Pleased to read in this morning's Herald Sun that we will be getting nearly $200,000 on compensation for loss of earnings from the Colonial Stadium debacle lasy year.

Now the financial loss is a little less unacceptable!

A group of us slammed colonial when it was built and we were shit canned from everyone, the joint is a farce it's a joke
and i tell you now it will never work!!!
the people have voted we are not as transparant as the w***ers would believe,re the free beers saga its just a case of desperate men doing desperate things!!!

There is nothing in life greater, than to be a supporter or our beloved collingwood football club,we must remain united,we must stand tall,we must be prepared to fight for our glorious black and white, for we are THE ENVY OF ALL NATIONS.

joffa, wish I'd known about that at the time, I would have backed you up. I hate the place. I've been there once, and that was mandatory, because my team were in the finals for the first time since 96. Even with the organisation going fairly smoothly, the queues were horrendous, especially on the concourse from Spencer Street. The much vaunted atmosphere was a beat up - way, way better at the MCG. The surface was the best it had been all year and it was still crap. They'd painted the grass green.

I don't want to pre-pay for tickets (well, being a club member it rarely comes up, I suppose), I don't like being told where to sit (at least in parts of the MCG you can still sit where you like), I don't know why the AFL want to go courting theatre-goers anyway, when the place can barely handle 20 000 supporters. I don't like being told every time the queues stretch to quarter time that it's the fans fault for turning up too late. And I don't like watching footy in a tv studio.

That arseh*le early last year rabbiting on about educating the public in a new way of attending sport was just about the last straw. They can chuck all the cheap beer at me that they like, they can embark on publicity campaigns till their arses turn blue, they can do what they like. But until they learn to treat their supporters (the bloody people without whom there WOULD BE NO FOOTBALL, and the reason they can pay themselves so handsomely for screwing up the greatest game on earth) with respect, I won't be going to Docklands.

Unless Hawthorn play a final there. That's different.

Thanks CJH. I'm surprised this wasn't all over the board after last weekend. It seems the Colonial people (and especially Collo) haven't learnt a thing since last year. To hear Collo lecturing the supporters after the first debacle was really depressing.

but then I remembered that Port beat Essendon. And that's more important, isn't it?

RogerC,

I actually have no issue with the actual structure of the Far Queue Stadium. It is just a stadium made of concrete, with seats etc which will be there for the next 50 years.

It is the management of the stadium that I have problems with.

Have no doubt that the reason there were long queues last week was because they were trying to operate with the bare minimum of resources. That their primary objective is turning a profit and not customer service.

This was the problem last year. This is still the problem now.

How stupid are they for not investing a little money into this customer service? Wouldn't take much, just enough staff to ensure people are seated quickly with the minimum of fuss.

It is going to take them years to clear the bad name, all because of a short sighted need to turn a profit.

I do remember being pretty pissed when Samuel came out with those comments on changing our sport viewing culture.

Wasn't that the height of arrogance!

We like our sporting culture and we do not want it changed!

From what I gather dees01, no they didn't. I think we were a special case because we had games transferred from the MCG to Colonial as opposed to having it transferred from Optus.

Now all we need is some compensation for having to play at Optus in the first place!

I still can't believe you lot bitching and complaining about the place. I been there four times and have never had a problem getting in (and I'm from interstate). And before you start on that, realise that we in Adelaide, Sydney, Brisy and Perth have had to prebook tickets for the past decade. At Footy Park, they have 45,000 people at games and no problems with entry even though there are less entry points than Colonial. Get out of your comfort zones and get into the 21st Century. Live with it, Colonial Stadium is here to STAY!!!!

PS : Yes the MCG is absolutely bloody fantastic in the middle of winter when the wind is blowing and the temparture is 10 degrees. Been there done that and no thanks.

Yeah, well I've been to Football Park too; had to sit in a tiny block behind the goals in the worst conditions I've experienced. No freedom of movement, facilities that rivalled Kardinia Park, howling wind, nearly froze to death. And I can tell you from first hand experience that the MCG craps all over it.

Your problem with the MCG is that it employs a modern convenience that you may not be too familiar with. It's called civilisation. Takes a while to get used to, but we've managed over here. Perhaps treating fans like shit is the norm in South Australia. I've never hung around long enough to find out. We try to treat fans like human beings rather than cattle in Victoria. But, each to his own.

I would summarise as follows:

Best viewing and comfort : Colonial
Best atmosphere : Without a doubt the "G"
Best playing surface : Football Park
Most feral supporters: Any game involving Collingwood.

.

This is the main point people are complaining about. The way people are treated (mistreated?)at CS, with the most modern stadium in the world(?) people still have to line up for way too long often missing starts of games. Also the atmosphere at a ground has nothing to do with weather, seating or clean toilets its the people who make the game great. If your team is winning you could be playing on a cow paddock while its snowing and a gum tree the only place to take a leak, the atmosphere would be good.Even if your loosing as long as the supporters are still there shouting and not going home halfway in the third the atmosphere can still be great.
