A little surprised with Leggy getting delisted considering he's a premiership player just 12 months ago, but then l think Houston is in, Perryman is in, we have Parker developing, and the youth in Jiath and DeMattia who all play off HB, that doesn’t read well for Leggy. On the rookie list you would think he is now just a true depth player, who may get an occasional game next year.
AJ didn't surprise me, but l think this could be the best thing for AJ. Hopefully it's a wakeup call for Ash, and a moment like this in his career maybe the turning point for him. I hope we do get to rookie Johnson and see if we get back an improved version of what we've had over the past 12 months. The talent is definitely there....

Tigers would be struggling to make the minimum.
So they probably need to front load Lynch even more to scrape in!!

Some aweful players are going to get great contracts at the tigers over the next few years.
I think Apex is right and they're paying Rioli and Bolton salary - hence the big trade deals.

I wonder how many guys have been delisted the year after playing in a premiership

Martin Pike, Blake Caracella, Brett Montgomery, Ben Cousins, Daniel Chick, Jacob Townsend, Chris Masten and now Oleg off the top of my head.

Defence wouldn't be a bad move for Reef. He's quick, tall, decent at ground level and strong overhead. There are some transferable qualities. No idea how he actually defends, reads the play from defence, holds positional structure so would be a bit to learn/assess. We need someone post Howe so there's a role there soon.
Howey would be a terrific mentor, if Reef is up for it.

How did Murphy's height get to 192cm lol. I think we drafted him at 188cm and then somehow willed him into KP height.

Reef was 193cm at draft time.

His time therefore did not officially enter the record books, but it did further enhance his reputation among AFL recruiters as the strong 193cm midfielder continues to press his claim as a potential first-round selection.

We actually need AJ and Markov to be rookied or we get zero savings. They were both contracted for 2025 so if they aren’t rookied we have to pay out their 2025 contract. If they are rookied and their 2025 contract was say $300k we would save the $100k from the rookie pool but still have to pay them the $200k remaining on their contract.

If, for some insane reason, we don’t re-rookie them(and no one else takes them) we have to pay them the whole of their 2025 contracted amounts and those dollars would go to our 2024 TPP.

Reef has shown good athleticism and his size is ideal to replace Murphy... and eventually Howe.

Howe as the mentor as someone mentioned is an excellent plan, if it is the plan.
Not sure about his marking to be honest, when comparing to hiw Murphy played. Ball seems to bounce off his hands.

But he seems to be able to move well and can run.

Well technically if another club picks them up they also pick up their contract, so it’s a bigger saving again. We don’t have to pay them out in that circumstance. Either way we’ll make a minimum $200k savings in our cap.

Moore isn’t exactly “these days”, he was drafted 10 years ago now. And it’s pretty clear he’s 200+ cm now, he’s pretty much the same height as Cameron who’s 204.
It depends on the timeline of the changes and what his draft camp height was. For instance like Kevin Durant it’s possible he was underreporting his height early career or have you also considered that some start their career giving a without boots number and then pivot to a with boots number? The moral for me is I’ll back in GC’s consistent messaging on here that it’s rare for guys to grow after entering the system and heights are irrelevant when you have 188cm Sicily capable of monstering 211cm Cox. Being good at football is the real factor when looking at their ability to play a role.

Last chance saloon for Reef but in his favour, defence is far more structured and requires less natural footy instinct than midfield and (especially) up forward, which was clearly a deficiency for Reef.

He has the physical attributes but whether or not Reef has the same manic, fearless mentality of Murphy remains to be seen. It was that mentality that turned Murphy into Superman for a while, despite eventually becoming his own kryptonite.

Good luck to Reef. I hope he makes it. But this really looks like the final roll of the dice for him.

I'm a Reef skeptic, but think with his skill set you have to give him a go in defence to see if that works, so am glad we've given him another year - as long as it's for defence.

I imagine Richmond will also be trying hard to get up to the minimum 95% of the cap spend now so they wouldn't be actively choosing to make list manoeuvres that are designed purely for salary cap manipulation.

Wouldn’t you just front-load all your contracts?

Absolutely, he could get a job in finance and make a killing. Proverb of the Chinese gardener and all that.

Yeah, my assumption is that with all the outgoing salary from contracted players leaving, Richmond realised that they could sign Balta to that massive deal and frontload a giant portion of it, so that it's extremely team friendly during the back half, so it made it more appealing.

Whatever amount they're under the salary cap this year and next just goes to Balta until they hit 100%.

It is a bit weird. Markov was a revelation in 2023, helped shape our fast game and transition out of defence, took to social media with fans like a duck to water, even had his own song (Oleg Oleg, Oleg Oleg 🎵) - and then…

But he’ll always be one of those rare species - a Pies premiership player with a medal to prove it.

Would be great to see him go again, but he may be a one-hit wonder.

Front loading intrigues me. Say it results in Balta only getting paid $300,000 a year in 2028-2030. What happens when a rival club comes in and offers him $1.2 million for those years?

I think he already belongs to a club of one of players who won a flag in the season they were picked as an SSP? Not to mention he was dumped before Charlie Dean saved his bacon.
