Time to pick a new captain (again), and while it seams to be a race between a handfull of players, Josh, Pebs, Maxi, Pendles etc, just wondering if anyone thinks a roughy might get up..... GO PIES 09'.

A darkhorse or someone not expected. Is it time to long term with say pendles, a few years with Ant or 5-6 with Josh-maxi. I ment no disrespect to any of the players with 'roughy', just the first word that sprang to mind.

Pendles for me... He is the standout leader of this footy club already... We need to show some faith in a yong leader insteaed of looking at guys that have been around for 10yrs. If they dont go for youth then i reckon Tarks.

i mean dont we remember when the club chose burns they said it was the best option for 1 or 2 years while pendleberry prepares to be the next captain

I really think we are guessing when we say it's going to be Pendles.
Personally, I hope its Josh, he has played some of his best games as Captain (re: Adel vs Coll elim final), and seems as the captaincy might take him to the next level that we so desperately need.
Wouldnt argue with Pendles though, love the bloke, and is clearly on his way to becoming a 200 + game elite midfielder.

Shoulda been Heater, but its either Josh or Maxy, and at this stage, if I had to chose one, I think Josh is marginally in front. Personally, I'd lean towards Maxy.
But rest assured, its a two horse race.

Of all the players on the list, the one who I reckon displays the class, guts, and toughness, plus inspiration to be captain, is Dane Swan. His old man - Billy Swan - showed in in the VFA at Port and Williamstown for over 300 games.
I think that this is an area where the club is osrely deficient now that Buckley and Burns have retired compared to the captains at Hawthorn, Geeelong, Carlton, North, Western Bulldogs, etc, etc.
Sorry guys but there is really not one player on the list who stands out as captaincy material. Fraser is far too soft and will never cause any physical damage on the ground; he has never taken a game by the scruff of the neck and inspired the team. Pendlebury is still learning the game and I have grave questions about his physical toughness. Maxwell is simply not good enough to be an AFL captain; he needs to concentrate on getting back to being a really consistent defender and help his fellow defenders. Finally, Cloke drops his head too often and tends to wander far and wide to get kicks on the wings a la Tarrant.

i ll be surprised if the skipper is named tomorrow. it took them til the start of the season proper last season to announce a captain.

Skipper will be named tomorrow(press conference at 1.30pm). In the latest edition of Black and White mag they stated that more than likely the skipper will be annouced this year and they weren't waiting til the NAB cup games.
This to me points 100% to Fraser. He did a fantastic job during the finals and really stood up over in Adelaide. He will be our captain with Maxy vice.

Well, I get pieces here and there from those in the know, and last time I got an update, it was a two horse race. Something's changed post-Arizona if its Pendles' gig tomorrow.
