I don’t disagree, but he’s an out of contract player who isn’t in our best 22 and won’t play finals. We won’t have a say if he decides to leave. If we can secure a pick at around 20 for him in that situation, it is a relative win
I think he’s a chance to play finals, chances are we’ll cop at least one injury.

This isn’t a situation where the supposed destination club has a strong hand in negotiations either though. Ollie might be out of contract, but there’s no danger of him walking to the PSD etc, because he’ll be immediately snapped up by another club if he does.

Channel 7 News tonight.

7NEWS Melbourne’s Tom Browne recently reported that Taranto - who spent some time in the Victorian capital this week - is deciding between the Tigers and Magpies.

In a further update on the talks, he has now revealed the Pies have “slightly cooled” on Taranto “from a big-money perspective”.

Consistency in a second year forward is incredibly rare, particularly when they’ve been forced to play in a role they’re not really physically suited for. I think you’ll find that 21 goals and 15 games from a second year forward is a well above average output, especially given the Covid interruptions his draft class had.

Unsurprisingly, only Ginni- 2nd year or 1st year player - has kicked more goals than Ollie.

That's on total and average goals.

The only other player who’s relatively new (ie first or second year) to average more goals than Ollie is AJ.

That’s an interesting play…clearly if he is after a big pay day it won’t be with us…which I am very happy to hear on the back of our previous efforts
GW doing some very good things

Hes on a massive deal. We couldn't afford it anyway
yep, gotcha, but...what if the Weagles paid some of it? I know it's a bandaid solution, but I feel like we have the blokes to fill the spot, but in a couple of years. McGovern's experience would greatly benefit anyone who wants to be an intercept defender.

It’s been a long, long time since we’ve seen a player go to the draft and not get to the club that they intended to go to. I’d rather take a slightly disappointing deal and head back to the draft, than get nothing at all and watch the likely result in Geelong getting their boy anyway

Their 1st isn't good enough for Ollie.
I think you are right if it 18 or so I myself would want a top 10 for him at least, I would wonder how they can afford all blokes there after. It sounds like they have a better version of the Swans version of the cola increases only no one seems aware of it, I do not think Ollie will get to Geelong but we don,t know I remember when Beams left we got terrific value for him and then we went and balls it all up bringing him back.

I am not really keen on any of these players we are being linked with TBH but i would like to keep Henry.

When was the last time a team successfully walked a player to the draft, without said player having a massive price on their head? Because Geelong certainly aren’t in a position to be offering Ollie a kings ransom, particularly with their other targets they have.

Bloke's a star. If he was fit for the next two or three years he'd add plenty, even in his 30s.

Problem is he would want a decent amount of coin to move east. The money we would need to commit vs his injury profile and his status as a KPD would push the risk factor a bit too far into the red zone for me.
He can go live with his brother lol. Only if he's cheap.
If the Weagles covered some of his wage, could be useful. Just a hypothetical. He missed some matches due to rib injuries, unlikely to happen again. Calf...yes. Hammys..yeah.
I think the retirement of Roughead left us a little short down back, no disrespect to Jordan at all.

Cooled on Taranto means he's told us Tigers is his preference.

An inside mid is far more important than a small forward.

Richmonds cap must be tight?

I would be a tad disappointed if there is an exodus at gws and all we land is Hill who has not played for a year.

You are joking right pick 20 for him, mate the only way I would letting him go is if the pick secures us Cadman if not no thanks.

Ollie will be playing VFL finals this week and who knows he might be only an injury (god I hope not) or 2 away from playing in the big stuff so you can see why he has not signed yet.

Agreed I don't think 20 is fair either. The only reason other clubs are interested is because he can play and should get better. He is out of contract though which does give him some power. Also agree on Cadman. Looks like just what we need.

Pick 20 would be getting bent over and done dry. Only thing that would make losing Henry ok is if we got Cadman for him. Pick 20 won't do that.

Henry does not have a strong hand at all. He's a 2nd year non free agent. He is also incredibly talented, would be in high demand and would cost. If it's true he's involved in trade week something big is brewing. I think it's far more likely he stays and this is all empty speculation founded on his contract status.

Friend who is a Geelong supporter rang me today and he does get good mail and has been right more often than not. He said Grundy and Henry are almost done deals to Geelong next year. Asked how they could afford them and he said in Grundy's case may be the sticking point.

He is not a guy who boasts and one of his favourite players from our club are Pendlebury, Elliott (still going on about his mark and kick for goal against Dons) and Maynard.

I hope this time he is wrong as I would hate for either to go there.

After being on a high all week, this is depressing.☹️

I agree, but that won’t result in us getting a great deal for him on the trade table. If he wants to leave, the best we can hope for is a late first/early second.
I'm trying to think of a similar comparison. I can't really. Talented players rarely walk out at the end of their first contract.

Agree, not just about Henry but I am one that doesn't think we should let Grundy go. (Remember I was a big Witts fan).

Fingers crossed that it will work out and my friend has been mislead.

if you're Geelong's list manager, would you offer a pretty penny for an unproven kid playing twos? Be realistic.

That's just ridiculous. Ollie Henry is not nominating for the draft in the hope he gets through 16 clubs to land at one which wouldn't be in a position to offer a huge contract to keep other clubs at bay. His manager would be laughed at if he tried that bluff.

One of the reasons that it's been a long time since a listed player nominated for the draft and didn't get to his club of choice is because players don't nominate for the draft to try to get to their club of choice.

You're right, they get to their club of choice via trade. This could be no exception (if he wanted to join Geelong)

There has been no links to him anywhere. Media not even talking about him leaving (and all betting a deal will be worked through) The focus point has been about just working through a deal.

It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the speculation given he has so much talent, but players don’t typically leave this club.

Does anyone else wonder why tf collingwood has not drafted a key forward for a long time?

McMahon was drafted as a key forward but after that I cannot remember.

You look at Nick Larkey and Mitch Lewis who were were pick 70+

Looking at the draft of Stephenson who to be fair did help us get to the GF, the likes of Naughton, Sam Taylor, Oscar Allen

I know Naughton and Taylor were drafted as full backs, but we have had Cox and a Rookie Mihoceck (who I love) as our key forwards.

I still hope Stephenson comes good even though he plays for North
