Just this once I’d love us to pull off a real trade coup (old/broken Tom Mitchell doesn’t count). A Dangerfield, Franklin, J.Cameron, Tom Lynch, Lachie Neal type of coup.

We really haven’t landed one since Buckley and Ant Rocca. That was a looooong time ago.

With McRae and wright at the helm, will we finally be seen as a destination club?

I'd be interested in data on the outcomes of Grundy's clearances. Lots of miscued sky balls that gain little territory and end up with the opposition is my perception. Are the additional clearances that we get beneficial?
We were the 3rd best scoring team from centre clearances and the 8th best scoring team from general stoppage clearance with Grundy in the team this season. Since he went down we have been the 17th and 14th team in those areas, respectively.

That indicates some significant value

It was a bit tongue in cheek. But if my posts are to be summarily dismissed in this manner, I will switch to 100% serious mode so as not to upset the funereal tone of the thread.
I'm putting the wobbly nature of this thread down to pre-game jitters, trade week apprehension and nervousness about the reduction in COVID iso requirements (the latter has clearly rattled the scientific community here)

Tom Mitchell gives me beams 2018 vibes. Got ahead of ourselves with making the GF and made some poor decisions. We could easily miss finals next season with similar results not going our way. I don’t like it. If we can steal one this year then that’s amazing but we still have a list rebuild that needs to be done right. A 29 year old mid doesn’t fit for what he would likely cost.

Please

Tom Mitchell is a respected person at Hawthorn and a true professional he isn't a disgusting pig of a man like Beams.

Lets not get close to comparing the 2, Mitchell was played out of position the first half of the year.

I'm not saying we should go after him but the 2 situations are nothing alike.

Agreed. In terms of professionalism and character, it is night and day

I’m not buying the Mitchell interest. But if we can move Grundy on and pay less on his salary, and pick Mitchell up to help the hawks out in return it’s a simple decision. Mitchell only has a year left on his deal, he’ll basically be a one year rental which could save us north of 500k over next 5 years or whatever is remaining on Grundy’s contract

It does. But I'd like to see the actual numbers in terms of scores - that shift may only be indicative of one goal and may be swallowed by an increase in scores against from clearances that are turned over.

Agreed. I think the AFL would really benefit from some analytics nerds getting publicity. The NBA has people like Kirk Goldsberry and Thinking Basketball which are really interesting.
