We won last week without 2 of them. We can still win.
Spot on, somebody else will step up…and if they don’t who cares we are basically assured of top 2.

What’s important is that we are fit for finals.

I’m resting everyone that is showing signs of injury, and definitely those like degoey that are carrying something!

Fin Macrae needs to play for Degoey.

If we win, we can try and help get Melb to 2nd spotm, which would be an advantage if we happen to lose week 1 in finals. I'd rather play a PF final against Melb in Vic that go to Bris.
Let’s just worry about ourselves.

I would rather win this week and if we do meet Melbourne in a qualifying final beat them and have them going interstate preliminary final weekend to make the granny
I would rather win every game we play for the rest of the year.

Agreed. We’re really struggling in the engine room. But I think Pendles is now past that role and better value setting up play off half-back.

We need some break-away speed and/or tackle-breaking grunt. McCreery? Maynard? Allan? The cupboard is quite bare.

I can’t see us winning this game, especially at Marvel, so would be tempted to take a punt and debut Allan. He might surprise as one of those who looks better at AFL level surrounded by better players, than at VFL level. I don’t see much downside to giving it a go but admit that there’s very little chance of it happening.

I also think Howe needs to play forward to keep Andrews accountable and stop him “doing a Sicily”.

Might as well rest De Goey and Noble.
You just said elsewhere you want to win every game for the rest of the year. Now you want to rest blokes. You want your cake, and I guess like most sensible people, you want to eat it too. But you're happy to leave out important ingredients. The cake may fail without them.

I would never bet against Collingwood. Ever.

But the reality is that if DeGoey is out, we badly lack explosiveness and pace in the middle of the ground. If Noble joins Daicos and DeGoey on the sidelines, then that’s three of our main ball runners out and a big loss of “metres gained”. It probably needs a radical/experimental solution but doubt we’ll be so bold. So yes, I do struggle to see a path to us winning this week. But I’ll be supporting the team on Friday night just as passionately as you and will be delighted to be proven wrong. It wouldn’t be the first time!

Yep, I don’t care who we meet in the finals, if we’re good enough we beat them. Form is everything now.

Except Carlton. While we will beat them, I may not survive the encounter.

"can't see us winning" is outlandishly pessimistic - especially for the favoured team. Metres gained is mostly a pretty meaningless stat. Murphy got 3 coaches votes last Friday with minus 2 metres

Possible team if De Goey doesn't get up.

Out: Moore, De Goey
In: Sidebottom, Macrae

Howe. Frampton. IQ
Maynard. Murphy. Noble
Sidebottom. Crisp. JDaicos
McCreery. Mihocek. Hill
Elliott. McStay. Ginni
Cameron. Pendles. Mitchell
Lippa. Adams. Markov. WHE
Sub: Macrae Or Reef?
I like the idea of Reef as the JDG replacement - he has similar explosiveness and can play forward - his VFL form last week was very good

We’re splitting hairs. You and I both love our team and want them to win. That’s a given. This week, I think it’s less likely that we’ll win than you do. That’s OK. I hope your optimism proves more accurate than my caution. Go Pies!

Jakob Ryan starting the session in black.

Steele in full training and black.

De Goey doesn’t look to be going 100%.

Bobby Hill also in some doubt to my eye, think it may be an ankle complaint.

Noble fully training and looks fine.

For those of us unfamiliar with Ryan, what type of player is he? What are his best attributes? What’s a like-for-like comparison from elsewhere in the AFL?

Meters gained is definitely not a meaningless stat. He's talking about midfielders not key defenders.
Obviously it depends on the role you play in the team but for the likes of Noble, Degoey, Sidebottom, Daicos's; meters gained combined with disposal efficiency is about the best metric of midfielder/flanker impact that there is.

Any sign of Noble? Is it likely that Ryan is a replacement for Noble? Excited to see him debut if he gets a run.

Disposal efficiency, yes, MG, notsomuch. Easily skewed.
