If the umpires and AFL are going to make mistakes with this one, I'm OK with it if they err against the bloke dropping at the knees or lifting their arm. I have no sympathy for anyone who misses a few frees but has that as a 'skill' in their game.

Gotta stamp that crap out.

I just wish the AFL didn't fiddlefart about with it. Just come out and outright say that if umps see your arm jerk up around the time high contact is made then you're probably not going to get the free, even if you should, because the umpires aren't omniscient gods.

The AFL loves to protect the umpires, but half the things they say/do (or don't say/do) to protect them just make the situation worse. The rules and umpiring side of our game is pretty farcical.

It reminded me of the footy club meat raffle at the Broadbeach hotel. The footy club would sell tickets to all of the holiday makers and tourists then draw the prize. It amazingly always went to one of the locals. The probability of a tourist winning the prize was less than the odds of Tattslotto Division one.
Quoting myself here...

In the old Broadbeach International. Southport Footy club holds meat tray raffle. I was visiting a mate who played up there - his father was a club official in some capacity. We bought meat raffle tickets, as did everybdy else in the pub that evening due to the hard sell tactics used by the raffle ticket sellers (one for 50 cents or 3 for a dollar).

As the raffle winner was about to be drawn from the box, my mate's father grabbed the hand that was about to be dived in to fish out the winner (which of course, had a tightly folded ticket being secretly gripped between two fingers) and he reached in himself and chose a genuinely random ticket which he read out as the winner.

As my mate's father was an official at the club the players who orgnised the raffle just shut up - there wasn't anything they could do.

The scam was pretty much exposed for that night, but I'd say things went back to normal by the next night.

This was in about 1987 so if you bought a raffle ticket back in that era and you feel ripped off, then the statute of limitations has expired and there's nothing you can do.

Same for the guy who didn't win the B&F even though I am convinced I had given him enough votes.

We can be guaranteed that the greater access we get to slow motion replays, the worse the umpiring will become…

So Mathew’s was sickened and couldn’t sleep by Ginnavans non free kick.
Wonder what he thought of Ben’s concussion and non free kick?

These guys with their vested interest, sheesh!
Leigh Matthews?

The bloke who king hit more players than anyone else while I've been alive?

I know he played in a different era with different values, etc. However, his lack of self-awareness is staggering. Can you just imagine Lethal lying awake at night, feeling sick to his stomach over that incident? 🤣 His wife wiping poor little Leigh’s forehead…

WTF! what a stupid quote, nothing like quoting the obvious! tell me how this statement constitutes anything remotely close to journalism?

Had five touches on the weekend.

Without ‘the technique’ he’s not kicking many goals.
got a feeling his fire will burn out as fast as aidie macadams did.

Oh look for his sake I hope he can stop doing the stupid ducking and play the game like most others do and have a decent career, I hate that it's his go to move every time, get doesn't even try anything else like break tackles evade, dish of the give.
The rules change to stop explotation and if you stop paying the free he will stop doing it.

Koshari, how dare you compare out and out freak talent to a one trick pony.

I made the very poor decision to read the article, mostly seems to be just laying the ground work so that if we do get Clarkson, that rather than lauding it as a win for us, Barrett can switch the narrative to how far we have been bent over in negotiations because we are so desperate.

This paragraph though;
Where North's biggest negatives right now revolve around the degrees of brokenness related to the past four years of poor decision-making, GWS's major problem is the bursting salary cap that is carrying massive contracts with players who may already be past their best, and which will also need to shed at least $800,000 of commitments in the very next trade period.

I know we've made our share of mistakes (and Barrett can't resist mentioning them as well as a few he makes up himself) but how can a "bursting salary cap" and the need to "shed at least $800,000...next trade period" also not be anything other the result of "years of poor decision-making"? Makes it sound like it was caused by something beyond the Giants' control. We're a complete mess, deserve nothing as it is all of our own terrible doing, but poor GWS having to deal with an unfortunate "bursting salary cap" they couldn't possibly have been expected to anticipate.

This on the league's own website, I know it's nothing new and no surprise, but this constant bias...

Or Lindsay copping that crap for years after the commentators and media went after him.

Ginnavan doesn’t get 1 free and it's the end of the world.

he gets to have it both ways. Either we sign Clarkson and it's an 'i told you so' or we don't and it's 'see I said north would have to meet his demands obviously they couldn't get it done'
