Hahahaha this forum went from high to one pick being traded as well and OH ITS BULLCRAP!!...

This is seriously such a strange group
I still think the trade was definitely worth doing, it’s just a shame we had to fork over our first pick in the draft too.
It went from being extremely good value just a good trade in my book.

This is a powerful play, just remember if we get Houston and pick 58 as chump change for giving up a future first (Mcguane will still be our future first next year) it's not all doom and gloom, as Swanny has mentioned there is a statistically greater chance to win a Brownlow at 58 than pick 1 with Swan and Neale both picked at 58 😆
Imagine the melts if we win the flag next year and pick 58 turns out to be hidden gem while Pick 13 turns into another MaCrae.

Looking at this latest version of the trade has put a dampener on my enthusiasm about this. Of course getting Houston in is still amazing but it looks as though we’ve ended up trading out of this draft almost completely to do it, which isn’t an ideal outcome given Leppas earlier comments about wanting to maintain a presence in the draft and wanting to keep 23.

I was genuinely looking forward to being able to see us draft a decent KPP in the second round this year but it looks like another year of having to rely on Hine to sift through the rubble to find a couple of diamonds again.
I'll wait to see what the actual deal is before I judge.
Houston is welcomed though.
Ready made play maker from the back half and many feel capable of playing in the middle too.

Makes us a better side.

23 is only useful if we have a target that requires it.

Wait we’re giving away our second too? That makes the deal quite a bit less favourable if true…
Ultimately it's just going to be a 10 place difference in the 40s where we pick first. Small price to pay to land Houston. The fact we were able to land him this year with no draft capital is amazing in itself

Wonder what we’d use for Robertson. Would Kreuger be of interest to Brisbane? If we could somehow do that and pick Hayes up then we’ve improved the list I think.

Personally I’d rather the Cats approach though.

Getting players like Bruhn, Henry, Smith etc at the start of their careers, once they have proven themselves at the level, rather than the end.
Thats what I meant... We aren't going for 27+ every time.

There will be those 20-23 players and they'll get them in. We're having a crack in the window.

"The deal was getting closer on Monday after talks sped up, with the Magpies deciding on trading more capital for pick 13, which was in essence turned into Houston. They had previously been reluctant to give more than pick 13 and Richards."

We folded to get pick 13
We “folded” to get the best player available in the entire offseason

I will wait until it is officially confirmed, but Houston is by far the best acquisition we could have got this trade period. I am not overly concerned about early draft picks. You can build a list with free agents, trades for decent players, plus late draft picks, with the occasional father son or top pick.

Houston & Perryman instantly improve the list.. The other 2 may do.

Pies still have a lot of 30 plus year olds who likely will become more injury prone.

Luck is very important to win one.. especially with health.

I think potentially 2026 is a year Pies can stack talent once Pendles and Sidey, along with one or two others, retire and free up cash.

The last decade of Pick 36's

2015: Tom Cole

2016: Josh Williams (played 2 games for North)

2017: Charlie Constable (retired to play WAFL)

2018: Tom Berry

2019: Elijah Taylor

2020: Charlie Lazzaro

2021: Jake Soligo

2022: Tom McCallum

2023: Shaun Mannagh

A grand total of three of those players have had any sort of impact (Mannagh, Cole, Soligo)

You'd think we've traded out a Daicos pick....... some here need to get a grip

Our fast ball movement through the corridor relies on kicking skills. We have just improved exponentially in that area. This will even further enhance our game style.

I'm ecstatic that we've got Houston but finishing without 36 or 39 would push the trade over in favour of the other parties and especially for GC as they didn't even part with 23.

Provide 23, with that instead of 29 going to Port and we probably retain 36 or receive 39.

At the end of the day consider that lost pick in the 30's as payment for getting Perryman and then remember we're getting in an elite talent in Houston and that guy in Perryman who finished top 8 in the GWS B&F in 2 of the last 3 seasons.

It's not the end of the world and our side will be strengthened in 2025 due to their presence.

Yep
Hefty price to pay for a bloke who is basically an upgrade on John Noble
