He doesn’t and he isn’t. But he was so focused on defending himself that he avoided a reasonable question - does he ever worry that even if he isn’t going down that road, his hot controversialist takes do seem to draw out some people who cross the line?
Danni_Benson I understand the point that you stated above and agree that you are right but as H2H says, the comments by Cornes opened the door and the vermin seized on the opportunity to pounce.

Instead of declaring that he was disgusted and condemning the stuff that was posted after he told his story he declared that it wasn't his fault that other people had nasty things to say. Trouble is, his performance in the media is based on being controversial, nit-picking and generally slagging off clubs and people to generate reactions in a nasty manner. And that's just what happened - he has to at least acknowledge that.

But as for Lloyd. I have nothing but contempt for him after his sniveling comments. Even Hutchinson and Wilson chose to avoid meaningful response what he had to say.

I totally agree with you that women have always had involvement in football and other sports and anyone who denies that just isn't dealing with the truth. I'm pleased that North had been progressive and selected people who bring talent and obvious skills into senior roles and that gender wasn't a barrier. Every football club ever has been happy to take the money raised by the kiosk, the raffles and other events, happy to have someone prepared to wash jumpers, socks and shorts, happy to have mothers taking kids to training and matches etc. but how many have had female presidents and CEOs?

Go North!!

I know I'm not always as clear as H2H on these matters. I wish my earlier message was as succinct.

I just caught the end of Dwayne Russell referencing an interview Ben McKay did on SEN this morning whereby Ben alluded to the fact that Essendon’s senior players put more effort in than ours ie more professional. Anyone catch it? I’m interested!

I didn’t hear it directly but did hear Dwayne referencing it recently. Apparently McKay said the * senior players took things like watching films far more seriously and led by example. He was surprised how devoted to personal and team development they’ve been compared to his experience at Arden St.

Like OF my first thought was “you could have set the standards you twat” and secondly “we know our senior players are the ones letting the side down” and finally “GAGF’d moneybags!”

Correct. He did allude to senior players at * are more professional. Confirms to me that our club is devoid of any real leadership on field. I think we need to get someone in like Caleb Daniel who not only is a high talent but always goes 100 per cent. Experienced and probably gettable.

Would love some media games over the next 3 weeks.

‘Nick, what did you think of Charlie Combens game on the weekend?’

‘It’s great to finally have a hard, aggressive, contested marking tall back in the side - we’ve lacked that over the last few years. It’s been a gaping hole for us since Robbie Tarrant left that we’ve not been able to fill’

Not sure Caleb is the answer. He was part of the 'party' group that Dunkley was so desperate to escape, Bevo has lost patience with him, his form has really dropped off, and he has never demonstrated leadership skills on or off the field.

On the bright side, we may nearly put the number 1 pick beyond doubt this week.....no need for tanking.

This'll be the year without a "generational" talent and we'll trade well down the order again to guys like Perez and Mahoney.

Coming from a bloke who routinely ****ed up no-pressure 15m kicks, I find that a bit rich. The bloke was a part of the problem, not someone hampered by our professionalism lol

I always find this women's role in football quite bizarre.

As a kid, I was taken to the footy by my mum and nan. My mum always took me to my junior footy and stayed and encouraged (read yell at me).

I had a female coach in the U13's in schoolboy footy (good footy school too) way back in the 80's!

My take on the whole thing: I agree with Cornes that his criticism isn't on a gender basis, and also agree with him that the question shouldn't be asked of him since Sonja pointed that out. BUT really was Caro baiting him into his response which came across to me anyway ....."Hey Sonja you're being soft by quitting social media, thats what it is and what do you expect, look at the crap that the Channel 7 team cop"

For the record I no longer comment on my area of professional expertise on X because of the halfwit clueless armchair experts that don't have a clue and not interested in facts. Absolutely nothing to be gained from it, and I can see why Sonja would quit it too. And again I think its just gutter journalism trying to make Sonja look weak for quitting X.

Thats amusing Danni given the he himself was one of the senior players left at North!

Appreciate all the comments and insight on this and especially from Danni_Benson and Hearts to hearts

What annoyed me about the segment is that Kornes didn't just refrain from condemning the gender-based shi trucks on Twitter; he basically denied that there was any gender basis to their shi truckery and effectively said that Sonja should harden up as they all cop it on Twitter.

It's his right to deny his role on the gender-based shi truckery but he is wrong to say that it doesn't exist.

He was 25 we had a list full of kids, had he wanted to change that he could have, by being what the change he wanted. I wonder how Goldy would take that because any criticism of North senior players surely would at least in part be pointed towards the guy who was the oldest player on our list last year?

Reeks of hands up I don't need to take accountability for my actions it was everyone else.

Brad Scott will suit him down to the ground.
He's probably right, but he's part of it.

These 24-26yo's are the one's who need to own it and change it. There's enough of them.

No wonder we lack onfield leadership. Every campaigner just looks around for someone else to do the heavy lifting.

A 19 yo Harry Sheezel stands out like dogs balls on this sea of

Maybe they do. But seriously Ben. You were at the club for 7 years. In a team screaming out for leadership, why didn't you step up?

I'm torn on McKay's comments tbh. On the one hand, I'm sick of ex-players taking these potshots and absolving any responsibility they had to work harder when they were at the club. On the other hand, I've no doubt that what he said is true and it reflects really poorly on the recent and current senior players. Just an absolutely putrid team culture.

The only good thing is that these mistakes are so elementary, you’d have to think they can be fixed. Watching LDU make two ridiculous mistakes in the space of give seconds, that turned a near certain goal to us into a Geelong goal ten seconds later, is a case in point.

If it's an indicator of how our players respond and perform under pressure though how do we fix that? We can't have a playing group full of downhill skiers that always need everything 100% on their terms to be able to live up to their potential.

I wouldn’t watch or listen to any of these media w***ers if we were sitting on top of the ladder undefeated. The fact some of you put yourself through it when we are currently a basket case is completely insane. Do you honestly think there is going to be something good said about our club on there at the moment. Their whole shtick is making mountains out of molehills.

Watch a First Crack or even on the couch (don’t mind Bucks and Lyon), who actually use some decent data and vision to show you what each club is trying to do and why it’s either working, or not working. Not always positive, but not always negative either.

If I got into a lift with Kane Cornes, Craig Hutchison, Caroline Wilson and Matthew Lloyd I'd press the button to get off at the next floor and take the stairs. I'm certainly not going to passively sit down for an hour a listen to everything they've got to say.

It reflects poorly on all of them. Him and Goldstein included.
