Collingwood's level of support

1/4? So 500,000?

The club esitmates that Collingwood has 1.5 million supporters world wide, so you've got a bit of catching up to do there? ;)

Yet most of their games against non Victorian opposition only get around 40,000, sometimes even less, in a stadium capable of holding much more.

We do that every week in a shithole stadium with far higher ticket prices.

Biggest in Melbourne? For sure. The country? Maybe, maybe not. If they are, it wouldn't be by much.

Are you expecting every Collingwood supporter in the world to fly in to Melbourne for their games?

Of course you're going to get more people to your games in a 2 team town because 90% of your supporters are located in that city.

A Carlton V Essendon Grand Final would outdo a Collingwood V Richmond Grand Final as there is more than a Premiership at stake when our two teams meet next.

If the Pies get up tomorrow, I'd hope that they may be able to emulate Geelong and try and get one more whilst their window is open. Massive if, but if they can, the record will no longer just be Carltons and Essendons.

It will be at least 5 years before a Carlton vs Essendon GF eventuates, so I doubt your expectation would come to fruition.

chris who - those figures at the bottom were

Brisbane Broncos (NRL) 1,202,611 (1) 1,220,959 (2).
Sydney Swans (AFL) 1,163,872 (2) 1,272,049 (1).
Brisbane Lions (AFL) 879,597 (3) 880,233 (3).
Melbourne Storm (NRL) 789,603 (4) 761,724 (4).
Essendon (AFL) 707,506 (5) 710,067 (5).
Collingwood (AFL) 701,803 (6) 704,806 (7).
Melbourne Victory (A-League) 701,119 (7) 616,748 (9).
West Coast Eagles (AFL) 658,542 (8) 708,194 (6).
Adelaide Crows (AFL) 633,441 (9) 617,536 (8).
Sydney FC (A-League) 630,593 (10) 605,359 (10).

hmmmmmmm swans second - thats because every single person in sydney when asked what team do you support say "er..... sydney ducks? um pelicans... no - no - swans - yeah."

same same for the melbourne storm - both of these figures are pretty abstract - i support perth glory when asked about soccer - but if they folded up and died tomorrow i would barely notice.

It's easy to say Pies are the No1 team now because they are up and about but the same thing will happen to Richmond, Essendon and Carlton if they were on top of the ladder.

ohhhhhhh - ok - i get it now - its like ... a diaspora - like the jews sorta thing - reviled and despised and after many pogroms they are dispersed around the world to escape unfair persecution for being morons who have no ****ing teeth.

so what sort of percentage of collingwood fans live in melbourne would you say - i mean out of this 1.5 million - would you say ... 20% - that would be 300000 supporters 30% - that would be 450000 - sorry if the maths is getting to you - but im just wondering how many of your multitude of "supporters" aside from the ones who apparently live elsewhere... are available for game day.

Of course those figures are pointless, there is no way to put a number on support without ranking it accordingley. Whose a supporter the guy who is a member and goes to every game? The guy who once watched a game at a pub and liked the colours of a side? Well if you pick the latter Collingwood arnt the most supported side, If you pick seated members they are (note that adelaide and west coast both have full houses as far as memberships go)

This Collingwood most supported side "In the world" thing annoys me as it is just spin.

Enough to have by far the largest attendance numbers in the AFL. Dunno why you're taking this so personally. The Eagles aren't even close to Collingwood in supporter numbers so why get bent out of shape about it. Relax.

attendance, you play against same state teams what 15 times a year

ROFL at the Collingwood posters naive enough to believe that the Pies don't get shitty attendences when they are not performing well on the field. Are you guys 10 years old or something?

Collingwood had the highest attendance numbers of any club in 2005 and we finished 15th on the ladder. How low do we have to go before it starts having an effect?

Ah, the old unprovable, anecdotal 'We have supporters all over the world' claim.

Strange how the largest crowd to attend the London game was for West Coast v Fremantle.

There are West Australians all over the world too you know.

They were the smart ones, escaping the 1950's

One bad year. You poor devils. I wonder you didn't chop yourselves. Try six years in a row like Essendon. As I said earlier Pie fans were hopping off in droves in the late 90s and when Essendon become a force again we will pick up. Every club has its bandwagon element. You are very naive if you don't believe that.

I suggest endulge in a little more research, my toothless friend.

is amazing.

No surprise they are the competitions (countrys too) biggest club but the level of that support has really been brought home to me this week.

Work in Collins St and reckon todays parade was the biggest easily of last few years. Pies fans outnumbered Saints it seems 5-1.

My street (and I live two kicks from Moorabbin) is festooned with St kilda paraphanelia but responded equally with Magpie material.

Every second person I meet these days seems to be a Collingwood supporter.

Scalpers pricers for GF tickets at record levels

15,000 at training.

As much as we all hate them, theres no denying they are easily, and with a massive margin, the number one supported club in the AFL

No disputing that they are by far the biggest club in the AFL but I work in Moorabbin and everything is red, white and black. I have seen very little evidence of Collingwood support. I picked up my tickets at Southland this week - the entire queue was Saints fans - no Collingwood colours anywhere.

I don't know how people can say it was 60/40. I was looking around trying to guage what sort of split it was, and it was like doing a 'Where's Wally' book trying to find a St Kilda supporter. I would say it was more like 80/20, and that would probably be generous.
