They took Allan under McRae. Both very similar in terms of physical size and pace. Can't see any reason they wouldn't have also taken McInnes.
'We're not there yet': Pies face tough list decisions on star veterans
Craig McRae has been chatting to premiership veterans Scott Pendlebury and Steele Sidebottom regularly about their future beyond this seasonwww.afl.com.au
I'd like to revisit obtaining Ollie Wines. After Tay's exit and successful transition into a Sydney side brimming with midfielders I'd like to think that we could offer Wines more midfield time than he's currently getting at Port.
He's tough, big and would compliment our younger outside runners (both Daicos's, McGuane, Allan etc....) if we could give him 4 years.
Who’d want to be a coach.....
"But we're not there yet ... respectfully, we want to honour our greats and those two in particular, they live in that bracket.
"Funnily enough when it's a premiership list it's bulletproof, and then when it's not, it's got holes everywhere in it.
"But we're going to have a bit more of a futuristic look at that ... I'll leave that to others to make all those finite details.
"We'll be collective on making sure we get the right direction for this footy club."
...
To translate:
We'll let Steele and Pendles enjoy the next few games because they've earned it.
We'll make a call on them at the end of the year with our focus firmly on the best interests of the club.
Keep in mind that Fly's arse is getting roasted by the media (and some fans) yet he will come across as respectful and well-considered.
if we had youngsters coming through to replace them, and we dont think we can contend next year, then by all means it could be time...

What is it with Wil Brodie, we have Bytel and Long and adding Brodie! Ffs, not good enough!! Vanilla upon vanilla with more vanilla.Personally Berry just doesn’t find enough footy IMO to be worth chasing as a midfield option.
May as well play DeMattia in there.
For mine it’s chase Brodie, Khamis or Jiath and Garcia through trades. And try to pick up Zurharr and Cumming though FA.
Sidey's position is replaceable as we have multiple players that can play on the wing or half back.if we had youngsters coming through to replace them, and we dont think we can contend next year, then by all means it could be time
but we really dont have anyone young coming through and we have poor depth, there is no point going into freefall like north did.
much better to have a managed hand over and use them strategically for a final year
could be. so who would you keep from the older brigade?Sidey's position is replaceable as we have multiple players that can play on the wing or half back.
We talk a lot on here about all these half backs we have and recruit, meanwhile we've had no injuries to the area, Markov and Noble are pretty ordinary and we've only got blokes who aren't ready and probably will never be ready as depth behind them. It's probably our weakest area. And it's showing with our inability to transition.Sidey's position is replaceable as we have multiple players that can play on the wing or half back.
Prob pendles for 1 more yearcould be. so who would you keep from the older brigade?

We’ve got a good one but we need him in the midfieldWe talk a lot on here about all these half backs we have and recruit, meanwhile we've had no injuries to the area, Markov and Noble are pretty ordinary and we've only got blokes who aren't ready and probably will never be ready as depth behind them. I would give WHE 2 more yearsProb pendles for 1 more year
Howe has the trigger, so one more for him
Ideally sidey should be the first to go, we gotta start the transition, otherwise come 2025 we will have so many to retire at once
Elliott, mitchell, Cox, mihocek all ending their contracts.
I would give WHE 2 more years
1 year with triggers for a 2ndI would go 1 year contracts from here on....
He's been Cat's sub a few times recently. Wouldn't have thought that would happen with Hawkins out injured.
To be fair to Berry he has been played a lot as a defensive mid (tackling beast & HF). That could be because as you rightly point out he doesn't get enough of it. However our mids offer nothing defensively.Personally Berry just doesn’t find enough footy IMO to be worth chasing as a midfield option.
