Not having a go at you here - it seems everyone is doing it - but lumping these two together is doing JZ a big disservice.

Jack is simply at the end of his commendable NMFC career. Kingy showing him trailing his man as an example of poor defending is somewhat unfair. Pace and acceleration have never been Jack's strong suit, and in the twilight of his career, he ain't turning that around. I loved what he brought to the role earlier in the year when he was plugging holes, killing the contest, and drilling kicks.

The other employee should be at the apex of his career, in terms of age and experience. If there was any ceiling to be reached, it would be now.

That's fair.

It's just so awful. Isn't Ziebs contracted for another year? We are going to need him in defence for one more year

So pleased to see TT and LDU getting highlighted. Two of our most highly skilled players, who together have the greatest capacity to influence the course of a match, but who don't show enough desperation.

LDU has begun to show confidence in his capacity; that's great. But he and TT have the potential to be anything... if they put in 100%, which personally, I don't think they do, for whatever reasons.

I often think back to that 'truth telling' (Leading Teams?) meeting that Geelong had in 2007, possibly after we'd beaten them at the Cattery. It is alleged that Steve Johnson gave GAJ a rocket, telling him that he was the most skilled player on the list, but that he was wasting it through lack of effort, and that the team was suffering as a result.

'The boys didn't go hard enough' is the upshot of that - Is that the best they can come up with in their 2 minute segment?

We've been beyond putrid for 4 years and all they have is go a bit harder lads.

Waste of a program.
That’s where it starts and ends - effort! And we can’t even deliver on that! What else could you say about this team at the moment.

There would be less than half a dozen players on our list who are intrinsically motivated.

The rest rely on others to get them up to compete.
That’s my biggest concern.

We’ve essentially been a laughing stock for much of the last four years and I don’t see any sign of ‘enough’s enough’ with our basic effort.

It was definitely after we had beaten them.

We woke up a sleeping giant after that win and caused the demise of Richmond LOL.

2 of those 6 would be Wardlaw and Sheezel. Absolute goers with high standards. My biggest concern is that they lose that because almost the rest of our list doesn't have the inherent desire to operate at that level.

But what's the solution? It runs a bit deeper than "try a bit harder boys"
Buckley was bang on, I reckon. That caution is a symptom, not the problem. The problem is much deeper, and it goes to why we haven't actually improved that much this year. But nobody in the media wants to put any time into that conversation but it's easier to pick out a few soft efforts to fill a 90 second slot in the program.

These half arsed efforts are shameful. Embarrassing.

The sad thing is, they get exposed for it in the media and then put in a decent effort the following week, but it never lasts. So superficial. It’s an absolute joke.
Our poor teams of the past at least were all known for shinboner spirit
This lot can’t even bring effort, in fact their squibbing it when it’s their turn
More and more will stop watching with efforts like this

It’s what I expected this regime to demand. I’m hoping that demand is coming

It is what we expected this regime would demand. Too many standards are being walked past still it appears. From the outside at least. Doesn’t matter if it is the players or the coaching staff, it’s incumbent this is no longer negotiable. Perhaps it will take a pre season after the honeymoon year to really starting weeding. Because those efforts aren’t making a lawn we can be proud of.

FWIW Goldstein is keen to go around for 1 more year if North will have him.

He is but he’s resigned to the fact that this is it for him at North after a chat with coaches mid last week. He left that with the understanding that we’re moving on without him in the 1’s and he’ll be playing VFL as we turn attention to the future.

He does still want to play on though of course, having five kids and also completely rebuilding his house, if anyone will take him. In his perfect world that’d be North of course.
