Re: Burgoyne to Hawks?

As much as I am sick as anyone of this whole mess and would love to just sign off on it, no deal from me. Willo is worth more than 24-16 downgrade, and if wants to leave us then we should get (and keep) fair compensation. There's absolutely no reason to include what we get from Willo as a gift to Port, they can shove it you-know-where. As per my position the last 2-3 weeks...pick 9 and NOTHING else.

Re: Either way this Burgoyne trade will cost us a premiership.

disagree..jolly always wanted collingwood...look there is obviously a reason our footy department are chasing burgoyne so hard!! the guy if fit is good, and is just as good as any of our other midfielders. as silly as this may sound, ive watched a lot of port games cos of the whole supercoach thing, and believe me when this guy is going there are not many better than him!
yer we need a ruck, but if we dont have a ruck why not surround the guy who is rucking with the best midfield possible. with burgoyne we, i honestly believe have the best midfield in the comp with a greatr balance or hard in and under (mitchell, sewell, hodge, lewis) with outside players such as change young and burgs and hopefully people like muston come along.

we seem to be forgetting this footy department put together a premiership team two years ago, lets look at it this way, we have hardly lost any players from that team in these trades, yet added quality in burgoyne and gibson. i think pelchin and co are doing a great job and i couldnt be more excited for next season.

Re: Burgoyne to Hawks?

Through all of this mess, the only thing I can be sure of, is that I'm going to throw cups of my own urine on Choco as he walks up the race at the MCG next year.

Re: Either way this Burgoyne trade will cost us a premiership.

Sorry but what a stupid post! Jolly NEVER entertained the idea of coming to us, we weren't any hope of getting him, EVER!
What we do is strengthen our backline with Gibson, strengthen our mid/forward line with Burgoyne, have a long solid pre-season, and back our players to go out and play great footy, like we know they can!
We know were good enough when fully prepared!

Re: Burgoyne to Hawks?

love the way a lot of you blokes are willing to toss away willo with such a lack of consideration for what he has given to our club. All for a bloke that "yes" has talent.... But also has had serious knee issues for 12 months.

I watched our 08 gf win last night and i would like you all to go and do the same taking particular note of willo's efforts... His chasing, harassing and his accuracy. Through our darker years earlier this decade he was the one bloke that actually stodd up despite his size.

I dont think willo is untouchable by any means... But i'd expect him to get the same sort of loyalty from we true supporters that brownie received yesterday. It makes me sick to the guts that browny could get on here and see a page full of support... Yet willo could log on and for his 242 goals and 111 games we are saying "*hit yeah.. Flick willo for a draft pick...". Disgusts me.

well said...my sentiments exactly...bloody short memories!
Got us to the gf if u remember his games in the finals
some of our so called supporters arent worth a pinch of goat shit!

Re: Either way this Burgoyne trade will cost us a premiership.

I dont believe it will cost us a flag but I too would have liked Jolly or another Ruckman but things havent panned out that way.

There are some Rucks in the draft that sound promising, maybe if port get their head out of their arse we may have a chance of finalizing another trade that might give us a shot at a decent pick in the draft.

Re: Either way this Burgoyne trade will cost us a premiership.

We couldn't even talk to Jolly because we knew we didnt have pick 9 to bargain with. You dont think he would have been interested in playing for 450k a year or would even have listened to us? And we would have been able to offer Sydney an even better deal to Sydney and at least as good a premiership chance as Collingwood.

And to those of you who think we can win a flag with Taylor and Renouf in their current state are simply deluded. You have short memories if you can't remember the mayhem Ottens caused when he played on Renouf for 10 minutes in the 2008 GF. Once Robbie Campbell came back on we were able to stem the tide again. So yes I believe Robbie Campbell did make that much of a difference.

I will have faith that they have a replacement for Campbell in mind but god forbid our hopes rest on Taylor and Renouf staying injury free and suspension free for an entire season. I am just syaing the Burgoyne trade has expended all our commodies and resources such as time and draft picks so we havent been able to deal with the elephant in the corner of the room that is our ruck situation.

this is just what I'm saying things have not gone our way there was no way of knowing Jolly wanted to return home before we promised SB we woul;d get him. And then there was no way we were gonna know about Robbie Campbell retiring. And then Port has eaten away all our trade time to get another ruckman.

