I don't mind Trading Day on Fox at 5pm every day and then repeated 17 times to fill the evening schedule before showing the GF again. It's the whole day's trading summarised in 30mins. Except every day they get to around 20mins and run out of stuff and having to fill. One day it was panel members trying to remember the biggest coach spray they ever saw. Yesterday it was Dal Santo talking AFLW. Once it was a 5min ad for the Tszyu fight. Often it's Ben Dixon believing he's funny.

So, answer me this as a person who hasn't ever listened to 5 consecutive seconds of live Trade Radio.

If a show dedicated to wrapping up the day's trading, can't find 30mins of content every day, what do they do on Trade Radio??
The short answer is ads, and every interviewee is asked four or five times as many inane questions as they otherwise should be. It becomes painfully obvious and awkward that the game is to keep the talent talking for as long as humanly possible, relevance and public interest be damned.

Why do people listen then?

The past few days have been a final act of grand nuffism, at first they went apesh*t because it was perceived we were getting special treatment, and when quizzed about how most of their clubs got some of the best players of their generation for free as priority picks they insisted, with a straight face mind you, that those situations are completely different because that was simply how the rules were back then. Now we end up getting something in complete compliance with the rules they way they currently are, the reaction is even worse 😆 makes me wish I didn't love football as much as I do, because the type of nuff-biscuits that you end up sharing this hobby with becomes pretty disheartening after a while. They just jump on whatever inaccurate bollocks is floating around the ether and happily and unquestioningly roll with it and collectively repeat it. I reckon there are millipedes in my backyard that are more capable of flexible and abstract thought than half the plonkers in footy circles.
Perfectly captured.

Their problem is that the rules should only help them.

Swans supporters are the best.

Too apathetic to stop their club being killed and then resurrected as an AFL marketing tool.

That's that bloods culture in full flight.

Tell ya what, this is a bloody good crack at our lineup for next year. Goater's omission is their only error. Seen a couple of fans of other teams say that their iterations are pretty bang on too. I hate to think what's in store for humanity if Fox are getting things spot on

I reckon Kal Dawson probably has first dibs in defence over Toby Pink, and Stephens would have to be doing a lot right to start over Shiels, but yeah, it's a good crack at the 23.

Oh boy. Changes his mind quite a bit does Damo. Says the entire off season he thinks north will try to draft Reid anyway and then does this awful ‘I agree with you, I think they take 2,3 they have no business taking a top pick’

i wouldn't say Bigoa Nyuon was a "key" off season in, more a speculative project type. but otherwise most of the improvement will come form organic improvement, still reckon 6 to 8 wins is our ceiling if all goes right.

Hold the presses. Team who has entered the last round as a live wooden-spoon chance in 5 of the last 7 seasons hasn't got the list to get too far next year?????? Whoa. Mind. Blown.

Interested about the savage list cuts too. What, so we were supposed to keep a heap of the players who just got us second-last, last, last and second-last so that we could go flying up the ladder in 2024? Or maybe, just maybe, despite Barrett knowing more than they do, the club thinks it's going to take a few years.

Even for Barrett, I can't believe how incredibly dumb this is. I lasted 4mins. How does the AFL allow this rubbish on their own website?

Also the players over 25 thing. Do we hold onto a 35 yo ruckman? Do we force Cunners to go around another year even though his body is failing him, Hall was in the VFL half the year. Do we keep plodders like Howe and Turner on the list just because they are over 25?

No North Melbourne supporter* should book September holidays in 2026. Damian Barrett can please himself.

*With the obvious exception of our interstate and overseas brothers and sisters who should of course be booking trips to Melbourne.

Because four minutes is enough for you to see the ads.

The age profile thing shits me no end.

If the age profile of a list was important, Geelong wouldn't have won a flag in 2022 - 10 of their premiership side were 30 or older, and the youngest was 21. The average age was 28.

Meanwhile, the Baby Bombers had 8 players younger than Geelong's youngest in 2022, and only one player aged 30+. The average age was 24.

Richmond in 2017 had one teenager and none of them had turned 30 yet. Average age 25.

The one thing they had in common was quality players all across the field and being coached well. Just get elite talent in the door, whether they're 20 or 30 is not that important.

"Savage" list cut????? Who that was cut would get a game at another club? And "Clarko himself under enormous pressure?" Please.

Totally agree. I think the only time age demographics come into play is when the age profile is old but the team is firmly entrenched in the bottom 8 - pretty clear then that a lost overhaul is required.

Per GR's list of players changes since 2020, here's all the players that have departed our club (either by our choice or their own) and gone to another:

Ben Brown - Fair play, he did help Melbourne win a flag but has since been dogged by knee injuries.
Shaun Higgins/Robbie Tarrant - Left for a tilt at a flag, turns out both were largely cooked (each played about 20 games total in 2 years for their new club)
Majak Daw/Trent Dumont/Sam Durdin/Tom Campbell/Jed Anderson - were recruited as essentially "break glass in case of emergency" experienced depth that rarely/never played for their new club.
Mason Wood - turned himself into a good player for the Saints, kudos to him. Delisting/change of scenery was the kick in the backside he needed to start delivering all the teased promise on a consistent basis.
Jason Horne-Francis - not our choice to get rid of him
Todd Goldstein - 35 year old who was still our best ruckman this year but has only got one more year left (side note: He looks abysmal in red and black)
Ben McKay - Pick 3. That is all.

He takes McDonald spot

And on top of this, who was delisted, never bobbed up anywhere else, but could still be deemed unlucky? Or who retired well before their time was up.

That 45 players have come off our list since 2020 is an indictment on the 2020 list, not the 2024 list.

We've been trash for a while, and have deserved some kickings, but I wish there was a NMFC person in the media who would call this sort of garbage out whenever it's raised.

Yup Mason the only one who was "cut" has had any sort of meaningful career since. Doubt any of this years "Savage cut" will find their way onto another list.

Just submitted my leave request, nothing like a bit of positive visualisation.
