And you guys don't trip up when it comes to finals?

97- Prelim Final - 40 points up only to lose
98 - Home Prelim Final - Lose by 10 goals
99 - Bow out in straight sets - Alastair Lynch even pulled out the choke gesture
08 - Smashed twice in 3 finals

Speaking for any sport, not just football, but there is nothing more pathetic than to not give credit to the winning team for winning and instead putting it purely down to the losing team "not showing up". IMO its the lowest form of any sporting commentary and shows a complete lack of general sporting knowledge.

Bulldog supporters are being a little smug saying they hope they meet us in the finals (obviously they are concluding they are big game players, so we better watch out) for some reason foolishly assuming that they have it in the bag and once again judging things purely on paper as well as the media hype which has got them thinking they are a formidable unit. I think both teams have strenghts and weaknesses, people just seem to focus on the bulldogs strengths and collingwoods weakness and use this to conclude that the bulldogs are better.

Bottom line is sport it all about competing on the day, so they need to accept the fact that they were not good enough on Friday night and move on and not let the dissapointment of the loss affect you into making foolish comments about beating us in finals. P.S I am aware you beat us in the 2006 finals but that was 3 years ago and means nothing.

Funny you should mention this. I was watching ESPN this morning and Mitch Albom (excellent US writer) had a red hot go at Serena Williams for that exact thing. Venus is generally pretty gracious in defeat, whereas every time Serena loses she gives almost no credit to her opponent. Barring some bizarre incident, the better player or team on the night wins.

But this is all nothing new on Big Footy! Gloss over the loss, focus on your enemies' weaknesses and talk about things "counting" and "not counting". Rinse and repeat each round.

Majority of Doggies supporters I know are good value though. And you've got to have some kind of ticker to go through what they have. :thumbsu:

This is different now

This is the best Dogs team ever

better then reaching the final hurdle and constantly falling over time after time after time..

1954 i guess is still a distant memory to you guys.......Pretty funny considering you've only jumped the hurdle once:D

I think the difference is most pies supporters seem to be over the moon about their sides performance, and yes the pies played very well. As a dogs fan I'm unhappy about the loss but if we had led the pies by 41 points in the 3rd qtr and only won by 1 point I would be very p.... off and not impressed at all. I guess it depends on your expectations.

I think you'll find most Pies supporters are disappointed with the last quarter. But the fact is, we got ourselves in a position to have a shocking last quarter and still managed to get the 4 points. Everyone seems to think it was just the Dogs playing at their best in the last quarter, Collingwood won't play a worse quarter of football than that again this year, a lot of our errors weren't even due to the Dogs.
I won't be confident playing the Dogs in round 22, but I'm a hell of a lot more confident about the prospect than I was 1 week ago.

I think the main reason why we lost was that Malthouse out-coached Eade. He had the match ups right, and playing an extra defender in the backline (shaw & johnson) really clogged our fwd line and the pies were able to rebound far too easily. I am still at a loss as to why Eade refused to have someone play a shut down role on Didak. At every centre bounce he lined up on the wing without a bulldog player near him. He is easily Collingwood's most dangerous and creative player, and if you allow him to pick up 27 kicks mainly uncontested, then he is gonna burn you which he did.

Cant wait for the rnd 22 game, and hopefully this time someone plays on Didak.

Personally I'm impressed by the win, because most people probably didn't think Collingwood would get in front of the Dogs, let alone dominate them like they were at one stage. I know we dropped off in the last, and I'd preferred us to have gone on with it and mantained the big lead, but I'd rather win like we did than fluke a 1 point win by getting in front for the first time in the dying stages. It gives us confidence that we can clearly be better than the Bulldogs when we want to be, as opposed to having to have everything go right and fluke our way to a victory.

Picken tried, but Didak is just too delicious

I dnt think giving your man 20mtrs at the centre bounce is trying. I dnt even think he was on him for that long, only for a quarter or so. Usually Dale Morris plays on him, especially when he plays that roaming half fwd role, and he usually beats him.

Yep we were smashed by Hawthorn in the QF, but put up a pretty good performance against Geelong in the PF. If we had kicked a little straighter we could have run Geelong a lot closer than the final margain.

Well in most of Collingwood's so called Grand Final "Chokes" we lost by under 10 points. So either way I will be counting your lose to Geelong as a choke.

You can do what you bloody well like, but in a game all so-called experts gave us absolutely no chance I thought we acquitted ourselves quite well.

Hopefully if we get ourselves in a similiar position this year we will learn from our errors and put in a better performance.

Well our performance against them in the preliminary final in 2007 was a lot better (5 points as opposed to 5 goals) given the fact that we played extra time interstate the week before is credit to this. However it didn't equate to us having a better finals series the next year.

yes Morris had a good game on Didak once when his knee needed a reconstruction. Maybe if he gets fitter and not fatter he might be able to play on him again

I wasn't talking about your team so how your team performed is pretty insignificant in my mind.

So kicking 6 goals 5 to 1 goal 2 in the last qtr would have been a fluke?
You would have preferred the pies to go on with it and have a big win, well they didn't, 1 point was the margin. I'm glad you are pleased with that as I said the pies played very well. Wish I could say the same about the dogs.
