Interesting. Just hope they don't vote any avg player that goes as "top echelon"

They won't.

The trouble is someone like Campbell Brown. To most on here he is a whingy girly man. To Hawthorn he is a versitile player who can be thrown forward or back as needed. Is he our best backman? No. Is he our best forward? No. Do Hawthorn people rate him? Yes. Who could replace him? No one at this point.

Would he be "top echelon" - no way breathing because only we think he is worth anything.

Same for Geelong fans - no one in the competition comes close to G.Ablett, yet all they will recieve is two 18 year olds who may or may not be any good.

I'm not a Cats fan by any stretch but that's crap.

Can they define a "top echelon" player? Franga's example here is a good one. Hawks rate the filthy bitch slapping Brown, very few outside do.

And the fact you have to nominate at the start of the season whether you'll use the pick in that draft post season ending is crap. If it is looking a thin draft without much outside the first round based on the form of the 17 year olds you might nominate. What then happens if the quality 17 year olds then either don't come on or suffer career threatening injuries, and no other players make a big surge in their development? You've likely wasted your compensation on spuds, or players who's likelihood of being as good as that you lost to GC is extremely low.

Umm, how can Carlton and Melbourne possibly tank effectively if they don't know what they're tanking for at the start of the season?

Ricky Petterd is another on GC's radar. He has shown what he is capable of, has a lot of untapped potential. Unfortunately a punctured lung and a shoulder injury have held him back. He's got plenty of years left as a player. How will the AFL be able to compensate fairly for players such as Brown and Petterd?

This is a bullshit rule. Geelong dont deserve anything for a non contracted player.
Rules were made ages ago 1 free player with no contract from each club. But no lets change the rules so the best team in the comp benefits. bollocks
