I tried telling the main board 3 years ago proper priority picks - the same as just about every other team has gotten - should have been done and we were shouted down. Unfortunately now we've hit a spiral where we've lost the few talented seniors we had faster than they could be replaced and we were at a low base when we started. The league have made this mess much worse than it needed to be because ultimately they were oh so confident we could crawl out from our hole and re establish ourselves firmly in the 8-14 range that they're happy for us to live in.

They didn't want us to improve, they just wanted us to not be an absolute laughing stock but in their arrogance they have miscalculated the impacts of the slow bleeding of real elite talent we had remaining (ie. Cunners, Goldy etc). We were clearly a mile off it and heading towards more pain but they are so set in their ways of gifting expansion clubs and handing out zones like candy that they didn't realise that football teams don't run on PR and bullshit - they thought they could throw a couple of what were the equivalent of mid second rounders before the expansion teams and we'd just bounce back to mediocrity because we've been doing it so long. Other teams such as Melbourne and Carlton were getting massively over picks at their worst and it was still a huge slog, Brisbane were gifted picks a few seasons ago whilst a significantly better team than we are.

There’s a monumental issue if we’re talking about dropping senior players at this stage of Clarkson’s tenure.
By now there should be crystallisation of whatever he’s trying to implement and tangible improvement from the vets. I’m not seeing buy-in. Not even seeing effort.

I think it's as simple as they're no longer good enough. The regression of senior players is dumb founding.

LoL. 100%. I recall a news story about an incident at a place where I worked and they reported that a War Room had been set up... Well we had incidents coming out of our ears and there was a permanent War Room that was run every week without fail for about 8 years that I know of. Then it was renamed because to the new management, War Room sounded like it might create criticism of the systems they brought in. Of course, the new meeting had exactly the same agenda and we still had incidents coming out of our ears - only now there were twice as many.
