AFL Club
Hawthorn
Other Teams
Man U, Canucks and 49ers
I found this quite interesting so thought a few others might as well.

http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/players/S/Shaun_Burgoyne.html

Key points for mine are:
  • Has averaged 16.1 touches per game throughout his career
  • Averages 1.1 goals per game
  • 2007 was his stella year, averaging 19 touches a game and kicking 39 goals
  • Hasn't had a 30 possession game since round 1, 2006
Anyway, interesting to see what others think.

Look, I haven't gone through the stats, but I doubt highly that Bateman has racked up many 30+ possie games, but is as crucial to side than anyone. Posessions are useless unless they go to the oppostion. Burgoyne is class when he has the ball. Also, he has swapped roles several times from a half back/back pocket early, to a midfielder currently.

Re: For anyone interested in Burgoyne's detailed statistics...

One meaningful stat there is avg goals per game...

If he can add an extra goalkicker to our list every week then that would be a massive plus.

Re: For anyone interested in Burgoyne's detailed statistics...

stats dont prove anything really. I know he's a good player that can be great on his day. He's worth pick 9 and a fringe player.

I guess we know all this tho.

Love that stat too. We need more mids who kick goals. Burgoyne, Youngy, Changa and to a lesser extent Ellis in the same side would be brilliant...and there is apparently a bloke called Rioli who is ok around goals as well.

Re: For anyone interested in Burgoyne's detailed statistics...

Raw disposal stats mean nothing...otherwise Bowden and Kornes would be the two greatest players in history. Burgoynes career disposal rate is down due to the fact he spent two years playing at FF, and two years playing as a shut down defender before moving into the midfield. That and the fact that Port dont really play a high possession gameplan/

Burgoyne has a high rate of contested possesions because he wins it in close. He has a high rate of clearances because he can read the ruckman as good as anyone in the league (he IS as good as Judd at this). His modus operandi is to win the clearance, have a 25 metre run and bounce and kick long inside 50. He has led the league in disposal efficiency before (2006). Hes a goalkicker and has kicked multiple goals playing from the midfield many times. These are the stats that mean something.

Re: For anyone interested in Burgoyne's detailed statistics...

So his stats are probably a bit similar to Rioli's I am guessing.

Is there any stat for "X Factor?"

Burgoyne (fit) is a star. A genuine star.

Gee he would be good in our side...am drooling at the thought. Its not often you get to top up your side from the top and that is exactly what we would be doing. He is the perfect complement for our mids in terms of type.

I look at St Kilda and think they def payed a bit over the odds for Lovett. But then I admire them for targeting the sort of player they wanted and doing the deal they needed to do to get him - they know where they are at and what the opportunity means to get the type of player they need in their side.

9 + Brown is def over the odds for Burgoyne and am glad we didn't go that far but I just hope we can engineer a deal even if it is a little over the odds to get him over the line as these sort of opportunities don't come up often.

It's the "X" factor I like. Buddy has it. So does Cyril. Roughie can turn it on too. Hodge is a wee bit capable. And then there is Osborne who can do the unexpected. Young is likely to take a run and ping it from outside 50 for a team lifter.

Then there are the plain Janes...Mitchell, Sewell, Lewie, Changa who can rip the opposition a new one.

The opposition then has the task of tagging and shutting down all the trouble makers in the Hawks who can do the unexpected at any minute in a game.

The less one diamentional the side is the better it is. The more "X" factor the better I reckon.

Re: For anyone interested in Burgoyne's detailed statistics...

Lets remember too that he isn't in a great side and doesn't have anyone of decent calabre to feed him the ball. Many people say Gary Ablett wouldn't be as good if he didn't have the hardball winners like Selwood and Bartell feeding him the ball.

It's easy to judge from statistics, but with plenty of give from our hardball getters Burgoyne could easily have a break out season at Hawthorn.

Re: Burgoyne to Hawks?

That's a fantastic deal for us!
One disinterested player with a dodgy knee for a disillusioned player with a dodgy knee.

I no longer care. He's with us, he's not with us - I just don't care.

Williams has struggled to fit this season, patches in the middle, very little accuracy up forward, injury concerns. I'm more excited by the prospect of a Dowler, Roughead, Franklin forward line with a Rioli, Osborne crumbing option.

I think Willo is going a similar route to my Online namesake - will struggle to find a place in the upcoming side so makes the choice that it's time to go. Unfortunately for Boyle, his body couldn't hold up.

At Hawthorn, for next season, the Forward line is no place for those unable to give 100%.

Re: Burgoyne to Hawks?

Can someone start a thread about a thread about the Burgoyne deal, please?

I'm over it... this is stuffing up my productivity at work.

productivity at work???? ITS TRADE WEEK BABY.

Keep your phone off the hook and your computer homepage rotating between the hun, the age, the aussie, bfooty, and foxsports and your boss at bay.

Re: Burgoyne to Hawks?

9 + 26 ispaying too much.

Unless we pay 9 + 26 to get Jnr Burger + 3rd Round Pick = about fair.

Nothing new here though is there??

Like most other posters this time of the week - this is doing my head in...

Re: Burgoyne to Hawks?

TRADE NEWS: Burgoyne to Hawthorn. Picks 9 and 16 to Port Adelaide. Mark Williams and Pick 24 (from Port) to Essendon. Is this a good deal?
