It's a salary dump.. ffs you guys are delusional.
When we signed him, Adelaide were willing to pay more. So in theory who ever gets him will be getting him on a contract below market rates.

Now obviously he is not currently the all Australian ruckman that was…the question is, is there any reason why he couldnt get back to that level. My view is with a change of scenery and less pressure he can get back to his best, even at 80% he is a top 3 ruck in the comp and a ball winning machine. So that is your floor, and anything else you get is a bonus.

I also agree that parking that amount of money in ruckman is not the best use unless that ruckman is Gawn or Grundy…Grundy can ruck with the best of them but also wins ball and tackles like a machine. So really you are paying him for output and the fact that he will ruck all day with minimal support means you can play a marking type or a small instead of a lumbering second ruck…that is priceless also.

I’m in the camp of keeping him, if he takes a hefty pay cut. For our list balance we need to spend more money in other parts of the ground, and we can’t afford him. Other clubs have managed their list better and can.

Melbourne are looking at him because they want to play two ‘rucks’. They don’t want to play two rucks they want Grundy because he wins contested ball better than most, and Gawn because he can mark the ball forward and back…with those two in the side they will never lose contested ball and clearances. It’s genius.

I can see the abuse on the boards if we lose Grundy and we get smashed in the Ruck every week for years. It’s not as if we have emerging talls. I don’t rate Cameron and Cox is ok but that’s it. Just so we all remember, Grundy is our leading player in clearances, is rated in the top 10 of the best players in finals over the past 6 seasons. Personally I want him to stay because if he goes we’ll struggle for a long time to replace him. We just keep giving them away, Witts, Lynch, Grundy.
But we’re getting smashed in the ruck / centre clearances even with Grundy. So people also need to remember that if he leaves….

Any news on Will Sutherland being a potential pickup for a Category B Rookie? He did state at the start of the season he would like to come over from Cricket. Believe it was reported in the Herald Sun that he did speak with Collingwood at some point. Best mates with Nathan Murphy. Was rated fairly highly in his draft year if I recall correctly.
He was rated at no1 by many.

He had more going for him, but also more going against him. Is he still playing footy? Or did he switch back to basketball?

Rantall is playing for Norwood in the SANFL avg. 24 disposals at 78% d/e, 3 clearances and 5 tackles a game. I always thought he was too slight for on-ball and not athletic/productive enough for wing. Got caught in between.

In Play or happening.
Mcstay: Will be done with no draft picks from us. ( Unless JDG goes then we will trade to not lesson and compensation pick )
Bobby Hill : Likely a 3rd round Draft.

Frampton : If we push the button probably a 3rd round draft ( we have 3 )

Potential others I feel, are based on any movement from the CFC from either JDG or Grundy.

My hopes are they don’t move and we improve from within and getting more games into AJ, Dean and others. Mcstay stiffens us up at either end.

If Grundy goes to ?
Dees: They will have a suite of draft picks coming in from the Jackson deal. Not sure we could be satisfied with a player and pick.

Hawks : Maybe a Gunston or Bruest with a good draft pick.

Geelong : Sav Rocca and a good draft pick.

GWS : Hill and Taranto will Do if their Salary is in check. ( Think GWS need Grundy more than most in their current position) They get experience in rather than than giving Draft picks to us . Probably suits us as well.

If JDG moves on : Super important we get good draft picks for trading or using. We will need engine room people. Taranto probably comes back into play as we would have currency to satisfy GWS ( Not Sure the Tigers will )

If Ollie moves on: Hopefully it’s the Cats as we could like a potential mega trade with Grundy and big SAV and picks coming back our way. If someone else expect a mid first round pick in return. I like Ollie but we could invest a pick 10-13 on a future KPF as I think we are covered with his position moving forward.

At best we pick up a few very late picks for any other trade outs like the Browns etc.

All I know is GW will be licking his lips.
Esava Root-a-galah is seriously shit.
Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane, Jessie White **** tease of player, who drops marks and cops more than his fair share of injuries.
I hope they trade him to Carlton.

And we don’t need Gunston, Breust or anyone else on a superannuation tour.

The inability of supporters to realise we have Begg and that they will bring in another ruck with Grundy going.

We have Faye too, so we’re all sorted.

It’s just my opinion and does not really warrant such a smug response.

He has a trade rumours page, so now all his opinions come with an air of authority. I don’t agree with your assessment, FWIW, but you could be right as not everyone develops at the same rate. Winx didn’t win a whole lot as a 2yo or early 3yo either.

Don’t forget they have each had two COVID impacted development years…one of those was non existent.

I would give Callum a lifeline if I were another club, a rookie list spot. He provides great depth and can do everything but kick. Reports were his kicking had improved over the preseason…its a confidence thing ultimately. His substitute game a few weeks ago was very good, didn’t really miss a target…we made a mistake not giving him a game ahead of Macrae in round 23.

With Tyler you were always going to have to be in it for the long haul or not at all, he is 2 preseasons off a mature body for his frame. So I agree there…having said that there are many young and undersized player who make more of an impact, so I think he gets another year.

Kelly is the same, he has the pedigree with his brother to become a top end footballer. I wish he had some of his fathers mongrel and competitive drive.
If we bring in all the rumoured players, I doubt any of the 3 will be retained. As for Callum he has other issues with his game apart from kicking. Compare him to Adams , he isn’t a good kicker either.

Hi Phantom,

Agree with SAV but a change of environment might be what he needs to bring out his potential. Al la McCartney going from the Cats to the Lions.

Re Breust and Gunston: Many sides have pinched a GF before their so called window.
Both these players have career goal Ave of 1.9 per game, higher than any other current Pies players. Both their seasons have produced 2 and 1.9 goals a game in a side that has had significantly less inside 50’s.

GW will do what’s right.

5 clubs reportedly after him, he’s a contracted gun. We will get fair value and beyond.
all those clubs are keen cause we've already let it be known we're letting him go for next to nothing. this is the calm before the storm, this thread is gonna explode soon.

It may not happen but it's the sort of offer you'd need to make for us to be even remotely interested. Henry is an uncontracted 2nd year non-free-agent. We've got the leverage.
North could walk him to PSD and we lose him for nothing

I'm still astonished that we could let two AA / AA squad rucks go for peanuts, in Witts and Grundy.

Say what you will about changes to the personnel making these decisions and the reasoning behind the current push to move Brodie on, that's a masterful level of mismanagement over several years from our club.

I can only hope this is all part of Wrighty's great reset and that we can manage things far better from this point on.

The problem is that Grundy is taking up too much salary cap space and isn't playing to the standard that is required for a 950k per year player. It was a horrible decision by the previous administration and is being rectified by the new one. Grundy is also 28yo with 5 more years to go. It's not personal by the club or anyone else involved, it just makes sense

Yeah I tend to agree. I don't want Grundy to go, he is a very good player, a great person, and is obviously valuable to the side. But with his output having already reduced since his AA years, and that downward trajectory likely to continue in the back-half of his current contract, it's a sound decision from a pure list management perspective. There is obviously a cost with losing him, but I'd argue the opportunity cost of keeping him is greater - we just need to recruit a 'cheap' ruck to strengthen our depth. We just need to ensure we don't force him out, we don't want there to be cultural fallout.

Port is the one we want going after Grundy its the perfect pick and being an Adelaide boy even better.

Lycett and Port 1st for Grundy and Pies 3rd

You take that, they have no need for Lycett, would love to somehow get Georgiadias and Ports 1st

Lycett would be a great fit at Geelong aswell.
