is amazing.

No surprise they are the competitions (countrys too) biggest club but the level of that support has really been brought home to me this week.

Work in Collins St and reckon todays parade was the biggest easily of last few years. Pies fans outnumbered Saints it seems 5-1.

My street (and I live two kicks from Moorabbin) is festooned with St kilda paraphanelia but responded equally with Magpie material.

Every second person I meet these days seems to be a Collingwood supporter.

Scalpers pricers for GF tickets at record levels

15,000 at training.

As much as we all hate them, theres no denying they are easily, and with a massive margin, the number one supported club in the AFL

I'm actually not that surprised, fairly obvious I would have thought.

So if they are clearly number one, who is number two?

For me, I'm looking forward to when Richmond becomes a power again. You'll see a lot of their dormant fans come to life again. Could you imagine if last weeks PF was between Collingwood and Richmond? The passion and noise in the crowd at an overflowing MCG would be deafening.

The hype would be the same if it was any of the "Big 4"(Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon or Richmond). It's just that the Pie supporters have been starved of success for so long that they are all coming out of the woodwork. Melbourne will be in meltdown when Richmond make another Grand Final.

Melbourne might have literally melted by the time Richmond make a GF.

not convinced by that

reckon pies support is clearly greater than the others mentioned

its the old Dan26 argument. Despite all evidence to the contrary is is so because I say it is so. Last Bombers game this year had no one at it. That just doesn't happen to the Pies sorry

That's bullshit. In the late 90s when Collingwood were crap their numbers were down too.

Big 4...

There is only a Big 1.

Collingwood.

We make 25% more money than any other team.

Probably helps that we've made 41 grand finals. Even though we've had premiership droughts, we've always been up there and contending in every decade unlike a few other clubs that have long periods of not seeing finals let alone a premiership.

yep! check out this article: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...lingwood-tsunami/story-e6frf9ox-1225928047039

All footy clubs love that sort of thing, but to Collingwood it means more than most - it's sense of family easily outstrips all other sporting clubs in the land, and always has.

You don't have to like them for it - indeed, they are not only the most popular club but also the most unpopular - but you have to admire it.

The AFL certainly does.

Chief executive Andrew Demetriou told the Carbine Club lunch on Tuesday the Magpies were the main reason overall attendances were the second highest ever.

Last week's preliminary final figure of 95,241 took the club's total to 1,468,247, beating its own competition record of 1,432,878 set in 2007 - and there's still a game to go with another 90,000-plus guaranteed.

That will mean an average of more than 62,000, the main reason why the MCG attracted 2.95 million spectators, a stadium record.

It would have put Collingwood in the top 10 in the American National Football League and behind only Manchester United in the English Premier League, the world's biggest soccer competition, Demetriou said.

The boss almost ran out of superlatives as he noted that president Eddie McGuire had increased membership from 32,000 to 57,000 in his 12 years in the chair.

According to chief executive Gary Pert, Demetriou has also told the Magpies that the league has rated every club in 10 categories this season, such as ladder position, revenue, merchandise, website traffic and so on - and the Pies have come out on top in every one.

It wouldn't be accurate to say a monster has been created here. That was done many moons ago. But it seems the beast has never been bigger or hungrier. Or louder, judging by the roar that engulfed the MCG when it became obvious a spot in the Grand Final had been secured last Friday night.
go pies!

A Carlton V Essendon Grand Final would outdo a Collingwood V Richmond Grand Final as there is more than a Premiership at stake when our two teams meet next.

as much as this sounds hard to senstive WA/SA ears, GF is a bigger event in this city when two Melb sides play.

Its just reality

um - i think he was referring to the fact that pretty much at least 1/4+ of west aussies born and bred here support the eagles and another 1/4+ the dockers

in a state of 2 odd million

so listening to you lot go on about the big 4 and how theres such a massive gap to the next team blahdy blahdy blah makes us giggle just a bit

in west coasts glory years if we had a 150000 seat stadium - i dare say we would come pretty close to filling it in home and away games - let alone finals. id think the dockers could fill probably 100k as they are now

for a derby - i just dont reckon you could build a stadium big enough.

sorry for interrupting your victorian fantasy circle jerk and all.......

1/4? So 500,000?

The club esitmates that Collingwood has 1.5 million supporters world wide, so you've got a bit of catching up to do there? ;)

oh -- and how do they come to that figure when they have to take their shoes and socks off and undo their fly to count to 21?
