Are you telling me he was critical of a North effort?

From SEN - The big talking points and questions out of Round 13

North Melbourne’s midfield is going to be scary in a couple of years

They might have lost 11 straight games, but positive signs are starting to show at Arden Street.

The jewel in the crown is becoming the side’s midfield with top-five picks George Wardlaw and Harry Sheezel beginning to flourish on-ball.

Just as Wardlaw and Sheezel are showing their wares, the often-forgotten pick No. 3 from the 2020 draft Will Phillips is also showing why he was so highly rated as a youngster.

Add in the likes of Luke Davies-Uniacke and Jy Simpkin who might just be the best of the lot and still have plenty of footy ahead of them, and you’re looking at perhaps the competition’s most exciting midfield unit projecting five years down the line.

While it’ll take some time to get there, you get the feeling it’ll all be worth it if these young guns keep tracking in this upward fashion.

Respect to Jy, but if he ends up being the best of the lot, Sheezel and Wardlaw will have failed to develop.
Jy gets the ball in traffic, pulls off some bullshit step into space and feeds the ball to a teammate and everyone is all "Meh, its just Jy."

Wardlaw does something half as spectacular and the board, the commentators ... the whole fricken comp drools then wets its pants over him.

But they are all incredible players and even now no one can really say which of the six or seven - Jy, LDU, TT, WAP, POwell, Sheeze or Warlord - will be the best.

I can. It's Wardlaw.

I hope that there are still people debating which of them is the best in 6 or 7 years from now because they are all genuine champs.

From The Age - Tigers believe, Dons’ mids step up: Key takeouts round 13

The Giants have unearthed a ruckman in Kieren Briggs. That is another major positive in a season that is laying the foundation for a solid era under Adam Kingsley. Their win over the competitive Kangaroos was built on the back of usual suspects Toby Greene, Stephen Coniglio, Callan Ward and Tom Green plus Briggs, who has been a revelation in the past month. They have a smattering of emerging youngsters who are building experience and a solid defence. Hanging on to Harry Himmelberg must be their biggest priority as losing him would slow progress. The Kangaroos have the right youngsters but the time has come to wean themselves off experienced players as they appear to have done in the case of star midfielder Ben Cunnington.

He might hit the odd target but Aaron Hall’s sub par efforts when he does not have the ball can no longer be tolerated from an experienced player in a team that must become future focused. Little will be lost from giving youngsters a chance in his role. - Peter Ryan

Which youngsters? Goater is injured, Bergman is already in the team and Perez stunk last time out. It's a lazy trope when our half back stocks are really not that great.

Could Powell play it?

Half back has been an empty void for a long time, even macmillan and Atley were useless. You need someone like Wardlaw off the half back line, someone who can be in a contest, not shit scared of contact and someone who can use the ball.

Half backs are arguably the most important players to get right. Majority of play comes through the half back line.

We need to address this at this years draft. Must happen. If that means trading down our top pick to snare two x half backs then so be it.

Also, if Miles Bergman hasn’t signed i’d be going hammer and ****ing tongs after him.

What you say is reasonable, but I remember when Carlton traded in Zac Williams and Adam Saad in as half back flankers, the talk here was that Carlton was spending far too much of their salary cap on half back flankers. What do you think we would need to offer Bergmann to get him to the club?
