Where's Kooter?:D

He'll be an absolute star and you won't need to sign anyone else next year because he's so awesome..... basically I'm saying stay away from Sam Reid!

I would be interested in knowing hows GWS actually retain it's young starts in the next 3 to 5 years

$6m over 6 years is a huge amount of coin out of your cap to pay a small bodied mid and with so many early picks in this years draft who will want to be paid market rate when they come out of contract I just see some real retension challenges ahead especially considering the GWS cap will come back into line with other clubs

Don't get me wrong, congrats to GWS and Scully however such a large contract does not come without enormous risk and knock on challenges

They can afford it by front loading the contracts of the established players signed. The reports are that Scully is getting over $2,000,000 in year one. Ward, Davis and Palmer would be in the same boat.

All the kids drafted will be on minimum contracts whilst the old heads and spare parts players will also be on small deals.

he has a degenerative knee and is a horrible kick of the footy that wont impact games.

Thankyou GWS for saving us for paying over the odds for him.

Such is life.

I noticed Sheedy said more announcements could be expected Thurs/Fri. With the Saints and Bombers being eliminated from finals, do you think the next announcement might relate to a player from one of these clubs?

I think that's to do with the retired players, so Power,Chad and maybe Brogan

Oh yeah stay away from Sam Reid

Can you really blame Tom Scully? He could possibly re-injure his knee so taking the money is the best option he could have done.

If he'd stayed with Melbourne and had a career ending knee injury, we wouldn't have just let him be poor.

I'm curious, how does one become a fan of a club that hasn't kicked a footy in anger?

I support the Lions only a little now. I hate what the club has turned into. Voss as coach, getting Fevola and even thinking of trading Rischitelli/Bradshaw. And most of all, getting rid of the Fitzroy Lion. Even more disgracful that players like Power are now being forced to retire from the Lions too. The Lions I supported as a kid are long gone. I loved those Lions, but not this one. Also if I knew how the Brisbane Lions were created when I picked them as "my team" (A year or 2 before glory days) when I was a kid in primary school, I almost certainly wouldn't have supported them (RIP Fitzroy)

Been waiting all my life for a club for Western Sydney/Riverina/ACT. All of that is the Giants territory now. I've always hated it how people say the area doesn't deserve a team or it can't work or how the RL faithful say no one will care...but it can work and people do care. Sure it will be a Giant mission in the first few years. But it will work!

Welcome to the Giants, Tom! Scully-Ward-Coniglio-Shiel-Treloar-Whitfield (Next years draft) will be a fantastic midfield in 4-6 years

Certainly the happiest Tommy Scully has looked for a couple of years. Free of the mediocrity that is the MFC. Today was simply a dee-lightful decision!

melbourne tanked for years to get high picks they derserve all the shit they gettin now sucked in demon homers

When MFC fans were laughing it up and doing the fake cheers for opposition teams during those tanking games it never occurred to them those fake cheers would one day turn into real tears.

WTF! Been in this world long, Chum? What a stupid naive thing to post on the GWS board. Oh, by the way, who's "we"?

You!?

Funny how Melbourne fans views of Scully as a player have instantly changed. One day he is the next superstar of the game, the next he is crappy player who can't kick who should have never have been drafted and is about to have both legs amputated because of his knees.

My view hasnt changed.

Have you actually watched him play?

he is a horrific kick of the footy, cant shake a tag and hes a midget as well. Not worth 500K a season let alone over a million.

More Pinheadness. I just spent an entertaining, if not simply head-shaking 30 minutes, reading the MFC board. There seems more than a little anger about GWS doing Club Mediocrity such a big favour in "paying over the odds" for a player that apparently has a crook knee, is a lousy kick, and can't influence games.

Go figure.

This crap is all over this site. Old players retire or get asked to retire, that what happens and will happen again. Luke Power could no doubt go on at the Lions, but they're at the stage where they need to look further ahead and start giving other guys more time in the middle. It's good list management and that's footy.

The club is bigger than the player and Power will be remembered as a Lions champion. He's topping up his retirement fund at GWS.

You don't like how the Brisbane Lions merged with Fitzroy? But you support GWS who has just poached a centrepiece of the the oldest club in the land.

Yet you guys want 2 first round picks for someone who is supposedly crap......

Loosing a player is one thing, but loosing a football club like Fitzroy is another. If you think the two are about the same loss then you are insane

The guy can play. Good speed, seriously good engine, however while he doesn't have much problem finding the footy, he's tiny and gets pushed away easily. Kicking can only improve, but beyong 30 metres its been awful. He's been a turnover merchant for two years.

From the HUN on Schwab:
"He added the Demons had overcome numerous setbacks in recent years and would get through this one."
Really? Being tipped to get in the 8 and failing, getting embarrassed in Geelong, knee-jerk coach sacking. Sure looks like you're getting over those setbacks.

So now he's a good player? What's with you Melbourne fans. Good-Bad-Good-Bad-Good-Bad. Can't have it both ways. He is one or the other
