The 'keep politics (or different cultures) out of sport!' people only ever really mean 'keep the politics that I disagree with out of sport'.

They never have a problem with Anzac Day (and similar military connections), or Good Friday, or the Blue Ribbon Cup, or when individuals like former Liberal Premier Jeff Kennett become a Club President, etc etc.

But when someone like Dr Sonja Hood becomes a club president, all of a sudden it's vitally important to keep politics out of sport!

Curious.

The same halfwits will be asking for more recognition of jan 26 while bashing out keep footy about footy.

globalists are those in corporate and poltical power that use their wealth to gain further power and wealth by manipulating global events. They do this most motably through the military and pharmceutical indutrial complexes.
Oooooh Boogyman gunna getcha

It’s pretty easy to understand why Lunar New Year and Australia Day are different things but it just gives people an excuse to be racist about Asia and China while at the same time not understanding it’s not Australia Day but the specific date that causes an issue. * there’s some racist morons in the world.

Tef, Faff ******* and John “tag every famous NMFC player on twitter” banging on sound like the morons they are. If you are posting Xi and CCP credit score memes you’re in the same bucket

Don’t lose your sense of humour over this stuff mate - Ligma is celebrating Chinese New Tear and just making a joke;)

it is curious because it's the exactly the same from both sides of the political or cultural spectrum. both sides are so self righteous that it's impossible to include both simultaneously. a perfect example was the muslim player refusing to play during pride round, it exposed the hypocrisy of the supposedly 'inclusive' side of society. that 'inclusive' side of society are also the loudest supporters of censorship.

i think it's pretty simple logic, if the club acknowledges the date of another nation/culture, it should acknowledge other dates. acknowledge every culturally significant date or none.

Stralia **** yeah!

You also can’t seem to grasp the fact that you’re comparing apples and oranges.

And ‘culturally significant’ it acknowledges christmas, rememberance day, anzac day..

Yet you’re upset that they refuse to acknowledge the ‘culturally significant’ public holiday that has been celebrated for hundreds… sorry I mean tens of years.. who ****ing cares dude. Find something important and worthwhile to care about.

I'm not upset, but you're a fool if you can't understand why others are upset.

You're further proof that you think you're on the correct side and the other is wrong. You're both a stupid as each other.

What side is that exactly? I don't agree wholeheartedly with either side of today's political spectrum. I'm politically homeless.

the military and pharmaceutical industrial complexes and the fact only 2 political factions have been in power for the last century are bankrolled by the richest and most powerful coroporations on earth are facts, not political.

so i'm on the side of facts?

To understand why some supporters are annoyed at the club's celebration of Chinese New Year you need to factor in that it comes just two weeks after the club refused to celebrate Australia Day.

No. Wait. It was worse than that. They actually scolded people for daring to celebrate our national day.

The club tweeted that it was a day of "sadness".

And, to add insult to injury, the club tweeted that in order to keep "the conversation" respectful, they had disabled comments. Well, it's not much of a "conversation" when no-one else is allowed to speak!

It's entirely understandable that some people would be miffed at this.

The club disses on Australian culture while celebrating Chinese culture.

Is it really too much to ask that we be allowed to enjoy footy without having progressive politics shoved down our throats?

And winning the occasional game of football would be nice too. Which reminds me, that's actually North Melbourne's core business. And we've not done it very well at all for the best part of a decade.

When a football club tweets about football, every single person who wears the blue and white can get behind it and cheer. When the club strays from football and starts playing around in the weeds of progressive politics, they alienate many supporters. The same would happen if they started tweeting right-wing political statements.

So the message from upset fans is pretty simple and entirely sensible. North Melbourne should stick to football. God knows it's an area with room for plenty of improvement.

Go Roos!
Our club captain comes from a culture that is alienated by Australia Day. Would you expect him to shut up or be able to speak his piece cos that's what he did.

...and bringing civilisation to over half the world, but i guess higher standards of living don't count because 'colonialisation'. obviously many people would rather the first nations of colonialised lands still live in the stone age and continue dying from starvation and basic disease...

it's quite interesting how in recent times those so triggered by colonisation are also the same people cheering on facists globalists to remove basic civil liberties from everyone. f*ck the british for forcing higher standards of living on people but yay for the globalists forcing and profiteering from a lockdowns and vaccines due to a virus they created.
Errr? Is that you Snake?

I would say that rather than using the term “civilisation”, the term “colonial rule” would have been a better fit and the use of pejorative terms suggesting uncolonised people to be “Stone Age primitives” and suggesting that civilisation colonisation delivers ”a higher standard of living” must mean the colonists were good guys ‘ey?

Don't be stupid. The fossil fuel industry is as powerful as anything else.

It’s good of the club to state Happy Lunar New Year on its social media platforms. I think all the Chinese players that have represented the club….past, present & emerging would have deeply appreciated it :thumbsu:

Who gives a sh!t about aus day and the first fleet. It’s not like they paved the way for everything we have and take for granted in today’s day to day life. Including the game of Australian Rules Football.

Find me a single example of someone on the "inclusive" side of society who supported Haneen Zreika's decision not to play in pride round.

Old man conservatives ****ing love to point to hypocrisy that simply doesn't exist. Nobody on the left supports conservative religious bigotry.

a higher standard of living isn't good?

colonists in comparison to those before them in less developed societies weren't too bad if their are still first nations that exist today. before those times it would've been complete genocide, so it was relatively progressive for the 1700's. you think tribes within australia didn't compoletely wipe out enemy tribes? or do you think australia was utopia before the english arrived?
