I mean, it’s essentially a bad internal bruise he has, not a rupture. As it stands his body will be in the process of reabsorbing that blood (as I understand it anyway). It’s not something that’s going to affect him a huge amount in terms of his quality of life in the short term, he just needs to avoid heavy contact until the haematoma subsides. He actually trained on Thursday and only went to get scans because something “felt a little off” in his own words.
I am only taking at face value McCrae's comment that Cox had bleeding in the spleen and Dr Google doesn't seem interested in mild bleeding conditions, only ruptures and life threatening stuff.

Someone mentioned Richmond’s Ryan as an appropriate comparison for Steenes inclusion.
On checking, Ryan is 19kgs heavier, and still looks out of his depth.
So I’m still struggling to see how Steene is an option - I don’t want to ruin the kid, especially as the Big O is 25kg’s heavier.
I doubt Ryan has 5kg on Steene let alone the 16kg on the AFL app. Steene’s listed weight is unders, Ryan’s overs and unfortunately McInerney’s is probably unders as well.

Steene close to 100kg. Big lad

If he resumes full training too early (despite the fact they know he has had a bleed) and suffers a rebleed from contact or another incident it could have disastrous consequences for Cox and the medicos (wallets/ licenses). You’d think with this injury they’ll be extra cautious. But who really knows haha we could be talking about an infinitesimally small bleed/ haematoma 🤷‍♂️

Gotta love the speculation

Yeah, that’s well over a month.

Theres a 23 day gap between round two when cox got injured and our round five Sunday game vs StKilda. I hold out hope he can be back for that ( assuming this week is too soon), meaning we only have one game this week where we need to organise a makeshift ruck combination. Surely he can wear a brace or something to protect him from further contact injuries to the ribs.

That's always the way with these injuries where so much is left to the imagination. It opens the flood gates for glass half full and totally empty people like me to suspect the worst and state as much.

By eye I personally thought low to mid 90’s, but it wouldn’t surprise if he was at 100kg. Either way he’s definitely more than the 87kg he’s listed at.

According to some track watchers in early January Moore is still a fortnight away… These “non standard” injuries are really a case of they’re back when they’re back, IMO. Although TFT’s logic seems sound.

Dr Google suggests a bleeding spleen is potentially one misstep away from death. It's a wonder that Cox was in the rooms last night looking as though he was fit and at ease with his body.

'What happens if your spleen is bleeding?

If this capsule tears or splits, it's called a splenic rupture. If your spleen ruptures, it's the most likely of all of your abdominal organs to cause life-threatening internal bleeding. A ruptured spleen is a medical emergency that requires swift diagnosis and intervention, and sometimes surgery'
Except it's not bleeding it's a hematoma
pool of mostly clotted blood that forms in an organ, tissue, or body space. A hematoma is usually caused by a broken blood vessel that was damaged by surgery or an injury.

How serious is a hematoma?

The pooling blood gives the skin a spongy, rubbery, lumpy feel. A hematoma usually is not a cause for concern. It is not the same thing as a blood clot in a vein, and it does not cause blood clots. Follow-up care is a key part of your treatment and safety.

A hematoma is what I understood it to be but McCrae muddied the waters with loose use of words.

Yeh 100%, we’ll find out when we find out🤞 for the big fella. Please no rebleeds

If we concede we are going to lose the ruck battle then adding an extra midfielder in place of Cameron might make the most sense.

Of course using a combination of McStay / Johnson takes one tall out of our forward line and might reduce their effectiveness in a forward role also due to shouldering the ruck burden.

Whether the coaches decide to demote WHE on the back of his 2nd average performance in 3 weeks is still to be known and will likely dictate whether there is only the one or two changes.

Before the VFL game tonight I was leaning towards a combination of McInnes and Ginnivan replacing Cameron/WHE but I now think we'd need to go one forward with one mid and to 3/4 time at least Ginnivan outside a nice 1st quarter goal hasn't done a whole lot and would be earning a recall on the back of what he produced in 2022 and not tonight IMO.

McInnes hasn't had much of the ball either and he's not an aerial threat as a tall forward at this stage but he's reinforced what his strength is and that's winning the ground ball and converting his opportunities in to goals.

He gets the nod just ahead of Ginnivan and Wilson for mine.

As for the midfielder who could possibly replace WHE (or Cameron) then it's been another solid performance from Macrae up until 3/4 time though I admit it's hard to ignore Allan and his eye catching traits. He's looked far more advanced than I was expecting these past 2 weeks but whether it's still to early for him in the eyes of McRae is an unknown.

Cheer up you never know we might break out the big gun and put the captain in the ruck, Billy, IQ, Bruzzy, Murph, JFN and co have got the backline sorted
No0 way would i ever risk Darcy

Dermie played with broken ribs with an inflatable vest under his jumper and kicked a bag.

G’day pies fans

I missed the end of your game, did McStay ruck for Cameron? As some noted he was quite good rucking almost a whole game in a final last year. Only issue i’d see is might make your forward line a bit short? Harris Andrews is about our one inform player so if he doesn’t have to be accountable he might take a few intercepts.

Oscar is a decent ruckman, certainly top shelf. If he has a physical edge he often just belts it or grabs it. Probably a good tactic given how far on top your midfield will likely be!

Only hope i give us is the venue. We are a long way off it at the moment. The thing that jumps off the screen watching collingwood is your players all just sprinting so often. Have a look afl team sprint efforts in the app. You will run us off the park unless we somehow win a LOT of clearances.

Daniher should be dropped for being selfish. Hipwood looks like a first year player. We used to be good at scoring but dysfunctional now.

Has anyone been tagging Nick Daicos? Seems to have a huge tank.

Cameron out Cox will play next week
He could have played tonight if it was a grandfinal we just opted to be conservative I think he will come back in and maybe someone for whe
Even if it was a gf, cox would not have played, not with the injury he has.

Not sure one goal and 10 possessions is enough for Ginnivan to get back into the side.

Out: Cameron, WHE
In: Cox/Steene, Bianco
A poster in the VFL gameday thread applauded Ginni's brilliant snap goal in the 4th, so that should be 2 to the guinea pig I think. The official VFL stats only have him on 1 for some reason, but going by the VFL gameday thread (post #221) he had 2. Doesn't matter much I know, but I get nerdy about inconsistencies like that :)

After watching VFL

In: Ryan, McInnes, Wilson
Out: Cameron, Hoskin-Elliott, Carmichael

Frampton to play Ruck, assisted by McStay/Johnson
Murphy to play key defender, Ryan to play 3rd tall
Wilson to take WHE place
McInnes as a sub
