IF ...

while he has been an AFL coach, Alastair Clarkson has approached umpires on a plane, and on other occasions abused and publicly criticised umpires, sworn at an official at a kids' game, abused a couple of VFL players during a match, got in a scuffle with a Power fan (who had goaded him), threatened an opposition player post-match, not to mention regular confrontations and choice words with media

THEN ...

his rap sheet is terrible for someone who is a coaching icon, about to turn 56, and who should know better. Seemingly every time he's caught, he apologises and moves on to the next skirmish, while those around him mop up. As happened again this week, after his clash with St Kilda players at Moorabbin. One word he used in that exchange was inexcusable, and surely no one at this club would walk past its use, in any forum nor under any circumstance. In my eyes, Clarkson deserves a match-day sanction from the AFL. But he will probably only be fined, and get to apologise yet again and move on to his next encounter.

IF ...

Jimmy Webster's hit on Jy Simpkin was horrendous ...

THEN ...

he rightly got a seven-week ban. But everyone deserves forgiveness, particularly those who unreservedly apologise, own their offending actions, and cop their hefty punishment without complaint. Hope he gets back immediately in round eight, and that everyone backs off from smashing his character.
hard to believe both paragraphs were from the same author. hypocracy? Much

It’s just been too long/too rare, because there have been times when we have made Marvel rock. No lack of atmosphere when Zurhaar kicked the winner against the Tigers.

Last year had the final siren in R1 and Sheezel's final quarter goal against Sydney. In my section at least, we all went ****ing mental both times and the soullessness of the place disappeared

People on here are also delusional regarding how big we are. We simply can't attract a decent crowd off our own back, Good Friday being the marquee exception. Playing at the G would only amplify that fact

Its hard to draw a crowd when you play Saturday Arvos, Sunday late arvos and have been stinking it up.

I cannot go to the footy when its Saturday Arvo. It shits me, kids sport, work. Thered be thousands that would go that can’t.

When North owned Friday nights the crowds were pretty decent.

Took the risk. Created the greatest opportunity that the game had ever experienced by doing so and the AFL did what?

Times have a-changed, my friend. Unless we were perpetually dominant, that outcome was inevitable

Ditto that time we ran the ball from the back pocket and Jack Ziebell kicked the winner with seconds left on the clock. That was an away game but still we blew the roof off.

Against Western? So good.

I really like Marvel. It's a great stadium for spectators.
I’ve said it before, but I love seeing the North supporters streaming across the bridge from West Melbourne - it’s nice and close to our heartland.

This point relates to us and drawing a crowd.

And Docklands might be easier to drive to and is more convenient for some.

And we might draw a small crowd.

Irregardless of that - the G is a better ground than Docklands for atmosphere.

If we’re up and about, playing good footy against the best teams as we should be, then I want to see us playing under lights on a Friday at the G moreso than anywhere else.

Apologies if I've missed it (I haven't been on BF much, lately) but has this story been posted anywhere, please?View attachment 1924099
I was there at so many of the games where Jimmy and Phil copped heaps. Seemed anything you could say to put a player off was ok and stayed on the field (that seemed to be what made it ok). The crowd were even worse. Seems in those days you could get away with it. Times change, thankfully, and you realise things you said then are very wrong now. Not sure about legal action for hurt 40 years ago. How do you prove who said what and when? But Jimmy and Phil copped so much - I heard plenty in the era.