Trade week has just been an absolute disaster for us.

Re: Either way this Burgoyne trade will cost us a premiership.

Sorry but I completely disagree.

Firstly Jolly never wanted to come to Hawthorn as stated before.

And secondly and possibly most importantly; you cannot map out a year.
At the beginning of 2008 if you had asked anyone if Hawthorn would win the grandfinal, and win it without a key back, then no one would have believed you. Yet we won the grandfinal with Croad injured for most of the game.

We also won the grand final with our two key forwards not kicking bags.

AFL generally, and a premiership especially; is about a million different things clicking together at the right moment, players being in the zone/feeling right. Confidence being just right. And a big spoon of luck.

A trade will not make or break this club.

Re: Either way this Burgoyne trade will cost us a premiership.

I tend to agree with you CaptHodgey. I don't think some appreciate what a loss Robbie Campbell is and we have wasted far too much time on the SB trade. On a player we don't even need!

Re: Either way this Burgoyne trade will cost us a premiership.

Now it isn't Pelchen's fault that Robbie Campbell had to retire for he couldnt have seen this coming when he had SB in his sights many months ago. But still I believe this week's events will affect us very negatively when we reflect on it at the end of next year or even the year beyond that.

You are wrong on Robbie Campbells condition. A debilitating condition in the knee is not diagnosed over night. The hawks knew of Robbie's plight. They simply chose to ignore it.

Re: Burgoyne to Hawks?

Rohde just on 5AA.

Said that a trade has been all but completed, just filling out the paperwork

Couldnt give many details as they were in the middle of mediation due to confidentiality

Said that Port will recieve 9 & 16 and 4 clubs were involved. Many other factors but wouldnt name them or the clubs involved.

You think they should have pulled him out of 2008 and rested him/put him in for surgery? Sorry but I do not know enough of the situation to comment on that. Either way he is gone and I am sick and tired of having our asses handed to us every week in the ruck.

And wasting time on an extra midfielder when we should be doing something about it now.

Same thing happened last year when we knew croad would miss most of the season. Nothing was done and look what happened.

IUf you guys want to channel the memories of seasons past look at 2009 when making decisions not 2008 ffs.

Re: Burgoyne to Hawks?

TRADE NEWS: Burgoyne to Hawthorn. Picks 9 and 16 to Port Adelaide. Mark Williams and Pick 24 (from Port) to Essendon. Is this a good deal?

http://twitter.com/Whitey927

So Port get picks 9 & upgrade pick 24 to 16?

Doesn't make much sense given they wouldn't take pick 9 and a starting 22 player. Bugger all diff in my eyes.

Burgoyne deal done

Whitey TRADE NEWS: Burgoyne deal appears done. Jay Nash to Port is the new part of the complicated deal with Bombers to get another pick in the 30s

So, I wonder what the full details are.

Re: Burgoyne to Hawks?

Providing what is said is true and Williams has been offered a 3 year deal by the Bombers, he would be mad not to take it. As it stands, he would get nothing but a 1 year deal from the Hawks and it would probably be performance based.

Take the emotion out of it. If you were Willo, what you do? Guaranteed 600,000 - 700,000 (guessing there) over 3 years OR 250,000.

Take it Willo, good luck and thanks for the memories. Will never forget leaping out of my seat in the 3rd quarter in the grannie with THAT GOAL.

That was the moment that we knew that we had it. That will never change and that moment earned Willo a special place it Hawk history.

If he can now secure his future, even if it is with the dreaded Bombers and we happen to get a jet in Burgoyne as a pay off, DO IT.

Re: Either way this Burgoyne trade will cost us a premiership.

Trade week is not over yet, there is a chance we could pick up a ruckman it's just a matter of what we have to give up to get one.

After last years' "almost.. kinda.. maybe not" trade period I'm happy that we've got some business done this time around.

We'll make the best of the team we've got next year, get a good pre-season and some more game time into the young guys and we'll be fine.
