Analysis Conspiracy theories surrounding Geelong's list management and salary cap

I think we are about to see the very best version of Sam in 2025 and that is the type of footballer you can build a team around as 6ft'8 utilities are as rare as they come.
If he gets a good run at it next year, I can see him really coming good again. There were glimmers of that this season, even as he moved up the ground and embraced a different role.

Having said that, if his 2025 is roughly similar to his overall form over these last two seasons, it would be hard to see how he's indispensable for us heading into the future.

Massive year for him next season. Career-defining, I would say.

I have heard that Geelong's list management and salary cap are secretly propped up by the likes of George Soros, Bill Gates, Anthony Fauci and Mossad.

On the other hand, I may have too much time on my hands.

At the same age Sam has been a better player than his brother Tom, Sam is 2 years younger and we know more often than not talls can take time especially after some of the injuries and set backs he has had.

In 2 years time Sam will be top tier and ripping games to pieces. Wait and see.

Hope the wait is worth it.

I was excited by Sam's entry into the AFL, but he's tapered a little bit from there.

He was rag dolled by his older brother in '24, and by season's end Tom was the better player, although Sam did improve as the season went on.

I'm with goyoucatters .......an interesting year awaits Sam.

I still think he can be a very good player, but he'll need to harden up a tad.

From there the only question is whether he wants to go play with Tom or not.

I think sam has been much better much earlier in his career than Tom but the next couple of years will tell us a bit as Tom is taking off

Tom was a slower burn for sure, but he accelerated past Sam quite easily last season.

Sam fought his way back into the latter part of THAT game, but the ease with which Tom bullied him was a surprise, and from there Tom went from strength to strength.

I'm really hoping Sam re-discovers his best form, and find a little more ferocity within.

I'm not at all surprised that a professional ruck with two extra seasons on the clock bullied a key defender that played basically his first game there. I expected a lot worse and I think he found a bit of that ferocity in later matches.

I don't know why you would be surprised at that either.

It wasn't the position being played. They could've been anywhere on the ground.

It was simply the physicality. Tom went at him hard and Sam was intimidated by it.

Yep, he came back at Tom as the game went on and I've given him credit for that.

I'm just saying I hope Sam learned something from that experience and doesn't ever allow someone to intimidate him again.

Do you think Sam would be intimidated defending Tom as key forward? I think it's very different.

Looking at the way Sam played following that game i think it's very clear he learned a lot.

Yeah, I think he was stung by Tom's intimidation from the first bounce and played with a bit more intensity thereafter.

I hope he continues on that trajectory and re-discovers his best form.

All we can say so far is that SDK is besting Tom for same age each season. Maybe that will change in 2 years when SDK plays at the same age as TDK 2024. But TDK only "sped past him" as a 2 year older, mature tall. So it's not really any kind of burn on SDK unless in 2 years he performs worse.

Really does seem to coincide with the nasty facial injury he sustained a couple of years ago. He lost not only his touch, but certainly the confidence he was displaying in aerial duels.
As young people, they can feel bullet proof. And then one day you suffer a freak accident like that and it makes you think twice.

That's true.

Maybe Tom had some insight, some inside info on where Sam's head was at, and used that to physically 'attack' Sam, knowing he'd likely wilt in the moment.

Edit: I'm thinking we're a long way OT here 🤔

It's a good natured conversation with interesting insights, but you're right, I'm starting to sweat myself.

So um....hopefully SDK has a good year and earns a solid chunk of our salary cap so he can prove what an astute piece of list management it was in recruiting him.

(someone might have to help me with the conspiracy theory bit).

The conspiracy is that SDK is deliberately playing below his best so we pay him less and can therefore afford to lure Tom away from Carlton.

Simples.

As an older brother myself, that's all I took it as.

It's something that you can't really explain unless you've experienced it, but from the footy field to the pool table, the older brother tends to have the edge.

To everyone else you're just another footballer/average bloke....but in the little brother's mind, you're somebody that he's never beaten before at anything. I imagine it's quite the mental hurdle.

Anyway, I heard from a Richmond supporter that we're selling imported cigarettes out of an illegal tobacconist to finance the Costa centre, so that should keep us on topic.

Bro you said you wouldn't bring our family history onto the forum...but you're absolutely right.
