destination

Collingwood is firming as the likeliest destination for Daniel McStay if he chooses to exercise his free agency rights and leave Brisbane, industry sources believe.

Melbourne, the Western Bulldogs and Fremantle – which could lose Rory Lobb to a Melbourne club, a year after he tried to return to the Giants – have also been raised as potential landing points for the key forward.

This year is seen as the sweet spot for McStay to cash in, especially with the Lions already upping their original three-year offer to five.

The Demons and Bulldogs have both had challenges scoring this year, while Magpies coach Craig McRae revealed the depth of his concern with his forward stocks after beating Melbourne on Monday.

Brody Mihocek ended up playing a matchwinning role with four goals after not training in the week leading up because of bone bruising in one of his knees.

“Geez, I was nervous when I thought he wasn’t going to play,” McRae said of Mihocek.

“We just don’t have the depth in that position to bring somebody else in to play that role.”

Not doubting u but Richmond doesn't make much sense, already have Lunch, Riewoldt & Balta, I know Riewoldt is old but the other two will be around for a long time yet

Balta playing down back, and Riewoldt probably pulls the pin, as well as Martin potentially being on the move. I could definitely see it.
